One Bedroom Stand Alone Villa
- english, spanish
we are a retired American couple now living full time in Mexico where we split our time between Barra de Potosi and San Miguel de Allende. From November until April we spend most of our time at Villa Maderas on this property in Barra de Potosi, so there is a good chance you will meet us there.
Why Owner chose Barra de Potosí
Over the years, we have explored almost all of the Pacific coast of Mexico. This place is sometimes called The Last Best Beach because it remains so natural and simple despite being just 10 minutes away from an international airport. We never found any place that comes close in terms of natural beauty, laid back atmosphere, and great community.
What makes this Villa unique
Paradise in the truest sense of the word...if you really want to get away and find some peace and quiet with nature all around you and the beach just steps away, you have chosen the right place.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Mandala villa at Sendas del Mar. The setting is perfect, right on the beach and just a few minutes stroll to the town. The owners, Gunnar and Barbara, are wonderfully giving, gracious, and helpful, and the on-site managers, Tito and Carmen, were warm, friendly, and always ready to accommodate our every need. The villa was spotless and very comfortable. The architecture is beautiful (the photos on VRBO don't do it justice), and the grounds are wonderfully designed and carefully maintained. The infinity pool was a really nice extra, though swimming in the ocean there was quite safe. We wouldn't, however, recommend Barra de Potosi for everyone. The area has almost no development and only a few tiny stores for supplies. The only dinner "restaurants" in town were a few places where homes had opened up an area along the street where they cooked and served simple but delicious tacos, quesadillas, enchiladas, etc.. Food and drinks during the day were available at the many "enramadas" on the beach—open air, thatch-covered, sand-floored eateries facing the ocean and the Potosi laguna (there is also a nice fresh fruit and veggie vendor and a fish vendor next to that where one can get those supplies).
So, not a place for someone looking for anything fancy or "happening." But if you are looking for a quiet stay in a beautiful location with a friendly, small village atmosphere, this is it. Only caveat is that the enramadas get crowded (still not that crowded) on Sundays and Mexican holidays, as it is a favored one-day get away for Mexicans. Even then, though, the "crowds" just hang around the enramadas. The beach, Playa Blanca, is actually 10 miles of gently curving fine sand, so finding solitude is always just steps away.
We loved the place, and especially Sendas del Mar, where we would definitely try to stay again next year.
So glad you enjoyed your stay and enjoyed the beauty of the Sendas compound and the pristine beach of Playa Blanca and we'd love to have you back anytime!
All the best,
Beautiful holiday location!
Comfortable beachfront location with a 10 mile white sand beach with few people on it! Situated near a fishing village with beach front eating places with the best margaritas and coconut shrimp. The grounds are well keep and the caretaker is very helpful with information about the area. Come here if you are looking for a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the sun and sand without crowds.
Gorgeous. Incredibly well-run. Carmen and Tito are so conscientious and professional.
It’s a beautifully maintained property in a fabulous location. I received a very detailed note from the owners’ son with all the info I needed. Things could not be more smoothly run. And the villas are beautiful and well-equipped.
Thank you for your kind words, we are so glad you enjoyed the our special paradise too and the incredible hospitality of Tito and Carmen!
Wishing you all the best,
This property was delightful and more than exceeded our expectations. The palapa was well made and spacious for the two of us. Although there wasn't a full kitchen, we enjoyed the small fridge, the toaster oven, coffee maker and dishes. If you are looking for a relaxing, calm getaway, this is the place for you. I miss it already.
Thank you so much for your kind words and we are so glad you enjoyed our special paradise too!
Everything was spot on. We felt so comfortable with the Mandala the minute we stepped inside and Tito showed us around. It is exactly like the photos. The cabana and the grounds exude a peaceful energy. The information in the booklet and three ring binder made for seamless entry into the world of Barra de Potosi. Loved every minute of it. Thank you so much!
Dear Barbara & Gunnar,
We had a fabulous time at your beautiful home in La Barra. One week was definitely not long enough, two would have been perfect.
We met some lovely people and had such a fabulous time, the locals are all such friendly and kind people.
We did an early morning tour up the lagoon, saw some amazing bird life and enjoyed the tranquil beauty at 7am as we experienced the sun rise.
Tito helped us to book a snorkel/boat tour out to the big white rock and surrounding area. The trip turned out to be much more than we expected, we even saw dolphins which was the icing on the cake.
The highlight of the trip was getting to know the local people and how their little village works. We loved how they open up their homes to become restaurants in the evening. We tried several restaurants and were never disappointed. It was such a wonderful, cultural experience and so relaxing.
We also really enjoyed Tito and Carmen as well. Even though we don’t speak Spanish, we managed to communicate and had fun doing it. They have a wonderful sense of humour!
It was a great family vacation that was enjoyed by all!
We are located a 2 minute walk from the village of Barra de Potosi. It is a tiny authentic fishing village set at the mouth of a large lagoon. Nature abounds; birds, fish, whales, dolphins. You can get a good idea of the area at www.lastbestbeach.com
