Loved this place!
This was the perfect place for me while visiting Maui. I loved being in Upcountry and surrounded by beautiful foliage and the sounds of nature. There are roosters galore (incredibly beautiful) but they love to proclaim their joy for life so if you are sensitive to sound...bring earplugs for a restful sleep. The bed is comfortable and the kitchen was very easy to function in. The bathroom is roomy and the shower has great water pressure . There are plenty of windows so there is always a welcomed breeze. The staff are very kind and courteous.
The road up and down is full of twists and turns, but you go slow and enjoy the views along the way while avoiding a rooster or two on the road. It only takes about 4 minutes from the cottage to get to Makawao town which is very cute and fun to walk around and then from there it's a relative easy journey to get to where ever else you want to go. After long days out and about having fun, coming back to the cottage was the perfect place to recharge and rest. I highly recommend this cottage!!!
Comfortable and charming upcountry cottage
A wonderful find and excellent value. A perfect place to get away to the fresh air and tranquility of the upcountry. The surrounding gardens are a delight to wander through. The spa is at your doorstep, and there are so many exquisite spa treatments to chose from. I would keep returning if only to experience them all!
Simple Upcountry Getaway
We loved the quiet at night, the view of the stars and the easy low-key feeling of being here. The staff was helpful and non-intrusive. Property is lovely. NOT your typical tourist vacation. If you want to get away from the hustle of Lahaina, this is it!
Easy drive on a winding road into Makawao town (5 min), Paia (15 min)and Baldwin beach, as well as to explore upcountry beauty.
Hosts were very kind to leave fresh fruit and ground coffee. Welcoming feeling!
*Would have been nice to have a coffee grinder, but was fine, I am a coffee snob, so that's me.
King size bed is two smaller mattresses put together, creating a little divet in the middle of the bed, having us effectively sleep on separate beds, minor issue but worth the mention.
We are both massage therapists, and received spa services, which were wonderful!
Was perfect for us on our first visit to Maui!
Clean, has all the amenities needed for our stay. Staff very helpful and friendly.
Serene and beautiful upcountry paradise
We very much enjoyed our stay in the Makena Cottage! It has a perfect mix of cozy simplicity and comfort. We woke up to morning rains clearing for walks through the beautiful gardens before heading out on each day's adventures. And we wholeheartedly support the Ho'omana mission of teaching and practicing the healing arts of Hawaii. Mahalo!
Good upcountry lodging
The Makena cottage was as depicted and desribed. It was clean and inviting upon arrival. The provisions provided, coffee, fruit, yogurt were abundant and thoughtful. The surroundings are quiet and private. We enjoyed Lomi Lomi massage spa services while there, which was great. The spa is a little gem. The grounds of the property could use some TLC. All of the components are there just needs neatening and design. I would definitely return.
Located Close to Makawao Forest Reserve, Pi'iholo Ranch and Pi'iholo Zipline.
