Wonderful apartment and location!
This apartment helped make our vacation truly wonderful! The greeter met us and was very friendly, spoke English, and had some great recommendations for places to go. We were a little worried about being outside the downtown area, but it turned out to be the best. Easy cab ride into town for main attractions, and a 5 minute walk to the beach, with tons of cafes. Also very close to a large mall, which has restaurants, food court, and a grocery store, to get basics to take back to the apartment. Also quiet in the evenings, when we just wanted to hang out. The building has a doorman, so it is very very safe. In fact, we felt safe everywhere we wandered, no issues. Would definitely stay here again!
Located between new skyscrapers and five-star hotels, we find the International Convention Center of Barcelona (CCIB), Jose Lluís Mateo and the emblematic triangular building the Forum, by the architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron.
Diagonal Mar, in which the longest avenue in the city meets the Mediterranean, is one of the most characteristic neighborhoods of Barcelona. The planners transformed what was once an industrial wasteland into a modern complex of luxury apartments, first-class hotels, office blocks, conference centers, a park designed by the star architect, a shopping center and a new beach. Just 20 minutes by metro from the center of the old city of Barcelona, one feels like in a completely different world.
To enjoy the nightlife, you can go to the city center by metro (or a taxi), or go to the well-known bars and clubs of the Vila Olímpica, along the coast. There are a lot of modern bars and restaurants in the mall, although these tend to be franchises and part of a chain. A decent restaurant within the commercial complex is the Basque Sagardi, on the third floor. The concept is based on a traditional Basque cider house, and guests are invited to serve their own cider from the oak barrels. For a more romantic atmosphere, you can try L'Escola, which gave the students of the cooking school the opportunity to show their talent. The service is friendly and the food represents very good value for money.
