About Julia and Tarkan
We offer sensitively renovated historic apartments with elegance and character, in the fascinating district of Beyoglu: the heart of Istanbul. We're a small Turkish-British family project. Julia and Tarkan have led international lives based in Istanbul then Singapore, most recently balancing between England and Istanbul. Along the way we've raised our son, now 12 years old, across the cultures as we've steadily grown our other baby - this holiday apartment project which we now run full-time. We understand the makings of a great city-break stay and we try our very hardest to deliver it to our guests in Istanbul. Your questions and booking will be handled by us and then, on arrival, Tarkan's family and our team, with their natural Turkish hospitality, will welcome you to your apartment.
Why Julia and Tarkan chose Beyoğlu
Galata has a genuine, very welcoming and diverse community with an intriguing mix of cafes, restaurants, small grocery shops and artistic boutiques. Elegant 19th Century buildings line cobbled streets, with discoveries waiting around every corner. No matter where you wander, you’ll always find your way back to Galata Tower, which has been a well-loved landmark for the last 700 years. Metro, bus, tram and ferry stops are all only a couple of minutes’ walk away. You can be in Sultanahmet (for the big sights of Ayasofya, Topkapı, Blue Mosque etc.) in about 12 minutes by public transport or 20 minutes on foot. In the other direction, by Metro, you can be in Şişli (for Istanbul’s biggest shopping mall) in 10 minutes or Levent (for Istanbul’s business district) in 15 minutes.

Very funky spacious apartment in a fantastic location.
Charming property and great hosts.
IT was a lovely centrally located property close to Istakal avenue and close to the taxi stand, the tram station and underground transport . Our hosts were thoughtful , helpful with great suggestions . Complimentary travel cards provided. Tashkim was absolutely a joy to work with . We are a young and healthy family so we did not have any issues with climbing 3 floors of stairs but an elderly family may not have been able to navigate this climb .
We fell in love with Istanbul and the apartment helped us to do so.
We were traveling with our 2year old son and the apartment was perfect. Great amenities, great location and a pleasure to deal with.
Very cosy place
The apartment is very convenient. Quite well furbished and quiet. The decoration and furniture are very beautiful and it was renewed with a very good taste, which makes you feel both home and yet in a "special" place. The living room is nice and cosy but our daughter who was sleeping there found that maybe there was a bit too much light and that it was not very warm during the night. Two other children were sleeping (very well) in the other bedroom.
The place is very easy to reach (from the airports a Havatas shuttle brings you very quickly to Taksim and then it is a 20' walk, 5' in taxi) and you couldn't dream of a most convenient location to visit Istanbul. From there, you can go everywhere very quickly. The neighbourhood is nice and lively and Shamshod who welcomed us was very friendly and always ready to help. For us the only drawback of renting an apartment rather than a hotel is that we had no place to leave our luggage after checkout (there are a few left-luggage in town, but not so many, we found a tiny one in Kadiköy).
There are many nice restaurants and shops in the area. They are a bit more expensive than in other parts of the cities and not all are worth it, but on average you can find good food without having to go too far (with a few places of top quality, such as Antiocha).
The small bar in front of the building is very nice and serves quite good food, and there is a quite fascinating old books store in the basement.
Istanbul is a wonderful place to visit, we had a great time in the main touristic places (Topkapi, cistern, the main mosques, ...) as well as in many nice areas such as Kadiköy on the Asian side. The people are mostly welcoming and we hope we will be able to return there in a near future.
Underground funicular only 2 minutes walk away.
We understand the importance of location and this is our apartments are in Galata. With its genuine, very welcoming community and intriguing mix of cafes, restaurants, small grocery shops and artistic boutiques, we think it’s the most interesting part of Istanbul. No matter where you wander, you will always find your way back to Galata Tower, which has been a well-loved landmark for the last 700 years.
