We offer accommodation with an artistic outlook. Our town house, re-built in 2011, is a completely re-worked 1890 end terrace. The architect has made the most of abundant natural light and ventilation.
Setting the scene for the exploration of Newtown's galleries, shops, music venues, theatres, & restaurants (and exclusively for the enjoyment of guests), is original work by Australian artist Tony Twigg.
After a big day out it is possible to cosy up in front of our burning log gas fire, and further research the next day's destinations, or Skype home, on our 42" internet connected LCD TV. Each room in your unit has built in stereo ceiling speakers, with their own volume controls.
Key Aspects of our Layout
The unit has its own separate entrance, and MIFARE card security. The bedroom features a King size bed, or 2 X single beds. The unit has a separate den with a standard double sofa bed, and a single sofa bed. So the apartment is suitable for two couples, but all guests do have to share the ensuite shower facilities accessed through the master bedroom. There is a second WC off the lounge behind where the Flatscreen TV is seen.
The full sized kitchen has a cooktop, microwave, oven, complete with a 4 place dining setting.
There are adjoining laundry facilities with laundry tub and front loading washing machine and dryer.
The ensuite bathroom features twin head and twin control showers, stone top vanities and heated towel rails.
The kitchen opens onto our fully grassed courtyard where you will find an authentic Italian woodfired oven and a mains connected natural gas barbecue.
At the beginning of each guest's stay we stock the fridge and pantry with milk, coffee, cereals, bread, fruit margarine and spreads.
Newtown has a buzz like no other suburb in Sydney. Our street may bring you the music of young children at play in the primary school opposite, or the singing of worshippers in the Church just over the road, who coexist with rock bands that hire their church hall for rehearsals, as well as the classical musicians practising in their home just a couple of doors away.
Our town house boasts a premium inner-west position: we are a 15-minute taxi ride from the airport, but suffer virtually no aircraft noise. Sydney's Town Hall, the heart of the CBD, is 3km away or 10 mins. by train. (Our nearest train station is 660m away); buses are 280m. Walk 350m to the West, on King St, & you'll find renowned music venue, Leadbelly, retro games bar and cafe 1989, funky cafe Urban Bytes, Charles Thai, offering $6:50 lunches, or Rubyo's restaurant offering silver service and white linen.
The B & B operator is an expert board rider and can offer advice, assistance & surf tours to any guests interested in Sydney's beaches.
(Bronte Beach & Bondi Beach are both about 9kms away.)
Broadway with its huge shopping centre is 1.2km.
Sydney Football Stadium & Sydney Cricket Ground, two of Sydney's major sports stadiums, are 4KM by taxi or 3.5KM on foot. Bondi beach is 20 minutes away by taxi.
380m away on City Road and you'll find Sydney University's Darlington Conference Centre, restaurant and bar.
Stretch your walk to 620m in that direction & you'll find yourself at the main gates of Sydney University, thereby gaining access to a 50m indoor pool & Gym, the Fisher library, parks and gardens & the Wentworth building of the Sydney University union, with its own student priced world of bars, cafes, banks, Newsagencies, computer shops and cafes; (week days only). Sports fans may catch a SU Rugby first grade game,(750m to oval), or a SU Soccer Game.
Walk 730m to the North & you will find the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Medical centre.
330m away to the South is Carriageworks Creative Arts Centre. Every Saturday, between 8AM & 1PM, most locals gather here for the Eveleigh Farmers' Market. The heritage listed Blacksmith's Workshop of the old railway yards is transformed into a meeting hub where the community gather to share stories, learn about the journey of food direct from the source and enjoy delicious fare, coffee, treats, samples and fresh produce direct from over 70 stall holders.
