Villa in Competa, Andalucia, Spain - Peaceful Location within the Sierra Almijara National Park
About Rory Carson
We're a family from Oxfordshire and in 1982 we bought a property in Menorca when our children were young and then decided to move to mainland Spain when they got older. We have 2 Labradors which tend to limit us on travel (!)but spend as much time in Spain as possible; we love the country and we love the people. We chose this villa in Competa because the village is not too small and not too big! Great variety of restaurants and walks etc. The villa itself is a complete one-off with some of the mos spectacular views, from its terraces, in the area. The North African coastline and mountains can sometimes be seen in the distance! The local Spanish community are very friendly and, whilst keeping their traditional culture, mix happily with the tourists and expats. A perfect place to relax.
Rory Carson purchased this Villa in 2007
Why Rory Carson chose Cómpeta
Location, location, location! This property is situated on the top of a hill overlooking the Sierra Almijara mountain range on one side and the Mediterranean Sea on the other.......sometimes with the North Africa coastline and the Rif Mountains looming in the distance. Although remote the villa is not isolated, with Competa being about a 10 minute drive away. Away from the tourists and away from the masses! On the other hand the beach restaurants of Nerja, offering some of the finest and freshest sea food, are about a 30 minute drive and the historic city of Malaga about 45 minutes with a ferry terminal to the Spanish enclave of Mellila in North Africa. The villa is in a perfect base to visit, Sevilla, Cordoba, Ronda and Granada with the Alhambra Palace is only about a 90 minute drive.
What makes this Villa unique
The property is comfortable but not ostentacious. It is quiet and the night sky is virtually pollution free! The traditional Spain is on your doorstep with the local goatherd being shepharded around the local countryside. The vineyards and farmland are still being hand harvested and the land is worked throughout the seasons. Competa wine, grown on the vineyard local to the property is well known and an ideal present to take home. The Competa honey collected in beehives in the mountains overlooking the property is another "must have"! The cooler mountain walks are easily accessible from the villa and the book "The 25 best walks in Competa" which provides a great selection and variety of different grades of walks is available in the villa. A slower pace of life and a perfect place to relax!

This is just the place for stunning views and peace and quiet. It's a little piece of heaven, away from it all. A lovely, comfortable finca with everything you need on top of a hill. The outside area is great with BBQ and pool facing the views. We didn't want to leave and will definitely be returning for another visit . Highly recommended.
I am delighted you enjoyed your holiday at Finca Tabitha so much and thank you for your kind review.
It is a bit different but it certainly seems to tick the right boxes for so many of our guests. We have so much repeat business and I do hope we will hear from you again sometime in the future.
Excellent Views, Sea & Mountains
What an amazing place with sea & mountain views and your own private swimming pool to cool off in. We really enjoyed our stay it was nice to just switch off, relax and spend quality time as a family. Competa is a nice little town with good shops, restaurants and only 7 mins drive away. The villa is perfect for a family of 4, we had all our meals on the very large terrace which is very nicely shaded.
The only issue we did have was running out of water as in this part of Spain when there's a shortage the local authorities cut it off, but it wasn't a problem as Carl come over and refilled the storage tank.
Kind words and thank you Ahmed; it's a great, little (!) place for R&R and to recharge batteries etc. We are fortunate in having such good agents who are always on hand to help out should the need arise.
Hopefully welcome you back again sometime in the future.
Peaceful get away Finca.
Great views of mountains and sea just far enough outside of Cómpeta to be not too far away. Lovely and private due to hilltop location. Wonderful passing birdlife e.g. Eagles, Perigrine Falcons, swifts galore. One negative in that the Finca water supply was not checked on previous change over day, by the Agent of the owner (not the owners fault) this meant we were without water for 26 hours until tanker refilled. Overall, an outstanding experience that leaves an indelible memory.
Thank you for your kind review and delighted you had a successful week at Finca Tabitha; It is a perfect place to relax and it offers a wide variety of interests, the wild life being one of them!
I do hope we will be able to welcome you back again sometime in them future.
Amazing 6 days!
Not the first time we've been and won't be the last; home from home!
An excellent short term break and gave us just about enough time to recharge our batteries. Each time we go we find new things to do and new places to see
A wonderful getaway location : terrific views plus peace and tranquillity.
Spotlessly clean, everything was as expected – but more so ! A warm welcome awaited us on a chilly February evening as the owner had arranged for the heating to be put on in advance.
The property is extremely well equipped – set up as a second home rather than just a rental property – and it was very good to be able to get internet Wi Fi ( measured at 6 MB/s - which is better than many rural areas in the UK !) and all the digital UK channels instantly and with no extra charge. This is not standard fare in our experience.
Although we enjoyed sunny days throughout our stay, the evenings and early mornings were near freezing at first, so we needed to make full use of the heating provided. No extra charge was made for this : a similar finca nearby demanded 95 euros a week for heating this time last year ! Both owner and local agents were very quick indeed to respond to any queries we made – which wasn’t often.
We were out walking every day of our stay – mainly in the mountains but also some coast and local walks for variety. We are already planning our visit next year and were not at all surprised to discover that a good many before us had done exactly the same thing !
Thank you so much for your favourable review and it is wonderful your visit to Finca Tabitha was such a success. We are very fortunate to have so many guests who enjoy the peace and tranquility of this part of Spain and in particular Finca Tabitha. I do hope we will,be successful in tempting you back again sometime in the future!
Tranquil and private with stunning views
We had a wonderful week on top of a mountain with a lovely pool and fantastic views. The village of Competa is close with some great places to eat. A great place to get away from it all
Thanks to Rory for ensuring the stay went well.
Thank you so much for your kind review. We are so pleased you enjoyed yourselves and it is lovely to get such positive feedback from our guests. We do hope we will be able to welcome you back sometime again in the future.
