About Jill Parkinson
Back in 1984 we took a last minute, unplanned holiday to Portugal. We flew to Faro, on the south coast, hired a car and drove from Tavira to Cape St. Vincent with many stops on the way. We fell in love with the West Algarve, its friendly people, the charming old walled town of Lagos, steeped in history and with its views across The Bay of Lagos. Wonderful blue skies, turquoise sea, warm sunshine and miles of beautiful, golden, sandy beaches. With the added bonus of being so close to the stunning protected beaches of the West Algarve coast, craggy cliffs, soft sand, wide estuary's and surf. This was an big extra draw. It reminded me of years of family holidays in Cornwall, but with great weather & my husband was missing his earlier years in the South African sunshine!
Jill Parkinson purchased this Villa in 1980
Why Jill Parkinson chose Faro District
By the end of our holiday, we returned home to the UK, as proud owners of a half built house on a south facing hillside! After a couple of years we moved, lock, stock and barrel, to The Algarve, with our two small children, to live the dream! Sadly after 7 happy years we had to return, secondary education for our two boys beckoned. But we haven't looked back, we continue to spend as much time there as possible, visiting old friends and enjoying holidays for celebrations with family, friends and children of all ages. We love sharing it with all of you and really appreciate all the great feed back we get! Over the years my husband has worked hard and developed the garden.
What makes this Villa unique
I now have a studio in the garden, (I don't use this while guests are staying) and have had many exhibitions of my paintings in The Slave market in Lagos. Unfortunately for us artists, this has recently been converted from an Art Gallery into The Slave Museum! I have been lucky that our guests have sometimes bought my paintings, that they have seen in the villa. And sometimes I have been commissioned to do paintings of places that they have found evocative and wish to remember. We have been advertising with Owners Direct since January 2004 - and have had many lovely family's and groups of friends, staying in our villa. With many coming back again and again. A very real ''Home from home

Oh, what a wonderful holiday!
What a fabulous villa, so spacious and well equipped and in a beautiful and tranquil setting. The charming town of Lagos is just 2 miles away, as are the closest beaches, but we often chose to remain at the villa and enjoy a peaceful swim in the large pool. The daily maid service was a great bonus, and the manager was very well informed and provided lots of local information and suggestions for day trips. We all fell in love with it and didn't want to leave!
Superb villa. Ideal for a family get-together
We were having a family celebration for a 70th and a 40th birthday. There were 11 of us from 3 generations comprising of 6 adults and 5 children with ages ranging from 15 months to 71 years of age. We could not have wished for a more perfect place to celebrate. Jill has been most helpful in every way including ordering and arranging delivery of our shopping order for when we arrived. On our arrival Gabriela visited and gave us lots of helpful information. The villa is in a lovely setting only a short drive from Lagos. It is most comfortable with loads of living space and everything one could possibly need is provided. The pool and poolside are a great feature with plenty of sun loungers, shade and beautiful flowering shrubs. The children spent every possible moment they could in the pool and of course the adults enjoyed swimming in it as well. Ascencao, the lovely maid, kept everywhere beautifully clean for us. Our week here passed all too quickly and we were all very sad to leave and wished we could have stayed longer. Many thanks to Jill for providing such a perfect setting.
Superb villa and excellent location
Our fourth year here, it is just so good in all ways. The villa itself is very well equipped with everything you need, it is clean and very comfortable. We visited as a family of three generations (nine in total) but there is enough space to spread out and even to find a quiet area to read and relax when needed.
The pool area is lovely with plenty of sun loungers and pool towels. Even has shady areas so you can keep out of the sun but still join in. The location is excellent with Lagos only a short drive away with shops, restaurants, beaches etc.
Our holiday's here are always great.
We had a great holiday thanks! The girls had a blast to be honest and so did everyone.
The villa is lovely and it has a real charm.
It had everything we needed. Normally we stay at one of the hotels but it was great to be away from it all!
Gabriella was a great help and so was your lovely maid (so sorry I can't remember how to spell her name!).
Hope to stay again soon!
Wonderful location, great villa for family holiday
We were a party of eight adults and one infant. This delightful villa is large and spacious with a variety of areas for quietly relaxing, having fun by the pool or enjoying a big family meal or BBQ. Very comfortably appointed. Peaceful rural location but only minutes from Lagos and it's fabulous beach. The description and photos on the website is entirely accurate. Excellent communications from owner Jill. Gabriela and Ascencao were both very helpful. The opportunity to order groceries ahead of arrival worked very well and allowed us to settle in comfortably the first afternoon and evening. The kitchen is outstandingly equipped. Being a family of foodies, this enabled us to enjoy many memorable meals around the large outside and indoor dining tables. The worst thing was having to leave at the end of the week. I whole heartedly recommend this lovely villa.
Absolutely fabulous villa for large family/group

Fabulous pool and surround with loungers etc. Maid service most days so the property was always maintained superbly.
The position is excellent being high up with superb views yet only 5 minutes from Lagos with its stunning beaches and great restaurants. I have just spent 3 weeks there celebrating my 70th with friends and family joining us all raved about the place!
The owner was exceptionally helpful with all advice prior to our arrival
I would have no hesitation in recommending this villa in a beautiful part of Portugal
Special interest holidays:
Lagos (2 miles from the villa) is a beautiful, walled town full of lovely old buildings and is steeped in history. There is a mass of bars, restaurants and interesting little shops. The local produce market offers a huge choice of fish, flowers and fresh fruit, and it is still possible to eat a simple seafood meal with wine for around 12 or 15 Euros per head. Surfing: wonderful, sandy, surfing beaches on the West Coast which would remind you of the Cornish north coast with the exception of the weather! Here there is glorious sunshine, cooling breezes and fewer people.
Farmers Market -
Every Saturday morning, where you can buy locally grown produce - some of it organic. ( by the bus station ).
Lagos Monthly Market.
On the first Saturday of the month Lagos holds a large market selling every thing you can imagine. This is held by the roundabout on the east side of the town, next to the football stadium. (Morning only).
Tennis courts - There are municiple courts or our east side of Lagos and at The Boa Vista Golf Course on the west side of Lagos - the west side now easily reached using the new bypass.
Faro Airport 56 miles from house is less than 1 hour's drive on the new motorway.
As you leave or arrive look out for the roundabout with the sculptures!- next to the 24hr / 7 day week - petrol station.
Is a BIG advantage - I can recommend a local company who are reliable and do not over-charge. No charge for extra drivers - and no inspection with a magnifying glass ! How-ever it is essential to carry your driving licence and your passport when driving .
LAGOS - The lovely old walled city, beaches, marina and fishing port is 2 miles.
PORTELAS is 1/2 mile from the house and has a shop and 2 restaurants.
SILVES - The Moorish capital of the Algarve, with its Castle, Cathedral, Moorish sculptures, Cork Museum is 40 mins.
CALDAS de MONCHIQUE the small spa town in the hills - famous for Chicken Piri Piri approx 40 mins drive.
CAPE St.VINCENT - the south-westerly point of Europe next to the small town of SAGRES where the fish couldn't be fresher! approx 45 mins drive.
I welcome lots of questions to help you make your choice.
Pool Cover / Blanket - we have a new pool cover (on a roller with wheels). This increases the pool water temperature by in between 8 and 10 degrees with good sunlight during the day - and greatly helps to stop the temperature dropping and water evaporation over night.
Internet Access - our local signal has been upgraded and increased. And our phone has been rewired from the villa to several posts away. So we are hoping in future that the wireless connection will be much more reliable than it has been in the past, connection details are in the villa. But you will need to bring your own lap top.
Horse riding stables are within 5 minutes drive, and tennis courts within 3 miles. Painting classes are available for most of the year - even one to one - with paper and paints provided! Slide and Splash water park 30 minutes. Zoo 10 minutes. Marine Water Park about 30 minutes.
Information about banks, doctors is all available in the villa.
Plus information on safari trips in to the Algarve interior! Boat trips with BBQs etc.
A Cultural Centre in Lagos with plays, concerts and exhibitions.
The historic Slave Market is now a Slave Museum.
Lagos Zoo - is worth a visit and you can enjoy the restaurant there as well.
The new Formula One race track is only 20 minutes away.
I am sure I have missed things out. But we have a file of information in the villa! There is a mass of restaurants, bars and clubs within a couple of miles - no shortage of choice to suit everyones taste - and taxis are cheap!
