About this property

Beautiful large Brownstone Home/ we're in the hippest, happening part of town

This is a beautiful brownstone that we lovingly rebuilt as our family home (picture no roof, floors, plumbing or electric). It is MUCH larger than most homes in the city of New York. A generous, agreeable home in which to relax and enjoy all that NY has to offer. In a city where more than half the apartments are 700 square feet or less in size, with 2,800 square feet this is incomparably spacious (no one has to sleep in the living room) and comfortable and priced for affordability.
We do have a strict no smoking policy and require quiet evening activities.
The expansive first floor of the brownstone has soaring 12 ft ceilings, a gleaming fully equipped kitchen w/washer and dryer, a comfortable living room with large flat-screen television and a dining room with an extra wide table that seats 8 plus diners.
There are four ample and pleasant bedrooms.
On the third floor, one bedroom has a king sized bed, one cozy bedroom has a full/double bed and one bedroom has two full/double beds.
The Main bedroom on the second floor has a queen bed and large en suite bathroom - soaking tub, heat lamp and separate toilet. The office has two couches that can fold out to full/double beds for more options. There is also a snug reading nook on the second floor with a single foldout.
There are 2 full bathrooms and one half bathroom, one on each floor. All linens are provided for your stay.
There is a lovely south facing perennial garden with lilacs, peonies, wysteria, hydrangea and more. Perfect for coffee in the am, an outdoor play space for children, or al fresco dinner at twilight. Wake to the twittering of birds in the middle of the city and forget where you are.
Please, no smoking indoors and no loud parties. This is not a hotel but a private residence in a neighborhood with families.
The cleaning fee is included. Our cleaning people are trained in disinfecting and practice thorough high-touch area protocol.

It is easy to get everywhere.
Subway/MTA - just 2 blocks from the 2/3, 5 blocks from the A/B/C/D - three stops from mid-town/Times Square - 10 to 18min.
If you prefer, LYFT or UBER anywhere.

Huge, homeley house. Great location.
Our party of 6 ladies from Australia had a fabulous time here and in New York. The house is HUGE and with all the creature comforts of home. The location is fantastic, easy access to funky Harlem and easy access to the subway to get you any where in New York. Thank you for opening up your home to us and other visitors. We highly recommend it. Fabulous.

An absolute nightmare 1/2
My friends and I decided we would bring in the new year in New York City and as there was a large group of us, we decided that this home away rental in east Harlem was a perfect fit. On first glance, this modestly kept split level home met all our criteria. a kitchen and bathrooms and sleeping space and it was easily accessible to local subway stations. However as time wore on the luster definitely wore off. The advertised wifi only worked for four of the fourteen days in which we were in the premises. At each juncture where we tried to contact Tina, the home renter, about it we were either ignored or, after an extensive delay in reply, given a non resounding response. The washing machine broke twice and only due to our own ingenuity was it fixed and functioning again. Except for the main bedroom and one other room, the sleeping accommodation were mattresses on the floor. On one occasion the first floor toilet would not flush and began to leak right through to the ceiling of the ground floor. After we, due to one of our guests having a background in plumbing services, stopped the flooding, we reached out to Tina who informed us that she too was very concerned and wished to send out a plumbing technician at our earliest convenience. This never occurred. What occurred instead was the refusal to refund our bond at the time of departure on the grounds that we broke the toilet and inflicted extensive damage to the rental dwelling and the replacement of plumbing would be at our cost. She said that these costs were to come out of the bond she had obtained prior to our occupation as well as from other monies she was demanding we provide her. The libelous claim that our rental group was at fault for this flooding is grossly incorrect. Particularly when evidence of previous mould near the area where the toilet leaked through the ceiling indicated that this clearly was not the first time such leaking had occurred. Since noting this to Tina, some twelve days ago, she has not replied to us nor to home away. Also worth noting, on the ground floor of the dwelling behind a privacy screen there was a set of stairs that led to another door (the lock for which was on our side of the stairwell) that was for an additional dwelling. There was also an external access to this dwelling from the street despite the rental dwelling advertised as private....

About the host

My husband, three children and I love this city. I went to college here and my husband worked here and we rehabbed this home for our family before my husband's work took us out of state. While he is here often for work and I make it back with the children as often as we can, mostly it is open. It is larger than most homes in the city and has a rare piece of outdoor space that is great for kids. It is not an investment property or a hotel but a real home.

Why they chose this property

Harlem is a bustling center. Here in this diverse community we have a large and beautiful home - from high ceilings to a tranquil garden, and on the train everything is close. Just what we wanted - couldn't resist. Perfect for our family and yours. The city has endless sights to see and experience and it's all so accessible in this location in the city.

What makes this property unique

Unusually large space for Manhattan! This is a full sized home. The south facing garden is like a little piece of zen in the city that never sleeps. NYC is full of world-class museums and adventures and Harlem is always on the cutting edge in terms of music, fashion, food and art. We know it is expensive to travel and stay in the city so when my husband isn't here for work we have priced this to make it available for families in particular. Do the research - we sleep up to 11 and you'll spend more on two average hotel rooms. This is a wonderful option.
