About this property

Unwind at this stunning stone-build historic Mansion overlooking the Hydra harbour and town. The Mansion was built in 1842 by a rich family who was actively involved in the War of Independence against the Ottoman Empire by contributing several of their vessels and fighting in the war, and it fully reflects their stature. It was recently renovated fully and tastefully decorated by a prominent Greek artist with a combination of antiques and modern furniture. The Guest House comes fully equipped with modern amenities ensuring that you can enjoy a comfortable stay while you access of the mansions’ several independent gardens and terraces and marvel at its majestic views of the island.

The space:
The Mansion is located at the top of a hill on the west side of the port – which has traditionally been the high end and most sought-after part of the island – enjoying beautiful sunrises and cool breezy afternoons.
This unique Guest House is an independent part of the Mansion, comprised of 2 ensuite bedrooms with showers, and an open plan kitchen and a dining / living space.
One bedroom has a king-sized bed, while the other two single beds that can be joined making it the perfect place for a family of 4 or two couples. Each bedroom overlooks the harbour, so you’ll be waking up to breath-taking views of the harbour, the sea and the mountains, while each bedroom has access to its own private terrace where you can enjoy your breakfast or a glass of wine. The living area has access to a gorgeous and unique courtyard concealed by a protective stone wall to wear off invading pirates.
The guest house has all the amenities you will need for a pleasant and comfortable stay, such as a fully equipped kitchen, aircon in both rooms, toiletries, hair-driers etc.
The decoration of the guest house is done by a prominent Greek artist and offers a very unique experience.

Guest access:
The Mansion is located in a very quiet and family friendly neighbourhood. The Guest House and its gardens and terraces are fully independent and accessible to the guests only.

Other things to note:
The Mansion is at the top of a small hill at the west side of the port of Hydra. It takes a 15 minutes’ walk through the islands’ narrow streets with lots of steps to get form the port to the mansion. It is not advisable to un-fit persons or very young children.

Eine schön eingerichtete Ferienwohnung erwartete uns, die am oberen Hang sehr ruhig gelegen ist. Es gibt jede Menge gemütlicher Sitzmöglichkeiten im Freien von wo aus man einen tollen Blick hat und z. B. das Treiben im Hafen beobachten kann. Perfekter Service durch den Vermieter: Transport der Koffer vom und zum Hafen. Wertvolle Tipps, welche Restaurants und welche Badebuchten zu empfehlen sind ... die wir alle ausprobiert haben und bestätigen können. Außerdem standen leckere Landesspezialitäten und jede Menge Wasser für uns bereit. Wir haben unseren Aufenthalt sehr genossen. Danke Ilias!!

Most beautiful!

It’s hard to say the most outstanding qualities of this ancient yet modernly convenient property. The view of the colorful town, the sea and thriving little harbor is unsurpassed. Church bells keep the time and often one hears donkeys braying and distant roosters crowing. Sunrise is yours while the heat of late afternoon sun is behind you illuminating the mountains before you. The kitchen is all you hope for and various terraces to dine on. Very comfy bed and thick walls of cool quiet stone. The entire hillside town of Hydra is rifled with stairs in all directions from this place. Leonard Cohens is also close by. I miss it and hope to see it again. Walking is the only challenge with stone steps wear supportive shoes.

Nous avons trouvé un lieu magique, avec une vue imprenable sur le port d'Hydra, sur le mer Egée. La maison est ancienne, pleine de charme avec une âme d'artiste, et très bien agencée avec ses deux terrasses extérieures, ses deux salles de bain. Les propriétaires sont très accueillants, tout pour passer un séjour inoubliable et découvrir Hydra et les hydriautes.

My wife a painter and I a theoretical physicist, both Athenians, after travelling around the world, we fall in love with Hydra at first sight. The natural beauty, the sympathetic affinity among rocks, sea, pines and the deep traces of histories and myths of gods, pirates and heroes are the elixir of this lasting love affair.

Why they chose this property

We bought this centuries old, very large historical ruin and we fully renovated it to its initial condition with the approval of the Greek Archeological Service and enhanced it with all the contemporary amenities bringing it to high functional and aesthetic standards, obtaining so the approval of the Greek Authorities (Reg. number: 00000552765).
Now, we are happy to live long periods in it and host nice people from around the world in the privileged, fully independent Admirals Mansion guesthouse of this unique landmark of Hydra.
