About this property

12th Century Farmhouse with Private Pool

An ideal spot for those looking for complete relaxation in a rustic and traditional home dating back to the 12th century, next door to a Roman Church. This farmhouse offers all mod cons in a traditional setting including a private pool. The open kitchen/dining room has a large stone fireplace with range oven and additional stone fireplace in the sitting room. There is WiFi broadband, a DVD player, board games, children's toys, coffee maker, dishwasher and a washing machine. The old barn contains sports equipment, table tennis table, table football and furniture for the garden. Access to the garden is via the adjoining old barn so expect a few cobwebs! There is an old stone grill in the garden or a portable small bbq to use. The garden has a 6m pool and part valley views. The beautiful Bastide town of Monsegur is 5 minutes away with good restaurants, cafe/bars and several shops including a supermarket, artisan shops and a weekly Friday market for fantastic local produce. There is local horse riding, canoe hire on the Gironde river and a 'go ape' zip wire 10 minutes away. Also a swimming lake with beach area and cafe 10 minutes away by the Canal Du Midi. Numerous vineyards are in the area between Bordeaux, Bergerac and St Emilion for wine tasting and the beaches and oyster bays of Arcachon are a 1.5 hour drive away. The cultural city of Bordeaux with it's International airport is only 50 minutes away and the UNESCO site of St Emilion a 30 minutes drive away.

Fantastic place to relax with the family
We loved our stay. The house is great. Beautiful charming atmosphere with a very nice pool. The house is next to the church which rings its bell three times a day. Big kitchen with a big table which made it our favorite spot in the house. Very nice villages nearby. We would love to come back.

Peaceful, rustic and fuss free.
As a family from the UK with two teenage daughters we thoroughly enjoyed our relaxing week in this quirky, charming and characterful property. If you're looking for a place to completely escape, this is perfect. Situated in a small hamlet but in easy reach, by car, of local amenities and places of interest.

About the host

Host profile image
Alex and Natalie live in the UK near London and regularly visit the house for their own holidays with their 2 daughters.

Why they chose this property

The house is extremely well-loved and doesn't disappoint on its traditional features whatever time of year you choose to visit. Its perfectly situated only 5 minutes drive from a beautiful Bastide town with an increasingly great range fo bars, restaurants, artisan shops and markets yet is incredibly peaceful in the fields and vines. The sunflowers in July are magical and the vines stunning to walk through. Ensure you play boules next door in the church car park and sit reading in the apple tree hammock to really appreciate how relaxing the house can be.
