The Neolithic village of Khirokitia is the cradle of civilisation in the Levant. It is the site of the 1952 excavation that unearthed a 7000BC Neolithic site that is still the most important archaeological dig in Cyprus. The House of Achilles is situated on the edge of the village on a private road. Khirokitia is a 25 minute drive from Larnaca International Airport. The family friendly Blue Flag Governor's Beach is a 10 minute drive away . There are nature walks from the front door of the property. Khirokitia is a working village with approximately 500 inhabitants. Many of the villagers tend their olive and citrus groves. Haloumi cheese is still made in the village and there is an ancient olive press housed in the local museum. Khirokitia has 2 small grocery stores and a coffee shop within a 2 minute walk of the house. There are also many excellent local restaurants within walking or driving distance. The valley below the house was the site of a Mameluk raid in the 15th century: Venetian & Lusignian ruins are still visible. The valley hosts an abundance of flora and fauna and is a bird watchers paradise

Nicosia, Larnaca and Limassol are equidistant from The House of Achilles: approximately a 25 minute drive away. Water sports, restaurants and clubs are easily accessible all along the Limassol coastline. The skiing resorts of Troodos are a 70 minute drive. It is possible in the winter to swim in the pool or sea and ski on Troodos on the same day. The House of Achilles is a unique house with all modern day comforts in a peaceful and tranquil setting. Beautiful stone farmhouse
The house is beautifully restored to a very high standard and fully equipped with everything needed. The pool is perfect for days at the house when you need to cool down and is regularly maintained to keep it clean. The location is ideal as it’s close to Governor’s beach, local shops and supermarkets and restaurants. We would highly recommend this place and will stay there again when we visit Cyprus.

Authentic Cyprus Experience
It was fantastic! We were looking for an authentic Cyprus experience and got it. Village market and coffee shop 2 minute walk away. The locals were very friendly. Nick was a huge help. We took his advice about a few eating establishments. He takes wonderful care of the house and pool which are lovely. Had a blast picking apricots and almonds from trees on and by the property. And he left an amazing welcome package for us! Would definitely stay again if ever in the area!

Beautiful home, beautiful location, amazing memories!
From the start, Rosanna was quick to answer, very informative and extremely pleasant to work with. The house is large and was extremely clean. We were met by Nick when we arrived, who walked us through the ins and outs of the house, who was also very pleasant and made us feel super welcome. As we were there for 10 days, he came through midway to give the house a thorough cleaning for the remainder of the stay. The location was perfect. This was a family reunion/meeting for my mothers side of the family. My sis and myself have never been here and were able to see where she is from - Nicosia. The space was large enough and centrally located enough for us to have the local family to come to us and visit on the large patio, where we grabbed take away food from one of the local places. We really couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Thank you for the amazing memories you have helped us create. Would 100% recommend this house!! Oh let me not forget how amazing it is to have en suite for each room!!!!! ☺️

About the host

My Great grandparents and their siblings built the row of houses now known as Riga Fereou probably from about the 1870's. They were landowners, had oxen and wheat fields. They had olive groves and donkeys. They had fig and pomegranate trees. Their land below the house in the valley still has the remains of a medieval palace and mill from the Lusignian period and the bijou Byzantine church of Our Lady of Fields. A medieval walk takes one from the centre of the village along the banks of an escarpment which was used from ancient times by mules and donkeys to carry provisions and produce. Wine was more plentiful that water and the villagers carried it from the mountain villages above Vavla in skin sacks to drink with their meals. Villagers rose with the sun and went to bed when it set. Although that way of life has changed, the village remains a quiet and tranquil window on the past.

Why they chose this property

The House of Achilles is unique. It is also maintained to the highest standards and is still very much loved by the owners family.

What makes this property unique

Beautiful cool stone building, sparkling clean pool, fragrant blossom, delicious haloumi olives and wine, fresh warm air, clear skies, thousands of stars, heavenly sun 360 days of the year.
