Thank you for visiting our Serene Lakes cabin listing.

Serene Lakes is the perfect family or couple get away spot for any season and it is especially beautiful in the summer months. Summer activities include swimming, canoeing, paddle boarding, kayaking, fishing and sailing on the lake. The area also boasts the best in hiking and mountain biking on the miles and miles of surrounding trails at Royal Gorge. There is rock-climbing near at SugarBowl and many more activities at the nearby Donner Lake. Truckee is an easy drive for daytime activities, shopping and dining.

Serene Lakes prides itself on its well-preserved natural setting and family friendly atmosphere. It is low-key and inviting surrounded by Royal Gorge Cross Country ski and hiking trails and national forest. The Serene Lakes sandy beach area has a roped off swim area and docks as well as two beach volleyball courts and a summer snack shack maintained by local community volunteers.

Our cabin affords a lake view of Serene Lakes and sits across the street from it. We have a 17 foot canoe that can fit six people as well as oars and life jackets that are available for our guests.

Our two story 3 bedroom cabin can sleep 8 people with plenty of space for air mattresses. There is a fully equipped kitchen with refrigerator, electric stove and oven, microwave, toaster oven and coffee maker as well as plenty of pots, pans and dishes for our guests during their stay. Washer/Dryer is also available as well as plenty of towels for the 2 bathrooms which include a shower and a tub.

Enjoy the open dining and family room area with the warmth and ambiance of a wood burning stove to warm up crisp evenings. The long rustic dining table accommodates 10 adults with an extending table, benches and chairs. Large overhead beams add to the Tahoe charm of this genuine mountain cabin. Enjoy!

Great home base for winter adventures
This home was perfect for our two families with toddlers. Really nice to stay in a real family’s home instead of a company-managed rental. It’s a basic cabin with a great homey, old-school feel with everything we needed for fires, playtime, group meals and comfy beds. The walk across the street to the frozen lake was a magical winter wonderland and we found a great sledding hill nearby. Xcountry and downhill skiing options were right there too. The owner Alec was very responsive and super helpful with advice for the snowstorms we had while there. Can’t wait to go back!

Peaceful stay at Serene Lakes!
This is an older cabin that has the perfect cozy feel. Loved the big family sized table …. Was perfect for puzzles and games. Especially loved being able to use the canoe! We will be back!

About the host

Our family has owned this cabin since 2010. We primarily use it in the winter for XC skiing but due to busy summer schedules with our 3 children we are not able to find time for ourselves. We are in the Sacramento area and just a little over an hour to Serene Lakes.

Why they chose this property

We are avid XC skiiers and bought our cabin due to its proximity to Royal Gorge. Outside of winter, we enjoy getting away from the hot temperatures of the Sacramento valley. We bought in Serene Lakes because it is one of the most family friendly areas. It harkens back to the 50's and 60's when kids could be kids and just play outdoors. There is a beach area that our kids spend hours in the water or just building sand castles. The nights are extremely quiet and you can see the Milky Way at night.

What makes this property unique

Our cabin is just across the street from Serene Lakes. There is a view from downstairs and an even better one from the second floor large master bedroom. The street is level and, if you sit on the porch, people will say hello and maybe stop to talk with you.

The cabin was built in the late 60s and is the old style "big beam baby" with its large beams visible on the first floor. The second floor has vaulted ceilings. Open the windows and a nice breeze will blow in.
