Perfect Cottage to visit south Ireland

We enjoyed our stay very much. It is a nice cottage, from where we could visit a lot of lovely places in the south-west of Ireland.

Country Haven

We spent 5 days exploring the county of my grandfather's birth. The cottage is in a rural setting but within 20/30 mins of several larger towns with all necessary services. The cottage is updated and very comfortable.

Best vacation ever

We loved this rural Irish cottage. It's a few minutes from the farm where my grandmother was born, and allowed us to really experience the feel of this beautiful area while tracing my roots - something you can't get when staying in a hotel. We were immersed in the culture, and the owner couldn't have been kinder. Clean, cozy and comfortable. Memorable!

Exactly what we were looking for!

Beautiful, restored cottage nestled in idyllic, pastoral surroundings. The place is only a 3-minute walk from established, marked hiking paths. There's a peace to the land, reinforced by the occasional lowing of livestock and imperturbable birdsong, rather than broken by it. If you're looking for a luxury hotel room, this isn't the place for you, but if you're looking for calm and a central location from which to explore Ireland, this is definitely an opportunity not to be missed.

Adorable cottage in a Central Location

We had a wonderful time staying at this cottage. It was clean and had everything we needed. It is centrally located for day trips to Cork, Cobh, Middlebury, Killarney, The Ring of Kerry and we visited the Cliffs of Moher after we checked out on our way back to Dublin. I would suggest finding it in the daylight for your first night because there are some narrow country roads to get there. But overall it is a fantastic spot that allows you to see the charming and peaceful countryside of Ireland.

Not bad, but overpriced

The house is a very nice house with everything one needs, but it is not well cared for. It was cleaned well, yet there were simply signs that is has been standing for a while since it was cleaned, like lots of spider webs/spiders. The outside furniture was not really usable. Everything was there, everything worked, but it was simply a little neglected and therefore overpriced.

Country property with good sized rooms. Very rural. Car necessary.

In need of running repairs here and there.( Kitchen tap) Kitchen could be a little better equipped.(Toaster very poor, as was ironing board~) We were unable to get good reception for the TV one day when the weather was wet. Lack of WiFi made life a bit difficult as we had an ill relative at home.

Alles notwendige vorhanden, sehr netter Vermieter.

Charming home nestled in the Irish countryside

Enjoyed our stay at this cute cottage. A rural and very peaceful setting. We were excited to come back to our home away from home each day. The house is equipped with everything one needs for every day living. Wonderful spacious kitchen/living /dining area. The main bedroom is a wonderfully bright spacious room with views from two charming windows . The kitchen window overlooks a private garden. Lots of parking on the property. Conveniently located for touring Cork and Kerry counties.

About the host

Hosted by Michael O Donoghue

Host profile image
I am a farmer. This cottage belonged to my mother's family and I bought it in 1993. In 2006, I renovated it completely and it has been a holiday letting since then. I enjoy welcoming guests from all over the world.

Why they chose this property

This cottage belonged to my family for at least 100 years. Three generations of my family have owned this cottage and the farm. My grandfather bought this cottage in the early 1900's and 3 generations of my family have farmed on the land here. I then acquired the farm and renovated the cottage in 2006. It previously had a thatched cottage. It is typical of many of the local cottages that were built in this area at this time.

What makes this property unique

Location is the best feature. It is ideal for a quite retreat or for touring the South West of Ireland. Set just 1km off the N72 and about half-way between Mallow and Killarney.
It is set in a country location, in a farming community with views of the surrounding countryside and mountains. ( Clara mountains)
