About this property

Modern Conversion, Stone Barn in a small village in the vineyards of Languedoc

You can also spend your holiday here relaxing in the peace and tranquillity on the edge of a tiny hamlet of Caunettes en Val surrounded by vineyards, with the foothills of the Pyrenees nearby. A few tractors and cars pass by each day, but normally, the only sound you’ll hear will be the wide range of birds around. Inside, it is comfortably spacious. You can sit outside at the back overlooking the vineyards and mountains eating, drinking or just relaxing. You can also sit out at the front where you can watch a tiny part of the world go by. There are plenty of places to visit and things to do in the area and lots of very rewarding walks and bike rides in and around the village. As you would expect, the local food and wine are excellent, both to have at home and to eat out. Due to a beautiful mezzanine balcony, this accommodation is not suitable for toddlers or lively older children, particularly if they like climbing! We request that guests do not smoke inside the house. You will need the use of a car in this location.

Un beau gîte et un beau village
Nous avons fait du vélo presque tous les jours.le gîte est très bien situe pour ce type d’activités. La proximité d’une voisine a créé un intérêt supplémentaire Bref, excellent séjour

Nice house with some comments
The house was nice. However the advertisement was really misleading as there were no comfortable sun chairs on the terras and the outside table was not horizontal so your glass would move off. Furthermore there was no dish washer, no dryer, no CD player and no coffee machine. The shower was really old and the shower door couldn't be closed. Also, it was not comfortable during heavy rain as the roof wasn't fully waterproof and at 4 spots chairs and floor became wet. In addition the windows in the bedroom area didn't have curtains so you would wake up too early from daylight. Having said this, the communication with the owner was very good. We were really happy with the offered opportunity to use the WIFI at her house in case needed. In addition the local representative was very friendly and although our arrival was a little confusing, everything worked out well! Overall our stay was good at this quiet location in a very nice village!

About the host

I live in England with my husband Frank.
Our children have all left home and we have both retired, and work part time which we love. We also love spending time with our children and grand children, both in England, USA, and when they come and stay with us in France.
We love spending holidays at our home in this charming village and have really enjoyed converting the barn into a gorgeous gite.
The work has taken a long time, but we think it was time well spent.

Why they chose this property

We bought our house and the barn, not knowing for sure what we would use the barn for. It has gradually evolved into this beautiful home described, with the help of local artisans, artists, and Frank's many talents, including amazing copies of Picassos and Miros.
We chose the area because it is close to so many beautiful places. Although we do travel around sometimes to the villages towns and cities named, we are often contented to stay in our charming home village.
While Caunettes is only a few minutes from Lagrasse, a beautiful historic and artistic small market town, when in Caunettes, you feel 1000 miles from anywhere!

What makes this property unique

The Barn is a very special space to be in. Our friends often ask us why we don't move into The Barn as it is so beautiful, and let our house.
We're settled in our house (which is a couple of hundred yards away in the middle of the village) so we're happy to let our beautiful barn so others can enjoy it as a tranquil haven and a base for many happy trips. There are many places to walk in the area, including a waterfall which is only about a 10 minute walk up the road towards the picturesque village of Meironnes, which is 3 miles up the road. There is a sculpture trail with 2 levels of walk, just before you reach Meironnes, with some permanent sculptures and some sculptures changed annually. These are situated within beautiful scenery. The local countryside is also inviting to enthusiastic walkers, climbers and cyclists. We advise wearing long trousers and closed shoes if you go off the beaten track, in case of snakes, though there are many clear open paths!
