About this property

Waterfront Bliss in Bath

‘I want my house open to sun and wind and the voice of the sea and light, light... everywhere!' This open-concept restoration of a 100 year old Saltbox turns your life toward light, water and a way of life to which you will want to return again and again. A dock awaits your own boat which can whisk you to an island for a picnic or to Boothbay for shopping. A yard leading to the water beckons you (and your dog?) to play. A pass to Reid State Park (included) on nearby Georgetown Island will find you basking on a sunny beach or walking trails.

Hop in the car and you are shopping in Old Port, Freeport or Camden--or hiking the Camden Hills. On a rainy day check out the Wyeths in Rockland or the Maritime Museum in Bath. Restaurants abound: lobster on the dock at Five Islands, steamers on the deck of the Kennebec Tavern, jazz on Friday nights at Solo Bistro on Front Street, gourmet meals at the Old Meeting House on Georgetown Island.

This home proclaims Maine: its artists decorate the walls, its potters' lamps light every room, its furniture makers invite you to rock with a book in hand or sunbathe on the deck or sleep in the peace of Maine's cool nights (with the free standing gas stove to add warmth and charm). Upstairs the master bed has a queen bed and single futon, the second bed a double.

In the study on the main floor is a pull-out single; the living room couch pulls out to a double bed. The bathroom is large with a sink from the potter in Georgetown.

All the amenities - including high speed internet and fax--mean you can be as connected as you wish or as withdrawn as you can manage.

Only 40 minutes from Portland airport or two hours from Boston, imagine commuting to your family for weekends if you must... or imagine a summer open to the sun and wind and sea and light, light everywhere!

Immaculate and incredibly well stocked and organized. Everything about this place is easy to negotiate. Kitchen well stocked and supplied and items where you would expect. Back up supplies like towels, paper goods and linens abundant. Beds good for rental property and very pretty view. Highly recommend.

Always enjoyable.
We have stayed in Cynthia's home many times and always feel at home, but still on vacation! It is bright and clean and so Maine! Being close to Bath is a real plus. Cannot say enough good things about this property.

All of the Comforts in a Great Location
This is our second stay in this lovely cottage on the river. Once again we were pleased with the cleanliness and the highly artistic atmosphere of the cottage. Everything we could possibly ask for was supplied down to the detail. We love the comfort of of the plush couches, chairs and excellent beds. The original art, local ceramic dish ware and other details make this cottage a special haven for us. The location in this friendly neighborhood gives us a beautiful view with the advantage of easy access to the downtown shops, local restaurants and an easy drive to area beaches and parks. On this visit we even caught a wonderful session of Irish music at the local pub. Thank you again for a much needed escape to our happy place!

Cozy and quiet cottage with lovely river views
I, my husband, adult son, and dog had a wonderful 10 day stay at “Withdrawn on the Kennebec” in early June. The location was perfect for us (near our daughter and her family). Cynthia’s house is bright, inviting and comfortable, and we found everything we needed. The enclosed front garden and back deck, as well as the large backyard (not enclosed) and river view were enjoyed by all. There’s also a lower covered deck, a pleasant refuge in the rain. Cynthia provided clear instructions, contact numbers, and suggestions for things to do, places to go. One note - the stairs are somewhat steep, the basement steps are a little treacherous, and there is a spot on each staircase where the ceiling is quite low with no warning (such as “watch your head”). My spouse and son had to remember to duck - or else conk their heads. We (including our dog!) loved Cynthia’s home and are looking forward to staying there again.

I spent my working life as a Presbyterian minister in Wooster, Ohio, Chicago, Illinois, Princeton, New Jersey and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I retired in October of 2019 after 45 years. Since July 2020, when the pandemic forced me to cancel all summer and fall reservations, I have been living in Bath. I wake every morning to the ever-changing Kennebec River!

I loved ministry but I also love Maine. I first started coming up in the 80s. When I arrive in my cottage, I am purely happy and awash with gratitude.

Why they chose this property

My first cottage was on Georgetown Island in Bay Point, looking over to Ft. Popham. I was where the Kennebec opened onto the ocean. I loved it but had a brackish well, overboard discharge and only a woodstove for heat. If I were to retire full-time in Maine, I knew I wanted to be in the same area but with city water and sewer! My saltbox in Bath is the best of both worlds. I am still on the Kennebec with easy access to amenities.

What makes this property unique

I truly loved the light, the simplicity, the location and the neighborhood on a dead end street in Bath. It is so easy to explore the coast, enjoy a night in Portland, hike the Camden Hills or just read a book on my deck and listen for the fish to jump. It is my home and I hope you feel it is your home for the time of your stay.
