About this property

Experience Alaska In Your Very Own Private Log Cabin Built By A Former Mayor!

Located in downtown Anchorage, the Mayor’s cabin was built in 1946 by architect Maynard Taylor, who lived in it with his wife and three kids while he was Mayor of Anchorage in the 1950s. The cabin is constructed of solid logs and still has its original metal roof but has been fully renovated and updated, with new wiring and plumbing up to modern code!

The cabin has two bedrooms, a living room, one bathroom, and a recently renovated kitchen. Please note the bathroom is only accessible through the master bedroom. Newly redecorated, the cabin is a fun mix of modern and traditional Alaskan styles. Enjoy the fully-fenced in yard and deck space -- perfect for summer BBQs, or building snowmen in the winter. The Mayor’s Cabin gives you a unique and authentic way to experience Anchorage and Alaska. It is a perfect place to stay while in Anchorage for pleasure or on business. It offers much more room and comfort than a sterile hotel room or modern apartment. The Mayor’s Cabin is a fun resting stop on your way out of town or your own personal retreat.

The cabin has bed space for up to four guests. The main bedroom features a queen size bed and there are two additional very Alaskan (see pictures!) twin beds in the separate second bedroom. The kitchen is very well equipped and the living room is both very comfortable and good for working. There is both Apple TV (with Netflix) and fast WIFI. The cabin is cozy!

The entire cabin and the fully fenced yard is yours. Both the front and back doors have secure keyless entry locks with the code provided prior to arrival.

We may be able to accommodate access to laundry. Please message for more information.

Street parking is readily available. Anchorage is not a walking town, or really a biking town (although there is a great trail system), so having a car is highly recommended.

We are fully compliant with all municipal regulations. We are registered as a business in Anchorage and we pay the 12% occupancy tax required by the Municipality of Anchorage. This tax is included in the rental fee. We are fully insured as a rental property.

I have never given a good or bad review of a property; However, certain issues should be noted
I reviewed the photos of the house and to a certain degree it is my fault for not paying closer attention. I failed to notice how small the kitchen dining table is and how tall the chairs are, which is a problem with a person with limited mobility. The alternate place to eat is on the coffee table in the living area, which has no legs and is approximately 16 inches tall -way to short to reach while sitting on the couch. I also failed to notice the rugs in the living and master bedroom, which creates a trip hazard for the elderly and those with limited mobility. The only shower is very small and cannot accommodate a limited mobility person that requires assistance. The only TV service is Netflix. I have never rented a home or hotel that does not provide local or national TV coverage. These are issues that should be pointed out. The positives are the home is located close to downtown and the owner responds quickly to any questions.

Enjoyed our stay
This cabin was perfect for our needs. We stocked the kitchen on our first day at the grocery store only one block away, so we were able to eat breakfast and pack lunches before leaving each day. We were within walking distance of the downtown area and train depot, and a short drive from the airport. The property manager could not have been better, staying in touch with us after we booked and ensuring we had everything we needed after we arrived.

Charming little log cabin in town
Comfortable and cozy little log cabin, just nice for our little family of 4. Owner is prompt and responsive. Will return if we ever come back to Anchorage!

Tastefully restores historic cabin
This cabin is a delightful surprise when you step inside. The exterior is all original and the interior is tastefully updated. Lots of cabin charm yet all the modern conveniences you need. Excellent location within walking distance of everything downtown. The one bathroom is through the master, but this shouldn’t be a problem for families or close friends.

Originally from outside Chicago, I moved up north in 2012 after graduating from law school. I've lived in Illinois, Maine, Michigan, and California, and feel very fortunate to call Alaska home. I purchased and renovated the cabin in 2015 and can honestly say it's one of the most fun and historic spots to stay in modern-day Anchorage! Please feel free to message with any questions. I am always happy to provide advice on restaurants, hikes, and fun activities!
