SHOAL BAY RETREAT Unit 1 - you won't need your car this close to the beachfront!
About Bryan Lowe
Mandy and I are both English migrants and dog lovers. I'm retired from the TV and film world but Mandy is still busy saving lives as a nurse! Deprived of sun, sand and surf growing up, we now spend our time between Sydney's Northern Beaches and Port Stephens. We first discovered Shoal Bay in 1985 and we have been spending time here ever since. We bought and renovated Shoal Bay Retreat because of its prime beachside location and great flexible layout for guests. We have deliberately maintained those external touches that remind us of retro Aussie Federation architecture, but with all the comforts of home inside.
Bryan Lowe purchased this House in 2016

Very Pet friendly. Tidy unit within a short walk to shops and beach. Lovely stay
Everything was exactly as stated. Instructions were very clear. Unit was very clean and organised. Fantastic stay, highly recommend!
Awesome stay - Fantastic location
Really enjoyed out stay in Shoal Bay. The unit was in prime position, directly opposite the park, really close to the beach, cafes and restaurants but just far enough back from the main street to keep noise down. Also, ample parking around if needed.
Rooms were a great size, hot water and water pressure were both great -Nice big deck and sitting area to relax as well.
Only a few small recommendations. 1) The unit sleeps 4 people comfortably inside, however not necessarily sits 4 in the lounge area with the 2 seater couch. 2) It is a dog friendly shared yard which is fine, but maybe some notice to guests ahead of their trip. We did not take a pet, however the occupants in unit 2 did. When the dogs were in the yard they did frighten my kids as we were unaware they were about. The neighbors did come and ask if it was ok later on. 3) The range hood wasn't able to extract cooking smoke fast enough which constantly set off the alarm with not a great deal of smoke - Maybe the alarm is too sensitive or located too close to the stove. (Better safe than not though!) 4) There was a shortage of linen for the 4 of us unfortunately from the linen service.
Lastly there was a slight mix up at check in with the keys not available as expected, however Bryan was quick to act and had some delivered within 30 minutes.
Thoroughly enjoyed out stay and would definitely love to come back.
Thanks - we’re glad you enjoyed the location and the unit and we will address your helpful suggestions. Emergency key is already in place!
Shoal Bay is the jewel in the crown of the Port Stephens "blue water wonderland" combining magnificent beaches facing every direction, to suit young children and toddlers or keen surfers..with dog friendly leash free beaches too. A short walk away are the beautiful twin peaks of Tomaree and Yacaaba Heads.
