Perfect getaway with superb hospitality
Property was exactly what we wished for. It was hidden away in a local village far from the hustle and bustle of the main road. Located in padi fields with stream passing by. We walked through the village, the local market and the padi fields and truly experienced Balinese life. The locals were very friendly and inquisitive. The accommodation was superb with comfortable beds. The kitchen and laundry had plenty of appliances. There was plenty of seating in and outside the house. A great place to visit if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of life in a city. We would love to go back again sometime
Beauty and peace in this amazing Bungalow!
First, sorry for the delay in writing this review. Reality can be halted only for a little while :)
We want to thank Johan for his quick responses to our series of questions, which helped us make the decision on this great house, as we booked the house the night before we arrived !
As we drove into the little lane in anticipation, Kadek, the wonderful person greeted us with a smile and welcomed us. And it was a pretty hot day in May. So she made us dragon fruit smoothie which was refreshing and energizing.
The house is more than what it is in pictures. Its beautiful, vast and peaceful. We enjoyed the pool a lot too. the green forest like backdrop and the fresh water stream flowing right through the middle of the house, is exactly the right prescription for a peaceful and serene stay. The house is perfect for big or small family. We were celebrating our 30th year of our married life, by traveling this year. without our grown-up kids, just the two of us. We loved every minute we spent there.. Some days we just lazed around in the house. THat felt so good.
Wonderful Kadek, kept the house clean, did our laundry whenever we wanted. Helped me in the kitchen, the few times I cooked an indian meal. One day she brought Nasi Goreng that she made at her house.. Loved it. She even arraanged a yoga teacher for us to practice by the pool. But we took only two classes. he a very good teacher.. I would recommend him for sure.. Kadek took me a couple of times to local market, which has to be visited early in the morning for fresh meat, vegetables, fruits, flowers etc! At other times, we gladly rented her scooter, so we could travel to Ubud and back in a jiffy. A couple of times, she even drove me around. Infact she drove us to the airport on the last day by borrowing her relatives Van. She is a very versatile person, IN three weeks we built a bond. I wanted to learn how the balinese alphabet worked, so her 18 year old daughter, Marsellia taught me one day. I had so much fun with her, I was showing my language (telugu) alphabets are similarty arranged. We even chanted the Gayatri mantra together.. God Bless the owners of this house and Kadek and her family too. Together, they made our stay even more memorable. We will come back and 99%, we will stay in this house only! Just for info, Blahbatuh is only 10km to Ubud, which is a half hour on two wheeler.
Thank you Johan for this wonderful experience.
Tata For Now.
Best wishes from Pratima and Srini,
Well appointed with all facilities, beautiful location and very helpful owner and staff.
We were looking for a quiet and relaxing location for a family reunion with our daughters and grandchildren as we all live far apart. It was exactly that. The house is tucked away from busy tourist areas affording a quiet and relaxing environment perfect for unwinding and lazing by the beautiful pool. Many of Bali's attractions are relatively close by (Safari Park, Zoo, Ubud etc) but Kuta and Sanur are over an hour's drive - which suited us perfectly. The house is spacious including 4 (Bali style) ensuite bedrooms, and 2 living areas with well appointed kitchen. Ibu Kadek was warm and welcoming and a great help providing housekeeping and laundry services and made delicious smoothies from local fruits for breakfast as well as cake and biscuits for snacks. Made provided transport for us and was extremely helpful, courteous and friendly and quickly made friends with our 3 grandchildren - he even sang along to their favourite "Frozen" songs (amongst others)! We had a thoroughly perfect experience and found the owner, Johan, helpful and responsive to requests and questions during the booking process and in the lead up to our stay. We highly recommend this Villa and would definitely go back.
House was nice location not so much
First the good - house is spacious well set up with a nice ambiance a good pool and an excellent care taker Kadek. There are 4 bedrooms so lots of people can fit. Outside view is of rice fields which is nice.
Now the bad - first is the location which is at an end of a village going through very tight streets and hard to find also there are lots of wild dogs around so you can't just go out walking you must have a car to even venture outside the gate of the house. There is lot of other wild life around so the noise is very high at all times of night and can keep you awake especially this one animal which I could not figure out but it came out at night and made the loudest shrieks which woke us up a few times every night. It's about half hour drive from Ubud so you need your own transport as you can't get a taxi easily where the house is located. Communication with owner was good.
Traditionally, Balinese people have a mutualistic relationship with dogs. In the Hindu epic, the Mahabharata, one of the main characters, Yudisthira, makes a pilgrimage with six companions. When he arrives at the gates of heaven, his only surviving companion is a dog. Yudisthira refuses the gatekeeper’s command to abandon the dog in order to enter heaven, since the dog had loyally protected him throughout the journey. It is actually Yudisthira who has passed a test of loyalty as the dog transforms into his father Dharma.
This story illustrates the Balinese Hindu concept of ngayah or loyalty and total dedication to the gods. The name Dharma is also significant, as the concept of dharma is central to the moral code of Balinese Hindus and their beliefs about maintaining cosmic and social order. This order maintains gods above humans, and humans above dogs.
A similar story is dedicated to the gecko who shrieks (a holy greeting for the balinese) in the night; we are sorry to read that this time it happend "every night".
We are very happy to read that Kadek, our care taker, is excellent; all our guests have made the same congratulations. Kadek knows that we are not close to Ubud, that's why she is always happy to organise, daily if required, any trip to any direction at any time. She also cooks delicious balinese and indonesian meals!
Saraswati House is an authentic balinese home in a 100% balinese village, away from the hustle and bustle of touristic spots. With the support of our balinese neighbours and friends we try to keep it that way, most of the time for the bliss of our guests.
