Period Farm Workers Cottage / Weavers Barn bordering onto open fields.
About Julia Davis
My entire life has been spent visiting north Norfolk and staying in Weavers Cottage. Every school holiday in the 60s & 70s, fruit picking as a teenager, trips with friends, visiting with my own family and now moving between London and Thursford.
Julia Davis purchased this Cottage in 1960
Why Julia Davis chose Thursford
My parents bought the house in 1960 and purchased the contents at auction in the garden, moving everything back inside where it belonged. We've moved ahead with the times; it's definitely warmer and more comfortable (!) but it's also a place of history that's hardly changed. The garden wraps around the house and at times, there's simply no need to go elsewhere. It's all here.
What makes this Cottage unique
Weavers Cottage is a welcoming, much loved holiday home near the coast. It's a real chance to have time out from the busy world we've become used to and offers some serious peace and quiet. Children love the space and the freedom in the garden and surrounding countryside. Yet its no distance at all from neighbouring Walsingham and the stunning north Norfolk coast. A rare find indeed.

Idyllic cottage in peaceful location
We had a lovely, relaxing stay at Weavers cottage. The location is beautiful and the cottage full of period charm, and clearly very much loved. Booking with owner easy & helpful . We would definitely stay again!
Found the property to be quaint. The garden could do with gates for pets , the stair could do with a grip carpet as they are so steep, and bathroom shower slips off taps when hot and not so many rules but over all location good and cottage could be perfect for four.
Always helpful to get feedback from visitors staying at our home who are also welcome to contact us during their stay.
The small garden at the back of the house has original flint walls and a working gate. This makes for a secure outside area for dogs. The much larger garden to the front and side of the cottage has a boundary of hedges and trees where an animal could pass.
A new shower attachment was in the understairs cupboard. These do have a limited life & we make sure a replacement is available.
The stairs are original and steep. Three generations of our family have walked these steps without incident or accident. I do recognise that most people are not used to navigating old cottage stairs and will get advice on what is the safest way to treat the wooden boards for future guests.
Pretty cottage off the beaten track.
Very peaceful and secluded property with olde world charm.Very well equipped and presented.
However because of the steep stairs and that the only loo is in the bathroom upstairs it isn't suitable for toddlers or the elderly.
Good to hear you enjoyed the house and your holiday.
They certainly don't make stairs now like the Victorians did when the barn was converted into cottages. The whole row is the same. Our children grew up there & we're still doing fine in our later years but you're right, they are a consideration. All of the upstairs has the original ceiling timber beams & it does get called magical by children and adults alike. Well worth the journey.
A perfect cottage
Thanks we really enjoyed our stay in your lovely cottage
So good to know people are enjoying Weavers Cottage & the garden, not just on lovely summer days but throughout the year. The seasons in rural & coastal Norfolk are stunning.
The Perfect Getaway
We loved everything about our stay, from the location to the cottage itself. There is loads to do and see locally although you will need to drive to most places unless you like really long walks! The cottage is very well equipped, clean and comfortable. If you enjoy peace and quiet with lovely walks literally on your doorstep this is place.
Throughout the year Weavers Cottage is a great base to explore north Norfolk. The house is full of original features but well equipped for modern expectations. It is a step back in time. Whether you stay close to home in the large garden or head out to the coast and beyond, you will be in a beautiful and largely untouched part of Britain with Norwich and Kings Lynn less than an hour's drive away. A perfect place for some time away ...
Short Norfolk Stay
Stayed at Weavers Cottage for a long weekend. Lovely little cottage in a beautiful, quiet village. Property has charming period features and is well equipped, the pictures don’t do it justice.
Weavers Cottage is a beautiful old cottage in a large private garden. The history of the building, from barn to workers cottage to holiday home is displayed throughout the property. We continue this theme with fittings from the 20th century to a modern kitchen and connectivity for a comfortable and enjoyable stay.
Weavers Cottage sits in the centre of Thursford Green just down from the Thursford Collection, a magical place in rural Norfolk. Sometimes you can hear the vintage fairground organ music during the afternoon if the wind blows in the right direction.
Our photos are always being updated and yes, it is difficult to do the house justice. A lot of its charm is the experience of being there, surrounded by nature, You are away from the bustle of life yet the coast and nearby towns are only a short journey away.
It is always a joy to know your visit was a success and we hope you'll return, maybe during another season. Norfolk changes so much throughout the year.
Relax in the garden, have a bbq, go for a cycle ride or explore on foot. The Thursford Collection is within walking distance (traction engine and steam organ museum). The quiet country road is about 50m from the cottage so the area is ideal for letting the children roam free.
