About this property

Rural Self-Catering Cottage near Tighnabruaich, Argyll and Bute

North Lodge is a delightful Victorian cottage on the edge of the Ormidale estate in Glendaruel. It sits in its own garden just off the road from Strachur to Tighnabruaich.

North Lodge sits in the middle of ‘Argyll’s Secret Coast’, an area of incredible natural beauty bordered by the beautiful waters of Loch Fyne and the Kyles of Bute. It is right on the Cowal Way, a long-distance path from Portavadie in the South to Inveruglas in the North, which was first devised by the previous owner of North Lodge. Also nearby are a number of golf courses, horse-riding, sailing, walking, numerous excellent pubs and restaurants and even a spa hotel!

The cottage has been completely refurbished in 2016, and comprises a sitting room with dining area, fully fitted kitchen, and two bedrooms (one King, one Twin, sleeping 4 in total) plus bathroom with shower. There is a travel cot for one infant. There is also central heating and a wood burning stove, together with BT Broadband (mobile phone reception is poor!)

Outside there is a garden (please note that this is not enclosed) with outdoor furniture and a trout stream flowing along the boundary, in addition to parking for up to three cars directly opposite the front door.

Comfortable rural property in beautiful area
This property was excellent for the two of us for our summer holiday. It is an old lodge and as such may not be up to some people's expectations but we were very comfortable. The heating and log burner soon warmed it up on the couple of cooler wet evenings that we had. The Cowal peninsula and Isle of Bute have many areas of beautiful scenery to explore from the cottage so we were very happy. The weather was mixed but that is to be expected in the west of Scotland . There are plenty of good places to eat in the area but none within walking distance. We would return!

Scottish paradise
We couldn’t recommend this property and location enough. Where do we start; the cottage has everything you could possibly need in terms of comfort, it’s fully equipped throughout all rooms and the kitchen, plus the fire is fantastic. The location is wonderful, set right by the stream it is a very special place. We couldn’t thank the owners enough for what they’ve supplied and their wonderful communication.

About the host

We (Anna and Kristine Davies) are a mother and daughter who have lovingly restored North Lodge over the last few months to create a comfortable and cozy family holiday cottage. As well as staying in the cottage ourselves, we rent it out for others to enjoy.
Anna lives on her husband's family farm in East Lothian, near Edinburgh, with her husband, two small daughters and a number of pets! She runs her own PR and Marketing consultancy, specialising in rural businesses.
Kristine lives near Perth with her husband and they are both enjoying their recent retirement.

Why they chose this property

We wanted to own a holiday property in Argyll because we love the area and we fell in love with North Lodge the moment we arrived to view it. We have lovingly restored the cottage over the last few months, putting in a new kitchen and bathroom, redecorating, adding a new heating system and putting down new flooring.
We love spending time at North Lodge during all seasons and hope that our guests fall as much in love with the cottage, and with Argyll and the Cowal Peninsula, as we do.

What makes this property unique

The views from North Lodge are superb and whilst it is in an incredibly peaceful location, the local area offers endless choice of things to do in all weathers. Whether it be walking, sailing or horse-riding, outdoor activity is certainly popular in Argyll. However, if the weather isn't kind, Portavadie Marina and Spa is just minutes down the road and makes the perfect indoor retreat. There are also numerous fantastic pubs and restaurants within a few miles, again offering the perfect place to sit back and relax during your holiday.
