About Jason Matthews
Jason grew up spending summer vacations at Lewes beach and we now enjoy spending our own vacations here with our boys.
Jason Matthews purchased this House in 2006
Why Jason Matthews chose Lewes
We enjoy the charm of Lewes and the relaxed feel it offers for low-key family time at the beach and in the community, while also offering other amenities and forms of entertainment a short distance away.
What makes this House unique
This property has been in Jason's family for many years and when we designed and rebuilt the current home several years ago, we did so with families in mind, making it a place where extended family could gather and relax together as well as providing space for quiet respites. It has proved to serve us well in this regard and it's proximity to the beach and biking on Bay Ave are a huge bonus with our children.

Our entire family enjoyed staying in this spacious home. We had a great week in Lewes!
We has another terrific experience at this property and in Lewes. For my money, this is better than any resort. We hope to be able to come back.
Week in Lewes
We arrived the day the heat index was well over 100 degrees. The main floor was comfortable but the upstairs was 82 degrees. We contacted the owner and then VRBO. Accommodations were made to help us through the heat waveby giving us access to a main floor bedroom. We found it curious that it would not be accessible during rentals? The bay was a short walk and the beach a quick ride to the state park. The kitchen equipment was somewhat lacking....no blender, 2 wine glasses and proper lids for stove top cooking. For a house of this size and price, I was surprised by the lack of kitchen supplies, no beach chairs or umbrella and while the house has lots of decking...there was no furniture on 2 of the 3 decks. It was a good location but not one I will rent again.
Location close to beach. Perfect for families with young children and seniors alike. Close to downtown Lewis and Rehobeth. It was advertised as having 3 tv's but only 1 tv worked. With young children and an incapacitated senior , that was a disappointment.
Great place to stay and very responsive owner
Our stayed was slightly marred by the AC on the first floor not working properly. This meant that the house was quite a bit warmer than we would have liked. I contacted the owner and he got back to me quickly and was able to schedule someone to come out quickly to work on it. The AC worked well for the rest of that day and the following day, but then back to being warm again. Once again the owner was quick to respond and get the AC repair shop back out to fix the problem, which they did.
While this wasn't ideal, stuff breaks and that's life. The good news is that the owner was quick to respond and get a resolution to the problem. It also wasn't the owner's fault that the first fix didn't work and was more a reflection on the AC repair shop.
Other than that the stay was great!
another great long weekend
this was our third year renting this house and it's been great for our group of 10. proximity to the beach is awesome - no problem coming back for snacks and bathroom breaks - and there's plenty of space for us.
The house is located on Camden Ave which is a side street off of Cedar Ave which runs the length of Lewes Beach. The beach (which is an easy 2 min walk) is more or less 'private' to those staying on Lewes beach as the closest public parking area is over 1 mile away. Also, the beach is large and great for kids as the waves from the Delaware Bay are much smaller than the Atlantic Ocean.
Downtown Historic Lewes:
Second Street has unique, charming shops and a variety of restaurants to choose from. The downtown area also includes historic landmarks, waterfront access, museums, parks, and community events.
Options for biking abound; from a leisurely ride down Bay Ave to more long-distance rides on the bike paths that connect Lewes, Reboboth and Cape Henlopen State Park. Fishing opportunities are plentiful as well. You can surf-fish right off Lewes beach anytime in the off season and during designated hours in the summer. Further, there are piers, inlets, and charter fishing opportunities all within 1-2 miles of the house. For water sports, kayak and paddle board rentals are available through outfitters in Lewes. Cape Henlopen State Park is nearby as well, accessible by bike or car. It offers numerous outdoor activities of its own, including ocean access, hiking, frisbee golf, basketball, playgrounds, and observation towers and other landmarks from WWII.
Rehoboth Beach is a short drive away and offers the traditional boardwalk activities & excitement. Rehoboth is also home to many popular outlet retailers, providing entertainment for the avid or recreational shopper.
