Perfect place for a large family on Ironman weekend.
Renting was easy and communication with owner was great.
Expectations not met
Rented houses for a family vacation. Asked the property manager before final payment about the "private beach" that was listed as it could not be seen in the pictures. I was told it was to the right of the pier. (there is a pile of rocks next to the neighbors pier with a small patch of sand 4 X 3 at low tide - no way to get to it 4 foot down from bulkhead) clearly that could not be the private beach. I asked the property manager a second time and her reply was that they may have gotten a lot of rain. I was not happy as this was one of the main reasons I rented these houses. After 48 hours of being at the houses, I was told that the owners would let us leave and refund our $$ for the unused days. Really? And where would an entire 3 generation family go at the last minute? And how much money would we have to pay if we could find a house on the River? The property manager also said that the neighbors were nice enough to say we could use their beach. We decided to stay because of the neighbor offer and the hassle of packing and finding a new place. Other discrepancies / issues were as follows: description of the houses and their amenities did not match the pictures...there were more beds placed in both houses which took room out of the one bedroom - 3 sets of bunk beds where there were originally 2 twin beds - no room to move for 2 kids; office area in Clubhouse was replaced with a bed - for someone who was anticipating utilizing that area, it was disappointing; table for puzzles as described in picture, was nonexistent; the DVD player in Farmhouse was broken - found that out the last night when we wanted to watch a movie; bottom screen of door on Farmhouse was not there when we got there and not there when we left even though we reported it along with a broken bench on the picnic table when we arrived; the bench was fixed the next day; had to inquire about WiFi password as it was not where the write up said it was. What we found out was that the neighbor was the original owner and sold the houses about a year ago. They also rented the houses. I don't believe anything was updated when the new owner began renting, so everything is under the previous owner. I feel that there were so many discrepancies that the new owner listing on VRBO should be required to fix the listing before being able to rent again. I do want to say that the neighbors and the location were terrific!
We are very sorry that your expectations were not met. Our little beach is usually accessible but may have been small during this period due to high tide and much rain. It is true that our beds were upgraded this season and this upgrade is not reflected in the description. Your comments are appreciated and we have changed the description as advised for the beach as well as the bedrooms.
We always aim to provide a good experience to all our guests. Our offer of a refund was not intended in any way to suggest that it was a solution but rather an offer in good faith considering your displeasure. I hope that you and your family nevertheless made some good Eastern Shore memories.
Perfect family getaway
Renting the club house and Farmhouse gave us plenty of room for a family getaway with our adult children and new grandson. There were beautiful spaces to gather while at the same time allowing enough room to have down time or a quiet place for the baby to nap. There were amazing sunrises and sunsets right from the pier. Trish was wonderful and so responsive to any questions. We were also thrilled to meet Sherman, the kind and helpful neighbor. Thank you for providing the spot for our family memories.
Eastern Shore Retreat
This is the second time we have stayed at this property for an Ironman event. Perfect location for us and right on the water. It gives us the peace and quiet we like. Will be staying there again.
Real life dream
Words can’t adequately describe how perfect everything was; The house, the location, the amenities and the river were all more than I could have hoped for to celebrate Memorial Day weekend. Our family of 4 had an over abundance of comfy space to be together and relax after spending the day exploring and paddling the ChopTank. Many many thanks to Trish and the Thomson’s who made our stay effortless and convenient. This will become our go-to place for the future
The most beautiful sunsets!!
This place was great! The farmhouse and clubhouse (dance hall) were the perfect combination to house our family for the weekend. We were in town to attend a reunion of our extended family, and it was convenient to everywhere. Our grandkids had a great time and even extended an invite to "Mr. Townsend" to come to a 6th birthday party!
If I HAD to get picky, I'd say a not-so-great aspect was the stove in the clubhouse. It didn't have enough large burners to cook for a group our size. That being said, we should have just made breakfast in the farmhouse.....that stove would have served fine.
DEFINITELY make sure you sit on the dock for the sunset........ALL of the sunset!! It's among the most beautiful I've ever seen anywhere.
Should the occasion arise again, we'll be back!
Fishing and crabbing are available in the Choptank River from the property's dock, or from your own boat. Golf is available at many lovely public courses including Hyatt Chesapeake Resort and Clearview at Horn's Point as well as two courses in Easton and one in St. Michaels.
There are many restaurants in the surrounding area including: Cambridge 10 minutes, Trappe 20 minutes, Easton 25-30 minutes, Oxford and St. Michaels 40-45 minutes that offer a complete range of choices. Exploring these charming towns is possible by car or by bicycle. Don't miss the World Famous Waterfowl Festival weekend in Easton--2nd weekend in November. (Check Dates). The Ward Museum in Salisbury is of interest to many. Blackwater Wildlife Refuge is 16 miles away. Offers stunning views of waterfowl, bald eagles, heron and etc.
