We, Carl and Maria Cullimore, came to Comares in 1999 with the idea of buying a holiday home…and we are still here! We continue to be thrilled by the views and beautiful, colourful landscape of Andalusia. The white washed village of Comares is both unique and unspoiled yet only an hour from Malaga. The perfect rural base to relax and explore. La Paz, our finca meaning “peace” was renovated and a swimming pool was built on the hillside. We converted part of the farmhouse to a self contained studio overlooking the pool and our holiday rentals idea became a reality when we welcomed our first guests in 2002. Our next project was Villa Romo, spacious accommodation with pool and popular with families. Friends owning properties locally and wishing to rent their villas for holidays have entrusted us with the keys and management responsibilities. We are proud to showcase a small, quality selection of individual villas, beach houses, apartments and even a seaside Fisherman’s Cottage. The apartment had everything we needed and was close to the beach and one in particular good restaurant "Eclipse". We used the bus which was very cheap and regular taking the coastal route to Nerja. On the down side the sea view was very limited and the apartment is next to a busy road but once the doors were closed you couldn't hear the traffic too much. The owner was very pleasant and always at the end of the phone if any difficulties did arise - thankfully none did!
The apartment is perfect for anyone who does not want to hire a car. Good bus service to both Nerja & Malaga. Shops, bar/restaurants and newsagents etc are a few minutes walk as is the beach & fishing boasts/marina. Eclipse restaurant is ever popular & excellent value. Thanks David.
Budget should not mean dirty! Grubby and very dated.
The location is the only good point this property has to offer. It is, as described by a previous reviewer overlooking shop rooves and only a view of the sea on your tippy toes.
However, the dirty dish cloths, stained and unwashed duvets/pillows, greasy presses and rusty fridge are not acceptable. We could cope with the really old furniture but not with the dirt! I washed a throw from the bedroom to put on the sofa so we could sit on it. We did not sit on the grubby chair. I washed all the dishes we required and stuck with those for our stay. I also washed the duvet cover ( having seen the dirt of the duvet) and only used this for holiday.
I discarded the duvet and pillows that have most definitely not been cleaned for several years. The press under the sink housed a multitude of used and dirty dish cloths and old paint tins. When I moved the bin several cockroaches ran out. The toaster was so dirty the grease smoked when I turned it on. The owner was arrogant from the start and only after clarification of payment from a very friendly Home Away staff member, did I continue with the booking. Communication was then done through another more patronising woman? (I dont need to be told at 60 years of age to "bring your own" pool towels). We were met by a third person with the key , a very kind, rather embarressed lady who explained that she did not do the cleaning, (she agreed to meet us early although the owner had said it was not possible?).
This is my first time to use this site and while contact directly with them was efficient and helpful they need to make sure information on your account is correct e.g. account paid, when it is not. Home Away need also to have a hygiene check to ensure a basic standard of cleanliness. The owner said he was away during our stay so there was no point in contacting him.
I have travelled to over 28 countries and stayed in accommodation including hostels, mobile homes and even tents, this has been the dirtiest!

My wife and I are shocked by this review, the content of which is almost entirely untrue or makes no sense. My apologies for a lengthy response but I do need to comment on some of the points Phyllis makes & add some additional information.
Usually we meet guests on arrival with the keys etc but on this occasion we were away & so one of our cleaners, Donna, who lives 3 minutes walk away greeted these 2 guests. She sent us a message saying they had arrived for an earlier than anticipated check in and guests were fine & seemed happy. Phyllis had Donna´s mobile number but did not contact her again during her 9 night stay. We sent an e mail to Phyllis on April 15th which reads " anything you need during your stay, please feel free to e mail me". No contact was made. Guests also had my mobile number & 24/7 access to Homeaway online but made no contact until after their stay via this review which was only available to us on May 10th. It is unbelievable that any couple would stay for 9 nights in a dirty apartment ( which it is not) without immediately complaining & requesting action.
Apartment is well cleaned & laundry washed between lets. It is well maintained & furniture replaced as needed. All 4 chairs were bought in 2019. Sofabed & 2 bedroom units were new in 2018. Aircon new in June 2018. I personally bought 4 new pillows from Dunnes in Jan this year. Toaster comment makes no sense, grease? Cockroaches? None there now but of course immediate action will be taken if we see any! All cleaning materials & cloths, dustpan etc is stored under the sink yes. We are not ageist & ask all guests to bring their own beach towels - not only 60 year olds. All other towels, linen, WiFi and both UK & Spanish TV is provided.
Phyliss is well travelled ( 28 countries!) but her comments are grossly unfair and for the most part untrue. Our apt. is as advertised & photographed. Clean and good value. We do agree with one comment; it´s a good location! Carl & Maria
We stayed in this lovely one bedroomed apartment for a month and it had everything we needed even dominoes to play in the evening! Easy to walk to nearby restaurants, bars and beach or catch the bus outside and travel up and down the coast visiting the many villages. The apartment is very well equipped and it feels like home. No hesitation in recommending the property and area. Many thanks for letting us stay!!

Great location with a lovely pool short walk to the beach. Apartment has air conditioning so lovely. Would go again
very diasappointed with apartment needs a good overall. bed settee and chair needs replacing.The duvet was badly stained and topper mattress was not very clean,. Sorry to have to give this review as the owners seemed very nice people
Perfect location for anyone
This is the second time my wife and I have been to Carl's apartment in Caleta. It has everything we need and more besides.
Caleta de Velez is both the local fishing port for Velez Malaga and a pleasure marina for motor cruisers and sailboats. The quaint marina is situated 2 kms East of Torre del Mar - a 20 minute walk along the seafront promenade.
Nearby are several small bar/restaurants serving a good selection of local dishes, especially local fish & seafood. Local shops, including a newsagent, grocers, tobacconist, and a bank are a short walk. There is an Aldi and Lidl conveniently situated not too far from the apartment. The saturday local market is excellent.
Nerja and Torrox are approx 15 minutes drive East. Granada, and the Alhambra Palace, is around 90 minutes by car. The cities of Seville & Cordoba are approx 2 hours inland. As is Marbella and Puerto Banus, to the West of Malaga city - which itself is 40 minutes drive from the apartment. Buses run regularly from Caleta to both Malaga and Nerja.
