About George or Pat Smith
We met while climbing and skiing with The Mountaineers. Since we love to hike, climb, ski, kayak, watch wildlife, study wildflowers, gather mushrooms, and just watch the trees grow, we enjoy Sky River Chalet every season of the year!
George or Pat Smith purchased this Chalet in 2000
Why George or Pat Smith chose Skykomish
With world class hiking, whitewater, rock climbing and skiing in five separate wilderness areas within a 15 mile radius only 1 1/2 hours from Seattle who can beat it? Did I mention the waterfalls, old growth forest, and the fantastic blooms of wildflowers and mushrooms?
What makes this Chalet unique
The magnificent 18 foot high granite fireplace, the beautiful woodwork, the unique décor, the huge basement game room with its own fireplace and Sauna, the river bank Hot Tub, the high balconies overlooking the Tye River and Beckler Peak, and the number of bedrooms and separate sleeping areas make Sky River Chalet an unforgettable experience winter or summer. In addition, since we are dedicated naturalists ourselves, we've got a fabulous natural history library of books covering the native fauna and flora of the Pacific Northwest, and our cabin is a veritable 'Natural History Museum' with dozens of pictures and mounted specimens to help our guests better understand and appreciate the birds and mammals that live in the Cascades. Staying here is truly like spending 'a Night at the Museum'.

We had a fantastic stay at this cabin! The property was extremely clean and well maintained! We had no issues with any appliance and we had a great time using the bbq, hot tub, ping pong table, and fire pit. The living room is a great size and extremely comfortable! We walked down to the river and enjoyed the outdoors for awhile. We definitely want to come back!
Perfect Family Get Away!
My husband and I stayed here for our 20 th wedding anniversary, along with our family! There was a lot of us... and it was very spacious.
What we appreciated right away was, how comfortable and cozy it was! This isn’t a “ stuffy “ cabin. It’s perfect for families, and I hope we get to chance to visit again! P. S., I caught my first fish 🎣 ever.... right in front of the cabin... magical!
Great weekend in the woods
My wife and I (and our pup) had a great weekend at the Sky River Chalet. The cabin looked even better in person than it did in the photos, and we loved sipping coffee and enjoying the wonderful view looking out to the river. We would definitely stay here again!
We had a four guys who stayed here while working in the area. They each had their own bedrooms and loved having so much space. There is a ping pong table and huge video library in the basement that they really enjoyed after work in the evenings. Beautiful location right on the river with great fishing! This cabin (house) had all the amenities they needed for their stay. Thank you for hosting us!
Very nice and worth the money.
House was very clean. Our bed was very firm - the way we like it. The kitchen was well stocked with tools and cutlery, nothing was lacking. Sharing the hot tub with our neighbors could have gotten complicated but we weren't planning to use it anyway. Parking accommodated our car and van when done with care to leave room for the neighbor's two cars. The area was very quite. I appreciate the large lower deck and smaller deck off the second floor. Having the furnace in the bedroom could be problematic but since the weather was nice we didn't need heat or AC.
Charming for All Ages to Enjoy
The Sky River Chalet provided a great experience for my family’s summer gathering. We loved the wildlife - chipmunks and birds- right outside on the back deck. The home is beautifully set in the wonderful PNW landscape and the home itself provides a lot of character and resourceful educational interest that adds to the charm. We enjoyed the game room where lively ping pong matches between grandkids and grandma took place! Such a lovely stay and a handful of memories to take away with us. Thank you!
