About George and Julie Kalmar
George and I have lived in Los Angeles for 20+ years. We now live in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico full time. We have two children, ages 16 and 26, We work in international education, art and other creative fields. We enjoy sharing our homes with visitors to these three great cities: Los Angeles, San Miguel, and Santa Fe, New Mexico. Our home in Los Angeles is an architecturally significant California modern home with original appointments and design. Our home in San Miguel is a spacious, traditional Mexican-style casa, with a large veranda and yard, and an adjacent casita. Our traditional Santa Fe-style adobe casita is located on 13 acres of high desert, 30 minutes southeast of Santa Fe. Like many of our guests, we love to explore the world, and hosting people from all over the world enriches our own experience. We always provide attention that is both professional and personal.

Why George and Julie Kalmar chose Atascadero
The casita is part of a beautiful 1000 sq meter setting with a large landscaped yard. You can enjoy all the activity of San Miguel's "Centro" and then come home and relax in a tranquil place.
What makes this Guest House unique
Casita de Los Arcos is conveniently located between the Centro, Luciernaga shopping mall, the Charco del Ingenio botanical garden. Our neighborhood, colonia Atascadero, is one of the most attractive in town; it is quiet and has plenty of parking.

Beauty above the town
We couldn’t have picked a more perfect home for our 3 day weekend in San Miguel. This place was so close to downtown and very easy to get an Uber. Julie made our check in so easy and made sure we had everything we needed throughout our stay. She even left us coffee For the morning. The home itself is beautiful and has the coziest beds with heaters throughout the house. Thank you Julie for making our stay so incredibly comfortable and safe.
Beautiful casita nicely equipped
You can walk to center but it’s 15-20 minutes down very steep cobblestone streets you need to take taxi or Uber back. There is no bus service. Uber is only $2 from most places. Botanical garden is walkable and flat also 15-20 mins. Our place had nice patio but no view from there but you can use common area with view. Guanajuato worth a day trip.
Can only second everything Philip H said below. We loved the house, the neighbourhood and the whole experience. The casita's an integrated part of an extraordinary corner property, but very private; we came and went as we liked without disturbing anyone. Julie and George were lovely -- very welcoming, and kind enough to drive us to a couple of locations during our five-day stay. Julie was beyond generous when it came to amenities in the house, suggestions for our visit and overall hospitality. She was always available via text... and very responsive, both before and after our arrival. The "home away from home" vibe dominates here, making the place a relaxing, perfect base from which to enjoy the city. Just wonderful.
Great quiet casita in the heart of San Miguel
We couldn't have been happier with the casita in San Miguel. The location is perfect, just a short walk to the central historical area where you will find many shops and fine restaurants. The casita was a bit larger than we were expecting and was very well appointed with plenty of seating areas, a very functional galley style kitchen and nice bathroom. The bedroom is off the main living area and partitioned with two glass doors, very nice. We really enjoyed the two separate patio areas. Both were well shaded and provided a nice place to enjoy a cool drink after a day of sight seeing. The humming birds were fun to watch. The streets are very quiet at night and we felt very safe. Often you would see the neighbors out for a walk in the evenings. Our interactions with the homeowner was great. Inquiries were replied to very quickly and they checked with us every day or so asking if there was anything we needed. Very accommodating hosts, they get a 10/10 in making us feel welcome. We highly recommend this casita if you are considering a trip to San Miguel.
Thanks for the kind words, Basil. It was a pleasure to host you and Marisela, and if you're ever back in this part of Mexico, perhaps we can meet up in person!
Our casita is located in a peaceful setting away from the noise of the city, but not too far from all the action dow the hill. It is an area where one can take interesting walks, close to the botanical garden and two major city markets.
