Unforgettable hilltop holiday in Umbria
My family and I had an extraordinary two-week stay at Casaccia. It is situated in a breathtaking - albeit slightly remote - location where you can truly relax after a day of touring. The house is large and comfortable and has a superb pool and magnificent views. It is located within 1.5 hours of many beautiful towns, including Gubbio, Siena, Cortona, and Perugia. The owner and on-site manager were very accommodating, and the owner's instructions and recommendations are excellent. I highly recommend for large families or small groups of all ages.
Trouble free stay in a beautiful part of the world!
Well kept property with a great swimming pool overlooking gorgeous countryside. The owner supplied comprehensive information on all aspects of the property and the surrounding attractions and services - in particular the many great restaurants.
An extraordinary place of tranquil beauty.
We enjoyed a week long stay in San Leo Bastia with our two children (seven and two). The house has an incredible calm about it and though the initial sense of remove from civilisation was initially something of a surprise, we quickly found ourselves in a very special place that offered an incredible vista and tranquil calm. We immediately missed the house after leaving and realised what a special silence it has and what a wonderful effect that had on all of us. The house is very well appointed, and the facilities are in excellent condition. The pool is also exceptional, the natural unchlorinated water a joy to swim in, and very well sized and with a spectacular view at the end of the garden. This is the sort of house where you don't actually need to go anywhere else (though if you do decide day trips are in order head to Gubbio for one the most special towns with a remarkable history).
Dear Isabelle, thanks for leaving such a lovely review and we're so glad you had such a great holiday.

Special interest holidays:
Italy is the home of slow food. There is a huge selection of local produce in the shops. There are also some fabulous vegetarian and organic restaurants within easy reach of the villa.
Wine tasting and Italian cookery courses are also available nearby. Many beautiful country walks and mountain biking also available, plus guided cycle rides suitable for all the family (with bikes supplied). Lake Trasimeno has some lovely beaches, plus canoeing, waterskiing, sailing and other water sports.
Lake Trasimeno is about 30 minutes drive from the house and offers many water sports as well as ferry trips to the islands Maggiore and Polvese. The Adriatic Coast (Ancona and Fano) to the east and the Tuscan coast (Cecina, Orbetello) to the west are both about 2 hours drive.
Nearest airport is Perugia, 40 minutes drive away, with Ryanair flights from London Stansted five times a week including Fridays. A total of 7 airports serve the area.
Perugia (Ryanair). Bologna (British Airways). Forli, Bologna (Ryanair). Florence (Meridiana). Pisa (British Airways, Easyjet, Ryanair). Rome (British Airways, Easyjet, Rynair). Ancona (Ryanair)
Cars are available for hire at each airport. The house is a 1,000 mile drive from the Channel Tunnel. Euro Star trains go to Florence
San Leo Bastia (nearest village, with shop, bars, 2 restaurants) 4km.
Mercatale di Cortona (nearest town, with butcher, baker, chemist, 3 banks, 2 supermarkets, bars and restaurants) 8km.
Cortona (fantastic array of shops and restaurants) 20km
Umbertide (large commercial centre with supermarkets) 15km
Lake Trasimeno (restaurants, beaches, water sports, boat trips) 15km.

There are markets in most towns in the region and many festivals and religious ceremonies that date back centuries, not least the annual Palio horse races in Siena. There are monthly antique markets in Arezzo, Citta di Castello, Gubbio, Cortona, Perugia, Assisi and Anghiari. There are numerous weekly food markets in the local towns.

Why Chris & Rachel Dickinson chose Città di Castello
We have holidayed in Tuscany and Umbria over many years and finally took the plunge and bought Casaccia in 2007, doing it up and adding the pool in 2008. It is our dream house and we're happy to share it with you. Perched on the top of a hill, the location is amazing with a view to die for, while the villa itself is utterly charming. It is also bang in the middle of the wonderful region of Tuscany and Umbria, with access to so many amazing old towns and cities. We hope you can enjoy Casaccia and the surrounding area as much as we do.
