Keith and Romaine Locke welcome you to Villa Aurora. We bought the plot for this villa in 2005 and built the villa over the next couple of years. We visited frequently and got to know the Apokoronas well. Crete has an almost perfect climate and is pleasant at all times of the year. We would like to share this experience and hope that you enjoy as much as we do. Please make yourselves at home, relax and have a lovely holiday. HOUSE MANAGER/MAID SERVICE Your House Manager at Villa Aurora is Jimmy. Jimmy and his wife and family have been living locally for many years. The Maids will clean the villa twice a week (on your arrival day and then again during the middle of the week). They will change the linen once a week and the towels twice a week and will do general villa cleaning but she is not required to do washing up. The Maids will usually stop by after 10.00 hrs, except on your departure day when they may need access to the villa by 09.30 hrs (depending upon the arrival time of the next guests). They will start with the bedrooms – please make sure that all your suitcases are packed and placed neatly by the front door by this time. When they have finished with the bedrooms, they will then need to clean in the living room and kitchen area. Please be understanding of the fact that the villa needs to be spotless for the next guests (as it was for your arrival), and that their time is limited on a changeover day. Thank you for this. MAINTENANCE - POOL/OUTSIDE LIGHTS/GARDEN The swimming pool is maintained by Jimmy usually twice per week. For your safety there should be no diving, no running, no access to the pump room, and no ball games around the pool. Please be careful not to use glasses near the swimming pool, and to only use plastic ones. The pool has a depth of 1.10m running to a depth of 1.50m. The pool lights are on a timer. If there is a maintenance issue at Villa Aurora, Jimmy will take care of this. IN THE EVENT OF A PROBLEM WITH YOUR VILLA that is not related to the general area (electric, water etc): PLEASE CALL OUR HOUSE MANAGER Jimmy's PHONE NUMBER IS: (0030) 6942695175 NO SMOKING Due to safety reasons, and in consideration of future guests, please respect that there is no smoking in the villa. Smoking is allowed on the outside terraces and balconies that all have beautiful views so this should not be a problem. If you are going to smoke outside please make sure to use the ashtrays provided and not drop or leave ash or cigarette butts. Other than requesting that guests do not smoke inside the villa, we want everyone who comes to Villa Aurora to feel as if it is their home and to enjoy. You can buy barbeque coal at most supermarkets DOORS, WINDOWS AND SHUTTERS As the wind can pick up very suddenly on Crete, please could you make sure the doors and windows are secured and that the shutters are hooked back. We have provided wedges to fit into the windows and doors to prevent them from blowing shut. As the top lock can be difficult on the front door please only use the lower lock. SUN-BEDS AND UMBRELLAS Please make sure that you always put the umbrella down when you are not using it - the wind on Crete is very strong and can pick up very quickly – the umbrella will be broken and it can often end up being blown into the pool. The sun-beds can be used on any of the terraces. TOILETS Only toilet paper may be put down the toilets. Please make sure that absolutely nothing else goes down the toilets. WATER SUPPLY The water at Villa Aurora has a lower chemical content than you may be used to. It is advised that you do not drink it unless it has been boiled first. It is perfectly safe for brushing your teeth, washing salad, fruit etc. As you can imagine, water can be a rare commodity at times here on Crete, and the water supply can be cut off without notice for up to 20 days. Please be conscientious to preserve water. HOT WATER In consideration of the environment the hot water is heated by solar panel. Very little sun is needed to make the water hot, and in the summer it can be very hot – so please be careful. On the few rainy days we do experience at the start and end of the season, you may use the back-up immersion heater. The switch for the immersion heater is located on the fuse board at the top of the stairs on the left hand side behind the tapestry. Put the double switch on the right hand side at the end of the row in the “Up” position and the light will come on to show the water is heating. In approximately 30 minutes the water will be hot. PLEASE TURN THE SWITCH OFF BEFORE YOU BATH OR SHOWER (THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT). GATE Please ensure that you keep the gate closed at all times. The local sheep and goats will take every opportunity to get into the garden and very quickly eat everything in sight and leave a big “mess” behind! When leaving the villa please leave the keys in the Key Safe. BREAKAGES In case of breakages during your holiday, either replace with matching item or report damage on the Log provided. If you notice any shortfalls or have any suggestions for improvements please note these. Fell in love with this villa
Loved the property. Property manager was very responsive to our questions. Pool was very clean. Villa was great and view was beautiful. House manager was extremely helpful when the town’s power unexpectedly went out at 4am and we had to get out of the driveway gate to catch an airplane. Would like to come back some day.
A perfect place to stay!!
It is situated in a lovely part of Crete.
Has everything within the villa to enjoy your stay. The pool is just lovely.
We will be returning next year. We have family there and visit every year, have stayed in several, prefer this one.
Thank you for your positive comments - you would be very welcome to stay again at the Villa
An enjoyable break in great accommodation
We have stayed in this general location over a number of years and have always enjoyed the experience and this year was no exception. The accommodation is clean, fresh and well laid out. The three bedrooms are well sized and the kitchen and living spaces are more than adequate. The pool is lovely and a great size for everyone to enjoy. If you are hiring a car get one with good suspension as the final drive up to the house can be a little uneven though don't let this detract from the villa as it is in a great location for access to the beaches and countryside.
A very nice villa!!
Thank you for your Review and I am pleased you enjoyed your stay.
It is good news that the Dimos (council) has finally agreed to tarmac the drive and this is due to start later this year or early next.
It will be a great improvement and I hope all goes to plan.
Property in a remote but lovely location, with great views to the mountains and over the bay.
We really had an excellent holiday and would love to return.
Lovely Relaxing Holiday
We had a lovely and relaxing holiday in Crete staying at Villa Aurora. Location was a little more remote than we thought but the views were stunning and the villa was well equipped and comfortable. Pleased we had a suitable car for the approach road and when the temperatures hit 42' for a few days, a shaded parking area would have been useful. The attractive stonework of the villa though kept the property cool inside and the air conditioning was very efficient.
A wonderful relaxing holiday.
We had a lovely holiday at villa Aurora. It is a great location for exploring the local area.
Kokkino Chorio is a small traditional Cretan village. You can walk through the narrow streets of the village and think yourself in another era. By the village square is a Taverna serving a variety of traditional recipes for all tastes in a picturesque centre. There is a well-stocked mini-market called Voreinos run by Giorgos, who is very friendly and helpful. Further along the road is a Snack Bar serving Drinks, Breakfast and sandwiches etc. Opposite, is the The church of St Halambros and on the outskirts a glass blowing factory where you can watch traditional blown glass at the workshop. Alongside, in a pretty setting is To Yaladiko, an organic taverna with a pleasant atmosphere, wonderful views and serving traditional Greek dishes.
Above the village near Agios Giorgios Church you can visit the German war dugout but remember to take a torch through the underground bunker complex. The walk may be a little steep but the view is stunning from the high position.
