Wonderful piece of paradise

spent the most glorious week here with our family, to celebrate our parents 50th Wedding anniversary and a birthday - so hard to leave this little pice of paradise - a real hideaway indeed - such a great week in the sunshine and gorgeous house - great family home, filled with everything you need - books, pool toys, amazing tree house which our kids adored - fabulous pool and sun beds for lots of sunbathing and relaxing - this house was everything it was described to be and more and such lovely owners - great communication and helpful with local information etc. Really recommend this house for a relaxing, happy family holiday, just wish we had booked 2 weeks!

Bliss

After a family South of France wedding we arrived at St Come elated but exhausted........it was like arriving in our own (well for a week)piece of paradise. The house was nicer than I had expected - somewhat shabby chic, very comfortable beds and everything we needed in the kitchen, which was great as we ate in a lot, by choice. The weather was very hot and the pool was much used by children and adults, perfect size for a little swimming and playing. We ate all of our meals in the charming outdoor/indoor terrace. We had a great time would love to go back and properly explore this beautiful area.

Charming stone villa with modern living!

Our two young sons (who both love to swim) enjoyed a week's stay at Mahystre located near St. Come. Clean and well maintained, the kitchen had a full sized refrigerator and plenty of storage for food! A great kitchen for those who enjoy cooking! The pool was clean and the lounge chairs were cozy - also the option of getting shade from the umbrellas - thanks for having those as well. The owners provided some blow up pool floaties and we relaxed in the hammock, ate all meals on the outside (shaded) terrace. St. Come was a short walk from the house (although the cars are driving very fast so just had to be careful with the kids) but a quick bike or drive away (2Km) was Calvisson, which offered wonderful choices of pastries and a market, pub, cafe open for breakfast! The owners were wonderful in communicating with us before the trip as well as providing a detailed listing of where to go (nearest and best beaches - thanks for that lovely suggestion!) where to eat along with telephone numbers to make reservations! Since we had five adults and five children, we had most of our meals at the house and drove to Arles for lunch (one of my most memorable day trips), Pont du Gard was a quick drive, too, and of course we spent an easy day at the beach. Beautiful home with modern decor, completely stocked kitchen (French press coffee - YAY!), pool, views and more. When you dream of staying in 'that' French country house with the shudders and the ivy...this is the special home of your dreams. Did I mention the petanque?

A dream home

I would recommend this beautiful property to anyone. We had a truly magical time and after 20 years of renting holiday properties, this was the closest to home from home we have ever stayed in. We didn't want to leave after a fantastic week making the most of this wonderful region, canoeing, delicious local food and wine, beaches... All in all a perfect holiday was had by all and we can't wait to go back!

Mas de Mahystre

We were celebrating our anniversary with our whole family of varying ages so wanted somewhere that was both large yet hospitable. We were certainly not disappointed with Mas de Mahystre. .Large enough to cater for us all, cosy and friendly and clean. The swimming pool with the accompanying toys and large rubber rings provided lots of fun and laughter , especially for the adults ! The terrace in the evening provided the perfect setting for meals and drinks and watching the sunsets. The children adored the tree house and spent ages playing there. The surrounding villages are lovely and we were there for the annual local bull run , very interesting. For us , it was a totally perfect family holiday.

Family Fun

As a family with three generations including a four month and ten month baby and a two and a half year old child we needed a property with a relaxed atmosphere and the Mas de Mahystre really did provide that for us. The practical floors and decor meant we did not have to worry about the odd spill and the garden was private and safe for the children. The tree house was a great hit with the two and a half year old although grandad had to spend rather more time there than he had planned! For the adults the local markets and Cave Cooperative were great hits. There was also plenty to do without long journeys and the local villages (the three Cs) as we called them were very attractive. We did not eat out much as the cooking facilities were excellent and so was the lovely shady patio with the table. For anyone who has not been to the area before, Nimes, Uzes, Anduze and the Corniche de Cevennes and the Pont du Gard are all easily reached and the Carmargue and coast are not too much further. We love this area and it was great to find such a characterful property so well placed.

Wonderful family vacation

Last summer my family and I enjoyed a wonderful two weeks at this home which was full of the character and flavor of France we so love. Sipping rose with a novel on the terrace while our daughters swam away the afternoon was a wonderful way to spend our lazy days. When we were feeling more like being out and about we had many, many wonderful day trips to nearby markets, scenic villages, nature and archeological sites. We were also lucky enough to enjoy a weekend of local music in conjunction with a national festival. The people of St. Come were very welcoming and gracious. On one of our last days we took a breath-taking horse back ride through the hills and grapevines surrounding the nearby hamlet. Last but not least, the owners are very gracious and accommodating and were a pleasure to rent from. Not to be missed!

The perfect house......

We had a wonderful time at St Comes. Two grandparents, four parents, three children ranging in age from two and a half to eight weeks. The house surpassed our expectations in every way - the photos on the website do not do it justice. Every detail was thoughtful, elegant yet simple and comfortable. It felt warm, friendly and generous (ie lovely sheets and books, lots of games, toys, great sunbeds, comfortable beds, lots of space, and - delight of delights in July - an ice-making fridge! My personal best bit was walking down the curved staircase each morning and looking out of the hall window to a stunning view. You'll know what I mean if you ever see it! The toddler lived in the pool; the adults among us enjoyed long lazy evenings on the verandah. Too good to be true? Not at all! Take my advice, go for two weeks..it was really very hard to leave after just one! We made trips to the coast and The Camargue, nearby towns and of course, Intermarche which is very big and superbly stocked. If the opportunity arose, we would all go back like a shot.

A week in the south of France with kids

Beautiful traditional French manor house every bit as good as the pictures, lovely pool and garden and the tree house was popular with the kids. Great kitchen, fridge with ice & iced water dispenser a big hit. Easy arrangements. Great for a large/two families. All in all highly recommended - only travel time to attractions drops a star (for us)! Surrounded by fields, beautifully quiet with lovely traditional French villages although most facilities a little too far to walk for the less hardy(2km) but great for bikes. Kayaking and river swimming in the Gardon highly recommended - it's the best way to see the Pont du Gard. The tree adventure park on outskirts of Nimes on the D127 Route de Poulx small calm and fun for all ages (open every day in summer). Seaside at la Grande Motte 40 mins is fun but busy. Most sights at least 40 mins drive but the pool welcomes your return! You can travel direct to Avignon (1 hour away) by Eurostar on summer Saturdays.

Beautiful

We had a fantastic family holiday in this beautiful house. There was space and comfort and the owners have obviously tried to think of everything. The accommodation was excellent with plenty of bedding, pillows and towels. There was even some wood left to light the open fire in the dining room as the nights were still cool. We will definitely return.

A perfect holiday home!

My husband and I stayed here with friends (including their 2 young girls) for a week in June 2012. Arriving at Mas de Mahystre you are struck by his beauty. It is a stunning French Mas which has been beautifully cared for. The feeling of space and tranquility is perfect for relaxing in and as it has been a family home for many years, it just works as a house to live in for a week or two. The outside is fabulous. The beautiful swimming pool perfect to cool down in after a sunbathe, a game of boules, a BBQ or a climb in the tree house! The bedrooms are beautiful and spacious, plenty of room for lots of children or a couple of families. Even the sheets and towels are sumptuous. The surrounding area is great for exploring. Nimes and Montpellier a must for eating, shopping and cafe culture! The beach isn't far either and if it look on the owner's blog, there is masses of info on everything. Thank you for a lovely stay, we will be back!

My husband Neil works in IT when he is not drawing and painting. I dabble in the world of communications and voice overs and have recently qualified as a Hatha yoga teacher, after 25 years of yoga practice. When we are not in St Come, we live in Brighton and have three young adult children.

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with Mas de Mahystre because of the beauty and originality of the house, as well as the tranquil setting. And yet the historic city of Nimes and the vibrant city of Montpellier are so close, not to mention the stunning Mediterranean beaches and the Cevennes. We are the only English family in the village and we love the traditional French way of life. We feel very lucky to have discovered a special, unspoiled corner of the south of France which is easily accessible by plane, train or car.

What makes this property unique

Our house is fabulous for large families, two families together or groups. It is light and spacious and has all the charm of an 18th century country house, coupled with all the conveniences of modern life. The garden has a gorgeous pool, lovely views, shady terrace for long meals, secret corners and even a treehouse. We provide luxury quality sheets, towels and even pool towels and your beds will be made for your arrival. It is a perfect house to relax, unwind and have fun.
