About Alexandra Blair
We are Alex and Pat, and we moved to the Vienne in South-west France in April 2012, together with our border-collie puppy Lilly and our tabby cat Eric. We have since amassed many other animals, including another border collie, lots of chickens and 2 donkeys! We have spent the past few years renovating our house and others, in between exploring the area and sampling the local wine! In 2013 the farmhouse, barn and land that makes up La Petite Ferme came up for sale in our hamlet - we were currently living in and renovating another house in the hamlet - and so we bought it and embarked upon the renovation! It was a little more than we had bargained for in some ways - half the walls fell down when the old roof was taken down! - but we have steadily progressed through the renovations, and, in December 2015 sold our house and moved into the adjacent converted barn, separated from the farmhouse by a walled courtyard. La Petite Ferme is now our 4th renovation in France and we hope that you enjoy it as much as we do!

Why Alexandra Blair chose Brux
We live just a few kms from Couhe and love the lively atmosphere the town has, with its sunday morning market, its lively cafes and restaurants, and its quintessential french charm. It is really well served for amenities with 2 supermarkets and plenty of other shops and services, and regular events, such as its night markets through the summer and the air show at the local air field ensure that there is always plenty to do and see. Only 30 mins into the centre of Poitiers by car, our little hamlet makes a great base to explore from and many attractions can be found less than 30 mins drive, with the Vallee des Singes only 3 kms. We hope you will love it as much as we do!

This is a beautiful property and we loved it. It is very spacious and is decorated beautifully.
Communication with owners was excellent. We will definitely stay here again
Charming little Gite!
We were in the area for a wedding and would have never stumbled on this little gem otherwise. Patrick was great; super helpful and nearby if we needed him. The house had lots of space, lots of quirks (what Gite doesn't?!) and as a bonus five trees filled with ripe plums of all colors and a row of blackberry bushes lining the lane...we had a great stay!
Perfect in every way
We enjoyed a wonderful stay at 'La Petite Ferme' - Alex and Patrick were great hosts, and the property is exceptional in every way! Can't recommend highly enough!
A gorgeous and comfortable place to stay
This gite was very lovely to stay in with everything you would need for a relaxing and comfortable stay. The kitchen and main sitting room were both really well kitted out with some very comfortable sofas to lounge about on and a welcome log burner which helped warm the house up. There was also a very large TV which went down well with the teenagers and the wifi was excellent. All the bedrooms had comfortable beds and lovely bedlinen and once we'd figured out how the heating worked were beautifully warm. Alex and Patrick were great hosts who live next door and always on hand for advice and help. They are able to provide groceries and also left us a courtesy bottle of local liqueur which was delicious and welcome! The only slight issue was there were not enough rugs in the bedrooms which could make them more cosy and less noisy (esp the upstairs one) when walking around. A minor comment for otherwise a great place to stay in.
Fabulous gite with lots of character in a lovely quiet area
Great spacious gite, better than the photos.
We had everything and more required for our stay.
Situated in a lovely quiet area so slept very well.
A car is needed as in most areas in France to visit places and restaurants but supermarkets 5 mins away so you could stock up and not have to move as the gite is very well equipped in the kitchen.
The owners are friendly and helpful and close by if required.
Plenty to see and do in a 10 mile radius
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay
A lovely house and really accommodating owners.
We stayed at La Petite Ferme for four days and had a brilliant time. We were a party of two families (4 adults and 6 children). The house is really spacious, especially the children's room. The house is beautiful and has everything you could want for self catered accommodation and more. Pat and Alex were really helpful and accommodating, even taking the kids for donkey rides! Thank you.
There are large waterparks at both Poitiers and Angouleme offering a number of water sports and also a number of plan d'eau very locally (2km) offering lake swimming and activities.
La Rochelle (1hr and 30mins) offers a great day out, either stopping off at one of the many sandy coves around the edge of the city, wandering around the spectacular historic harbour, people watching from one of the many cafes and restaurants, or sampling the fantastic markets every morning.
Fly: nearest airport is Poitiers (25mins). Ryanair offers services from Stanstead, Liverpool, Manchester and Edinburgh. Limoges, La Rochelle and Tours are also accessible (1hr 15/30mins). Car hire is available at all airports.
By Car: The nearest ferry ports are St Malo or Caen (4 hrs), Brittany ferries operates a service from Portsmouth. Dieppe and Le Havre are also accessible (5hrs 30 mins) and Calais and the channel tunnel a longer drive at 6 and a half hours.

La Petite Ferme is well served with amenities, in the nearby village of Brux and town of Couhe, with a bakery van which calls twice weekly selling freshly baked bread and pastries. There is a great bar/restaurant under the covered market in Couhe (7 kms) (with another 3 within walking distance), a sunday morning market, banks, a post office and 2 large supermarkets. For peace of mind, you will also find 2 pharmacies, and a doctors surgery and veterinary practice (both english spoken).
Details of other good restaurants and places to visit can be found in the welcome pack in the house and we will happily advise as well!
The surrounding countryside of the southern Vienne, renowned as one of the sunniest spots in France, offers activities to cater for every interest. Whether you want to bungee jump from the viaduct at nearby L'Isle Jourdain, a thrill-seekers paradise which also offers a wide range of water sports, marvel at the UNESCO world heritage site of the Abbaye de St Savin, or simply sample the local wine at the nearby Chateau d'Epanvilliers, there is sure to be something to suit all tastes.
Well worth a visit, whether with or without children, is the Vallee des Singes, in nearby (5 mins/4 kms) Romagne. A unique monkey park, it is host to the largest colony of Bonobo monkeys in Europe, as well as a huge variety of other species.
Futuroscope (30 mins) offers a great day out for both children and adults alike, with awe inspiring futuristic adventure rides and scientific wizardry.
Les Geants de Ciel at Chauvigny (45mins) offers a fantastic bird show set against the backdrop of the ruins of a château.
