About Paradise Found Island Retreat 4 bedroom 3.5 bath home - 14 kayaks/3 canoes
I am a semi retired artist. I bought this island to retire to. After having several of my art customers come stay. I thought, would't it be nice to make a living sharing this beautiful natural spot with those that would never get to stay on an island like this. Or kayak the islands with dolphins Private Island home, land accessible, many amenities you will not get with an in-town home. *

Why Paradise Found Island Retreat 4 bedroom 3.5 bath home - 14 kayaks/3 canoes chose Crystal River
This poor island was abused. I had gone by by boat and saw siding falling off. Major piles of trash every where. I thought how could any one do that to a estuary property.. So 48 hours later I owned it. Private Island home, land accessible, many amenities you will not get with an in-town home. * Specializing in groups of 12 to 20, great for family reunions or gatherings. * FREE use of 14 kayaks and 2 canoes (save up to $800/day). * FREE firewood for nightly bonfires. *

This isn’t a private island, it’s on a street with other homes. The pool is an out of ground vinyl pool with rusty decomposing waterfalls. There is a 2 story art studio on the premises which overlooks the pool there were chemicals very accessible and the pool gate was strapped open, very dangerous if you have small children. The tiki hut/bar is nice but the speakers were not worth using. It’s very narrow so in rainy weather you aren’t protected. They did have coolers for & a fridge which was nice. There was also charcoal but the grills were bad & the racks kept falling into the coals.
The boat ramp only works in high tide so we had to use the public ramp. His gate closed on our boat, it didn’t stay open long enough for the truck & boat to both get through. The owner claimed it closes after 60 seconds automatically but said he closed it manually. It slightly damaged the boat but ruined his gate.
The rental is a stilt home modified into 2 homes. The fire/smoke alarms were missing batteries, there wasn’t a fire extinguisher & we were afraid to use several outlets as they appeared to be a fire hazard. The lower level smells very musty & he admitted it’s flooded several times.
The septic backed up causing one of the downstairs toilets to overflow. When we called, they did come to clean it up, they used the guest towels from the bathroom to wipe up the urine & feces from the overflow. That made us nervous to use any of the guest towels. There were laundry facilities available for a price but to walk to it, you had to walk through a mildew covered walkway & it was extremely slippery and dangerous.
The website doesn’t show that there is no easy way to get to the dock. It required walking past a broken down boat, garage of old cars, overgrowth, two RVs (owner was in one) & depending on the tide you had to walk through mucky water. It was uncomfortable.
The door to the upstairs was stuck requiring force in order to open it from either side. One kid was trying to open this door & while pushing to open it (along with someone on the inside trying to pull it), his hand slipped & went through a glass panel resulting in an ER visit & stitches. The owner did come up to fix the window quickly & attempt to assist the door in opening more smoothly but it still stuck significantly.
It is not remotely close to how it is advertised but had the potential to be decent but for the price it’s not worth it.
I do apologize that you didn't have a wonderful time. We strive to make sure that each and every guest has a unique experience. Thank you for bringing these concerns to our attention, so that we could address them.
1.) As for the pool area-
A.) Chemicals are normally kept on the shelf by the shop door on the other side of a gate which is not part of the guests area, but have since been moved inside.
B. ) The pool
B.) The waterfall is rusty in places with it being in the salt air and above a salt water pool, although it is normally touched up 2 times a year/ now done 3 times yr
2 Tiki is 11ft wide not meant to keep u dry in 30mph winds Speakers work fine if turned on at switch was operator misuse again not asked about

4 Yes I do own 2 cars and 1 boat and 2 rv We had recently bought new rv selling older one. Both cars run tagged no accident All of this is off the area guest use expect the 4 or 5 that use my dock. In 16 years of renting this is never a problem.
5 the week of this had like 20 in of rain and storms in the Gulf. Surge tides will put 3 in dep of water by dock front. Very few days a year
6 The above rain made the door stick and ran debris into the pumpup kit was fixed within 30 of notifications. All towels were made into rages not put in homes ( really )
Yes walkway got bad that week from all the rain again if mentions would have fix in min is not ever done that before
7 Our shop that overlooks the pool was closed in 04 we do store things in there so do go in now and then
8 our ramp is a on a residential property 90 % of guest have no issue some do need to wait till tid exchange as with most residential ramps
9 I am not quite sure how homes and the road in has to do with what is on the island
in 16 years of doing rentals they were the most condescending/ drunk/disrespectful group I ever had It makes me not want to share our unique island with others. That makes my heart heave as so many have come and enjoyed it over the years as you can see for other reviews. Some now think they can blackmail you into discounts. I believe in karma and will not do that
Awesome place! This is the perfect place for a large family weekend getaway. We had plenty of room and spent most of our time at the Tiki bar looking out over the water. We enjoyed the kayaks, canoes, pool, and hot tubs. This place had everything we needed and the owner is a nice guy. I would highly recommend this place!
The rooms are decorated in an island style decor that makes you feel as if you’ve reached a place of utter relaxation and well you have! Owners on site to fix problems at all times we didn’t need anything fixed but they where always kind enough to offer their help! While it was just too windy to kayak during this trip my kids had a blast in the pool while me and my husband could relax in the hot tub, the tiki bar is great for watching out for dolphin activity at all times and I know we will be returning come scallop season to take the owner Ken up on his offer to guide us out to the scallop beds from the private dock. Being out in the seclusion of this island is worth every minute of your time no hustle and bustle of busy commuters and no loud noises unless you make them yourselves!
glad you enjoyed out little island we work hard to make sure all guest have a great time. Please come see us any time
5 star view 2-1/2 star amenities
First off I want to say that only being able to give this property a single rating is unfair because there are areas that deserve better ratings than others.
Secondly I wanted to say that the owners Ken and Elizabeth were spot on and very timely with responses to questions and request. And ken was spot on with his recommendations.
The best part about the property is the kayaks, personal boat ramp, and the obstructed views. And you do get free satellite tv and WiFi.
This property is beautiful and has the potential to be a 5star property. It was mentioned that the owner is ready to move on to something else but still....As we arrived and were greeted by ken we were given a tour of the property. Most everything looks to be as if it hasn’t been touched in years. Everything was clean but it just looked like it could have used some updates to a few amenities like the pool and the lighting around the pool. The speaker systems need updated. We ended up using our personal wireless speakers. The speakers jacks will not work for newer iPhone 8 and up. The tiki bar was nice. It has plenty of seating, a full size refrigerator, and a sink. There is cabinet storage outside. Never could get the fans to work at the tiki bar and would have helped on the nights with the bugs when there was no wind. The fire pit was cool. We really liked the bench/tables at the pit. There’s a outdoor light at the pit also for you to use while night fishing. We fished heavily and caught mostly catfish. So don’t expect to load your cooler up from m this bank. Go get a guide. Outdoor furniture downstairs is rusted and falling apart. A lot of the sliding doors were too stiff for small children to slide. The shower water will scald you if you have it very hot and another water tap is opened. The above ground pool looks like it’s seen it’s better days. The waterfall is badley stained. Only one of the 2 jets worked in the hot tub.
I wish I had better things to say bout this place. It’s not a place that grew on me and I’m sorry but I couldn’t recommend it. And all the cameras did kind of start to creep me out. Don’t expect 5 star amenities at the property. More like 5 star views with 2-1/2 star amenities.
Thank you for your recent review. We do try to ensure that each guest has a unique experience here at Paradise Found Island. Although we try to ensure that everything is up to certain standards there are some things that we do miss. Please understand that within the past 18 months we have been hit with two major hurricanes and a few major storms. We are currently in the process of redoing the waterfall as well as replacing the patio furniture. As far as the two cameras, they were actually disco lights that were being mounted out at the tiki hut. We do try to make sure that if we are aware of any problems that they are fixed within 24 to 48 hours this did happen with the fans and the sound system in the tiki hut. Had we been aware of the issue with the sliding glass door, we would have addressed it within the hour.
Tell your friends!
Phenomenal resort! From the beginning I had a good feeling about this place as I thought the reference to Milton's literary classic was very clever. The experience was far better than I could have even hoped for, as for the price of a decent hotel room in some cities you basically get your own private island resort! Words cannot describe and even picture don't do this sanctuary justice.
Do yourself a favor and give it a try. I can guarantee you will be telling all your friends and coming back to stay again!
Previewing for an upcoming family reunion in February
I just stayed overnight in Crystal River this week. I am planning to host a 60th birthday party/ family reunion for my husband next February and I wanted to come up to Crystal River and see the Paradise Found Island Retreat and the Plantation Resort that is 10 minutes away. I intend to put up my guests of 20 between the two establishments. First, the Plantation is nice but after doing my math it adds up to quite a bit more expense then the Paradise Found Retreat when compared. And the age and condition at the Plantation was not markedly better than the accommodations at the Paradise Found Island Retreat. The walls at Plantation Resort are paper thin and I was woken up a few times over the night. The island will be blissfully quiet. The food and drinks at Plantation are expensive and I am really glad that we will be having the use of Paradise Found Island Retreat and it's amenities to host my extra guests on a day pass basis for a very low extra cost. This way I can feed the group three times a day and save the cost of restaurants which will save us a ton, not to mention the bar bill we wont have to have by bringing our own beverages and serving them from the adorable Tiki hut and bar on the island. There are kayaks and canoes to accommodate 20 passengers all included in the price as well as a pool and two jacuzzi's. I set up a meeting with the owner Ken at 9am Thursday to preview the property and go over my plans. When I arrived the downstairs unit was getting a makeover in the kitchen and main bath and the rest of the unit was in great shape. It was very clean and I saw no bugs, but hey it is Florida, pretty hard to not have any. Upstairs is already spruced up and has amazing views from every window and bedroom. The two massive porches are screened in and that will make for nice indoor outdoor living while we are there. Ken put me in touch with two restaurants right up the road who will do some catering and bring a few dinners over for us and Dominoes even delivers pizza out in this remote location. My cell phone, metro pcs, gets great reception. At the Plantation I could only make emergency calls. And the wifi works great too on the island and also at Plantation. I am a decorator by trade and I think the direction the owner is going in is "cute and island like" and sure it is dated, but so is the Plantation. For the price of admission you can't be expecting the Ritz, but you will get a clean, private island retreat with lots of amenities and a landlord
Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park is one of the best places in the state to view manatees, some of which are treated here before being released into the wild. An excellent value at $13/adult, $5/child, spend the afternoon at the zoo and research center (15 minute drive from Paradise).
Rainbow Springs State Park offers swimming, snorkeling, canoeing and kayaking, hiking and wildlife viewing (squirrels, otter, turtles, alligators, songbirds, hummingbirds, red-shoulder hawks, osprey, barred owls, and various water birds).
Weeki Wachee Springs is where underwater performances by mermaids (women wearing fish tails) can be viewed in an aquarium-like setting. Visitors can swim at Buccaneer Bay, see the Misunderstood Creatures Animal Show, or take a riverboat ride down the Weeki Wachee River.
Crystal River Archaeological State Park is a 61 acre National Historic Landmark, activities include salt and fresh water fishing, bird watching and a boat tour of Crystal River.
Yulee Sugar Mill Ruins Historic State Park contains the remnants of the once-thriving 5,100-acre sugar plantation, serving as a supplier of sugar products for southern troops during the Civil War.
Take a manatee snorkel trip for as little as $30 (let us know and we can book it for you).
Many Orlando area amusement parks and attractions are just a day trip away.
