A cozy pet friendly cottage set on a very private portion of the Esopus creek
About Letitia fernandes
I am a nurse, who loves animals, traveling, vintage items, ethnographic arts and crafts and food. We love dogs and have fostered many pups before they found their forever homes. We now have three dogs of our own. We love traveling and have done the four day Inca trail to Machu Picchu in Peru, climbed to the Cotopaxi volcano and travelled in the Amazon in Ecuador, participated in the carnival in Brazil, seen the Mona Lisa at the the Louvre , experienced the London eye, visited the wet markets in Hong Kong and in 2015 we visited the Thar desert and cruised the backwaters in Kerala. No fancy hotels for us as we prefer hostels and yes VRBO.
Letitia fernandes purchased this Cottage in 2010
Why Letitia fernandes chose Saugerties
After a busy work week in the city, we always want to get a way for the weekend, so my husband and I bought a home in Saugerties. The cottage is located 1 hr 45 mins from NYC in quaint Saugerties. The cottage is simple, warm and welcoming, sits on a dead end road, where the sound of the wind, occasional fish jumping or the chugging train just as easily transports you to a french countryside.
What makes this Cottage unique
We are on the water, what more can I say. We are also not more than 20-30 mins drive away from Rhinebeck, Woodstock, Kingston and downtown Saugerties. We are committed to an inclusive and diverse environment. So please know you will be welcome at our home no matter your breed, creed, religion, race, color, weight, national origin, gender, disability, marital status, sexual identity or orientation.

Sweet spot on the Esopus
My friends and I had a great time at Letitia’s charming house on the Esopus Creek. The place was perfect for a weekend of swimming, kayaking, and cooking and Letitia was a great host!
Quietude on Esopus Creek
We had a very relaxing 4 nights with our dog. She loved the yard and jumping in the creek. I spent hours on my paddle board, while my husband and the dog made use of the tandem kayak available.
The cottage was very clean and tidy, with just about anything one could need, from extra toothbrushes and wonderful soaps to dog towels! The owner even left a local brew chillin' in the fridge for us!
Queen bed was quite comfy, and the lovely cotton sheets are a nice touch. Communication with Letitia was stellar! Very clear instructions for check in and check out as well as information on the area.
The train did come through several times a day, but with the new windows in the cottage, we really weren't bothered by it.
We will definitely consider Chez Rive Gauche next year!
Lovely cottage on Esopus Creek - perfect for canoeing or kayaking. Very pet friendly. Close to fabulous hiking trails along the Hudson River and the Catskill Animal Sanctuary. Convenient to stores and restaurants!
A charming stay!
Coziness in the Catskills
A very spontaneous weekend stay at Chezriveguache in December (lucky that it wasnt booked out the same time). It is a very cozy cottage rental tucked in the Catskill mountains on the Easopus creek. The hosts have made sure thier guests have everything they might require while away from their homes. From a fully equipped kitchen, to small dispensary needs in the bathroom to kayaks/canoe for summer. It is very clear that they have a piece of their heart in the cottage. Their aesthetic sense is great and as an artist myself, I could pay attention to every little decor and could admire for hours. It is so close from NYC/JC/BK that you might want to check the next availability right now. Very quick in responding, very considerate of your requirements and very very friendly humans. Because it is on the water, you could have a dream summer getaway with grilling on the deck, lazying under the sun on the grass and go kayaking/canoeing for no extra charge. Very much pet friendly, bring your babies along. Enjoy the cottage to yourself and take back happy memories.
Nice comfortable house
The house was nice, warm and clean. Two small bedrooms, a good size, nice kitchen and dinning area with a big living room. The view of the river was very nice. The surrounding Neighborhood was not the nicest however okay. Across the street (about 150 feet) was train tracks. Big freight trains, (about 100 cars long) would come through ever hour, day and night.
I do apologize for the location of my home and while I cannot move the home nor the train, I have mentioned about the train and location in my listing. In addition when you requested to book I informed you of the train and if it was going to be a disturbance then our home would not be the right fit for you. I also reminded you to please read the entire listing and that my home is a true reflection of my listing.
We engage with our guests and provide our contact info to ensure all details are clearly stated and the experience very personal. And all the messages to me and instagram stories from your end during your stay say that you had a nice time especially the messages which mentioned that “we are loving this space” and “we will come back”.
The location of the cottage is on the creek, and the front of the house, across the street is a train track. A goods train passes by on occassion and so far has not been a disturbance to either us or our guests. But it is something to consider if you are a light sleeper
Some say the sound of the train is calming, some might not like it, but if you are a light sleeper, or don't like any kind of noise, ChezRiveGauche might not be the place for you.
We also have neighbors.
We are also 20-30 mins drive away from Kingston, Rhinebeck , Downtown Saugerties and Woodstock. There are great restaurants, hikes, history, flea markets, farmers markets that is if you ever want to leave the cottage.
