Fuseta, with its wonderful beach, is only 5-6 kms away. There are other beaches close by and the stunning Falesia beach is 20 mins away. There are ferry boats from Olhao, Cabanas and Tavira which take you to the wonderful unspoilt island beaches of Culatra, Armona, Farol and Isla Deserta all within easy reach. Well worth a trip, fantastic golden sand. Private boat trips from Olhao over to the the islands, half day or full day, sunset tours. Very interesting to hear the history of the islands.
The villa is only 20 mins from Faro airport and is accessed with very good roads. Please note car hire is essential. Having good access to the motorway opens up the whole of the Algarve and Spanish border (40 mins) for exploring. Lisbon is approx 2 hours 45 mins drive. Seville approx 2 hours. Central Algarve with water parks (Aquashow), popular karting in Almancil and water sports in Vilamoura only 30 mins away. Albufeira 40 minutes, here you can find Zoo Marine & swim with the dolphins.
Within easy distance are Tavira (regarded as the loveliest town in the Algarve), Estoi (with its Rococo palace, and Roman ruins), Olhao (fishing port, markets and fine shopping) and Vila Real (16th century town on the Spanish border. Seville can be reached with 90 mins, Lisbon approx 2.5 hours and Cordoba 3 hours. Within 30 mins driving west one can access major central Algarve towns and attractions. The nearby Ria Formosa National Park offers excellent walks, extensive beaches and birdwatching.
The small town of Moncarapacho is approx 3 kms away with supermarkets, pharmacy, bars, 3 excellent restaurants, petrol station, internet cafes, cash machines, museum. There is also an excellent bistro restaurant approx 800m (within walking distance, 12/15 mins) of the villa. Eating out in this part of the world on wonderful local fish, meats and wine is still incredibly inexpensive. You will find it hard to spend more than 10 euros per night (per person), including local wine. Olhao has numerous restaurants along the waterfront, now with a good variety to choose from, Italian, Indian, Chinese, Brazilian Rodizio's, Mexican and of course many fish restaurants which come highly recommended. Children's menu's available in all. Olhao has an indoor shopping mall 'Ria Shopping' with various outlets, clothes, shoes, sports shop, food court and a very large hypermarket open to 11pm 7 days a week. Activities in Olhao include boat tours from the marina, several operators now offer trips to the islands of Culatra, Armona and Farol. Well worth a visit to explore the beautiful beaches of the Ria Formosa, look for sea creatures, go snorkelling and to hear the history of Olhao and the islands. Tours can be booked before arrival as owner personally knows the operators. Diving is new to Olhao . Tavira (20 mins by car) is a must to visit. Beautiful architecture, very picturesque, lots of very good restaurants, ferry boat trips to Tavira Island. Pedras del Rei (Baril) is on the way to Tavira from the villa on the N125, fantastic beach, little train takes you there . Popular with everyone, one of our favourites!
