What a great place to stay in Puako!
This place was the perfect getaway! Everything you need, really right at your fingertips. This was my 3rd stay in the area, 1st time in the flat above the general store. Was a little concerned about being in a higher density area, but have to say it worked out great and was really convenient! So nice to just run downstairs and grab what you need. Mary and the entire staff were super welcoming. Love the beach just across from the condo’s! Love that they have a brita and all the gear you need! Love that you can hear the waves!. Well Done!!
Thank you so much for your review. I am glad to hear the rental worked out well for you and that you enjoyed everything it has to offer. We would love to have you back for any future stays.
Amazing place to stay
Great place to stay to kick back and relax. Close to the best beaches and restaurants on the island. Friendly and helpful staff and a nicely stocked store below you. What more could you ask for. Hope to visit again some day.
Its a great place away from the hustle bustle of the big hotels and resorts and across the street fr
Its a go to must as its away from the regulator tourist traps. Large hotels, noise ect.easy access to surfing, swimming coves and beaches. Easy access to biking away from most heavy traffix areas of kona town. Great area for running. Well maintained, clean, comfortable apartment fully stocked kitchen, thoughtful amenities and unbelievably welcoming and supportive hosts to make your stay relaxing and enjoyable. There are also beach towel, coolers, snorkel and water shoes available.
Thank you so much for your review. We enjoyed having you and welcome you back anytime you are back in the area.

Lovely and would gladly stay again
This is a small apartment, a great, less expensive option for staying on the island. It was so nice to have beach items provided, like towels, chairs, snorkels and small coolers. Be careful to keep the lights as low as possible at night with all the screens closed to prevent (harmless) insects from coming in. The general store may seem expensive, but we found that the nearby (15 minutes) grocery stores were just as expensive. Get the baby bananas and macadamia nut ice cream! The nearby beautiful 69, Hapuna and Mauna Kea beaches were excellent for lounging and swimming. Kukio beach a little further south had tons of turtles! Lots of good dining options are in Waimea, but this apartment is not close to many good restaurants (though there are some in the nearby fishing town Kawaihae and the resorty Waikaloa).
Mary is a fabulous host that is available and communicative for a great stay. I hope to come back!
Thank you so much for your review and tips for upcoming guests. The cost of groceries, and even dining out, can be a sticker shock for visitors. Most items, such as cereal etc, have to be shipped to the island dramatically increasing the cost to shoppers. We loved having you and welcome you back anytime.

Charming stay, great hospitality!
My boyfriend and I came for a short 5 days stay after Thanksgiving. This unit is so conveniently located, away from the touristy Kona areas, but still very accessible to beaches, views and everything you wanted to do on the big island.
I was really impressed with Mary's hospitality, she owns and manages the store downstairs, it is super convenient. The unit is ultra clean, comfortable and well stocked with everything you could think of! We cooked two meals with fresh fish caught right at the boats, it was wonderful.
Access to the beach is steps away, a private one almost feels like, and within 1.2m walk, you get to experience two of the best beaches on the island. It really can't be beat! I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. Thanks Mary!
We really loved the central location of this place, we loved being right across from the beach too! Great neighborhood. You can take guided snorkeling excursions right off the Puako Boat Launch. I also appreciated being away from the hustle and bustle of Kona. This area is super laid back. Be sure to eat a few meals at Kohola Burger & Taco... amazing burgers, fish tacos, orange dreams and dole pineapple whip!
Dating back to ancient times, Puako was a fishing village that, until the 1950s, was accessible only by boat or by the Ala Kaha Kai (the ancient “shoreline trail” that is now partially restored as a National Historic Trail). One of Hawaii’s largest petroglyph fields is nearby.
Still a small beach community—fewer than 200 homes along a single road just 2 ½ miles long—Puako is blessed with a consistently sunny and gentle climate. An eclectic mix of residents, snowbirds and vacationers, the kids you see on bikes and the surfers at Paniau probably live here. As you cross paths with them, stop and “talk story” at the General Store, an informal community center as well as a convenient resource for supplies. Life in Puako—year-round and short-term—is relaxed, very relaxed, but never boring.
Rimmed by a protected marine preserve, the Puako reef offers endless sights for snorkeling, SCUBA diving, kayaking, swimming and tide pool wading. Join the “honu” (protected sea turtles—please enjoy them at a safe distance) for a swim or follow their lead and bask in the sun nearby. You’ll have a great vantage point for watching the wintertime display of whales and their young during their calving time in our warm waters.
If all this isn’t exciting enough, you can walk to the Mauna Lani or Fairmont Orchid Hotels for a sunset beverage, or visit the nearby Shops at Mauna Lani or the King’s Shops and Queen’s Marketplace just down the highway for shopping and a variety of restaurants and galleries. On the way upcountry to Waimea, home of Parker Ranch and the “paniolos” (cowboys), a stop at Kawaihae Harbor offers additional restaurants, galleries, and a fish market. Golfers have numerous options, and adventurers may head for the summit of Mauna Kea, the active volcano Kilauea or a trip to the Zipline in Kapa’au.
