Beautiful beach experience
Switch off on the cliff top
We had such a nice stay at Koala South over the long weekend. It is the perfect escape from the craziness of neighbouring towns and a short walk to beach, pub and general store (the hill was also great for some moderate exercise!). The views from the main balcony are nothing short of amazing and even though we weren't at the house during the day, it had everything we needed and was comfortable at night between the 6 of us. Thank you for having us!
Great hidden gem
Hidden Gem with amazing views, Koala in the back, loved this place.
Lovely compact accomodation with spectacular views and furry neighbours. Only source of heating is fire in main living area which was just about enough to heat the property. Great location for exploring, remember to bring your mosquito repellent though!
The house itself is quite comfortable and offered a spectacular view, fan on the wood fire heater did not work which meant we had to have it open all the time using a Lot of wood, the oven only worked flat out which made cooking difficult, after searching found the wheelie bins 2 doors up.
Thanks for your feedback Doug, the views are simply amazing! As the property is not very large the wood fire does not have a fan, there is a vent which you can open or close. We have organised an electrician to check the oven, which was brought to our attention when you checked out.
We will ask the housekeeper to keep a better eye on the rubbish bins. Kind regards, Great Ocean Road Holidays
Great views in a semi-refurnished house
Most affordable property on Sturt Court which has the best views in Wye River as it extends out on a little cape and the area is quite hilly, which gives the dramatic views. The house was generally clean, and was noticeably refurnished recently. The exterior is dated but with some modern refurnished bits in the interior, giving it a slightly rustic vibe.
The dining tables, living area and bedrooms had new furniture which made it more comfortable. The kitchen however was only slightly refurnished with a new bench top. The cupboards still remaining a too dated and slightly dirty-looking to pass off as rustic. The oven was not well maintained and was also dirty. The dishwasher liquid also ran out and there were not any spares so we had to buy them ourselves after being told by the property managers that it was not a fully serviced accommodation. This was a slight disappointment as most airbnb accommodations would normally stock up sufficient cleaning necessities without any issues or at least provide us with replacements without additional charges.
The only heating option is the living room fireplace which was malfunctioning at the time as the circulation fan was not working.. making it an inefficient heater which took a long time to heat up the room. There are no heating/cooling in the bedrooms. The wood provided were not suitable for starting a fire with simple matches and magazines, as the smaller pieces of wood were processed and hard to light up. Firestarters and matches were not provided on the premise (compared to other airbnb locations, they would normally be provided), so in the end we had to spend additional money ourselves to buy them from Foodworks (apollo bay).
The laundry area/main entrance was dated, but the washing machine and dryer works sufficiently. The bathroom sink was new but shower area is quite small.
Views from the deck were amazing, though a nearby tree obscures the view ever so slightly... however that tree is home to a neighbourhood koala which was there every morning, so that makes up for it. If you were looking for completely unobstructed views (without the tree with the koala), you will be better off looking for the houses that are 1-2 doors down the street (further out towards the cape).
The sound of the waves can be heard everywhere in the house, we didn't mind it and found it great as white noise when sleeping. However some may not agree with this sentiment.
Keep in mind Sturt Court is also not paved and relatively small. So I would only recommend normal-sized passenger cars to be driven there. Trailers would not be recommended to be driven there.
As the general store prices are also more expensive and options are limited, a proper grocery run would require you to go to the nearest supermarket - Foodworks in Apollo Bay, which is approx 30 mins drive from the house.
