Designer by day, author of science fiction novels and children's picture books by night. I live on the property much of the year with my wife, our Bernese Mountain Dog, free-range hens and local wildlife. Lore Mountain and the Writer's Cabin is my refuge from the 'GRIND.' A place where I wrote my first novel, my first children's picture book and my first screenplay. Truly a creative space & a peaceful retreat. We want to share the experience with all who need to a quiet place within humanities reach... (but not to close) to soul search or simply enjoy the peaceful suroundings.
Richmond purchased this Cabin in 2012
Why Richmond chose Lower Lake
Open space with hiking trails and beautiful views in all directions in the heart of Wine Country without the pretenses. An incredibly peaceful place to be year-round where the sounds of crickets, birds and other wildlife are the loudest things you hear and at night, the stars are the brightest lights you can see. How many places in the world can you say that about? We are truly fortunate to call Lore Mountain home.
What makes this Cabin unique
Wake to beautiful, unencumbered sunrise vistas and look up to beautiful starlight nights. Views from every room and deck of meadows, oak groves, mountain vistas, wild life, birding and more. Just magical... everything we could have hoped for...
We woke up the first morning to a wild hare outside our window and mist up to our knees. The second day we woke up to a mother and baby deer. It was magical. The house is absolutely amazing- so much attention to detail and so much thought gone into every last thing. I wish we could have stayed longer- that is my only disappointment :)
My wife and I absolutely loved our time at the Writer’s Cabin and wish we could have stayed longer. We have stayed in many fine vacation rentals, but this was one of the best. An extraordinary combination of a magnificent environment (serene meadow with much wildlife and wonderful views) and a lovely home, fully and beautifully equipped. Add to all this Richmond’s total responsiveness to any question we might have and you get an absolutely fantastic getaway. My wife and I can’t wait to go back!
Beautiful spot and lovely cabin
Richmond's cabin is beautifully situated and outfitted. The bed was super comfortable, the linens and amenities first class. We hiked all the trails and saw wonderful views. A big gray fox hunted moles on morning. There is lots of deer and jack rabbits hopping about too. Altogether a perfect retreat.
From the high-end fixtures and household items, to the gorgeous views and splendid hiking trails, this cabin is a rare and wonderful find! The hosts were exceptional in their attention to detail, easy communication, and warm welcome to this gorgeous retreat. The tranquility experienced waking to the sun rising over the meadow as a lovely doe and her four spindle-legged fawns foraged mere feet from the bedroom’s glass door passage leading to the quaint covered porch beyond was such a treat! The late fall weather was perfection, and I was especially grateful for the thoughtful consideration by the owners in making sure I had all the information and items necessary to be not only comfortable and entertained, but also able to take advantage of all the property has to offer, as well. I’m looking forward to my return to this cozy slice of heaven. Simply divine!
Cabin was clean, well decorated, and warmrm. Quiet and private. Very nice touch by owners.
Would stay here again in a heartbeat. If you stay here, be respectful of the deer grazing just outside.
Beautiful, Well-appointed, and Peaceful
My husband and I had a wonderful stay at the Writer's Cabin. The host, Richmond, provided very simple and clear directions and I always appreciate when there is a binder with additional helpful suggestions for the area. The view of the meadow is delightful, golden in mid-summer, and along with plenty of birds, we saw lots of wildlife at dusk and dawn, including deer, jackrabbits, and a fox. At times with the light turning everything soft and golden we felt like we were in a Disney movie! Private hiking trails on the property were well-marked and we enjoyed some nice walks and views in addition to spending time on the shady porch. My husband is a plein air artist and found this to be a great place to paint, while I enjoyed going through the various books on the shelf.
Amenities inside were fabulous, to the point that I felt like we were staying in a boutique hotel! So many vacation rentals (understandably) have cheap utensils and whatever previous guests have left in the pantry, so I was pleasantly surprised to find quality cooking tools and spices to make it easy for us to prepare meals without bringing half our kitchen along. The bed was indeed very comfortable with a foam mattress that for once didn't make us miss our bed at home even a little! Highly recommended and we received a very prompt return on the security deposit. All in all, a perfect getaway for us from the East Bay.
