Romantic house with beautiful view on the baroque city of Modica
- english, french, spanish, italian
I like traveling, painting (you can see some of my paintings in the house) and cooking. What I love of Sicily are its vivid colors, rural life, welcoming people and -last but not least- delicious specialties, and I would like that visitors who come to Modica would feel and experience the best out of this beautiful baroque gem.

Lovely apartment with breathtaking view
We have just returned from our first holiday to Sicily and spent the second week in this studio apartment in the middle of the maze of streets that comprises the old part of the town - Modica Alta. Although initially a little hard to locate, we enjoyed our stay in this fascinating area and the flights of steps to and from the lower part of the town certainly kept us fit! The apartment itself has been sympathetically restored and had everything we needed. The view from the large balcony is fantastic! We loved our breakfasts overlooking the old town and at eye level with the spire of the Duomo. Olivia was very helpful, providing lots of information about the area both by email and in the apartment itself. The use of a door code made checking in particularly easy as we did not need to commit to a particular time of arrival. We really enyoyed exploring Modica and the many places of interest nearby and have many fond memories of our stay. Thanks Olivia - we miss your place already!
The main attraction of this property is the balcony with the stunning view which we used and enjoyed every day. We would have rated the property higher but there were some issues with cleanliness; crockery and other items in the kitchen were not clean. I appreciate that this was not the owner’s direct responsibility but it wasn’t a great start. The studio is as shown in the photographs but a little tired and in need of some tlc.
Check in was easy with the code provided but parking close to the property was difficult, not only on arrival but most days.It is correct that there is free parking on surrounding roads but finding a space is not always easy. We also found the location a little inconvenient; we are both fit, active walkers but the number of steps involved going to and from town deterred us from eating out. That said, it meant we dined out on the terrace and enjoyed the gorgeous view.
Modica is a good base for exploring the many attractions of the area.
Hard to find on our first day, but got the hang of it pretty quickly. Lots of steps from the base but there is a gentler way up! However once there it is a little gem, right in the heart, get a real understanding of how people live. The views from window and balcony/terrace are stunning and we spent ages just sitting out - lots to look at. Having a washing machine was a real bonus as very hot when we stayed. House has air con, but accommodation stays cool and rarely had to use. Plenty of free parking about 5 minutes from house. Modica is outstanding. Would have been a five but need to be physically fit to get there which wasn't a problem for us, fabulous stay, would recommend.
Light and bright with wonderful views from the balcony
Easy assess, very comfortable and a great place to stay.
superb setting, everything you need, lovelly terrace for sitting out
Really enjoyed our stay, everything you need close by, lovelly place to relax. Locals very friendly
Beautiful quiet spot
We had a code to enter the house and never met the owner. We loved Modica and this was a great place to stay largely because of it's quiet situation and the terrace. Not far from the bus station but be prepared for steep walks up and down. The area is like a kasbah and we were always getting lost but didn't mind. The kitchen is small and could do with a chopping knife and bedroom is a platform up a little staircase. I would have preferred a bed that wasn't so low down. All in all though we enjoyed our stay and would stay there again if we come back to Modica.
Modica Alta is a very traditional and pictoresque district inhabitated by very nice local people. Typical food shops are close to the house (try the special 'cannoli alla ricotta'), a very good restaurant at a few minutes from the house with nice tables outside, a nice square with a well equipped supermarket also reachable in a few minutes walking. You can also find many interesting churches, small typical streets and some art shops.
