Villa in Marmelete, Monchique, Algarve, Portugal - Quiet Village Yet 30 Mins To Numerous Beaches
About Roger Kalsi
My wife and I are both busy people with full time jobs and wanted somewhere we could regularly enjoy with family which wasn't too far from London. The Algarve is perfect with great weather most of the year and approx.2 hours away from London. Being in full time work means we can't have as many holidays yet as we would like therefore many weeks are available for letting .
Roger Kalsi purchased this Villa in 2010
Why Roger Kalsi chose Marmelete
My wife and I came for a short holiday and to see our resident friends in the Algarve in 2010 and fell in love with the country. We decided to look for a suitable villa immediately and found something perfect. The villa was built by a Scottish gentleman over 40 years ago providing some breathtaking scenery around the property ,which we lovingly renovated over the follwing year to a very high standard. It is situated in beautiful quite village within the Monchique mountains with local cafes. The main town of Monchique is only 20 mins. away providing more upmarket restaraunts .The beaches are not far away either ,Alje-zur only half an hour away and the south coast with Albufera and Vilamoura about 45 mins drive .Golf lovers like me will find several beautiful courses within easy reach
What makes this Villa unique
The villa has been updated with modern A/C units which provide cooling and heating and are available for each room if desired. A good size swimming pool has also been modernised and pool heater is also available. Lovers of outdoor eating will love the large barbecue area adjacent to the poolside with plenty of entertaining space for a large party. The villa accommodation is arranged over two floors providing a total of 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms including an en-suite .The two floors are independent and self-contained therefore providing flexibility depending on the size of your family. The villa can therefore cater for 1 or a party of 10 .

Very nice break away from the hustle and bustle
Wonderful setting - beautifully peaceful - lovely views - good cheap local food.
Only issues - beds very hard - no Wi-Fi and pool cold on arrival as not covered.
Laila was wonderful!
Accommodates 6 - 8 people, not more
I should start by saying that if I had booked this villa for 6 or even 8 people, I would give it a 5-star review. There are 4 comfortable bedrooms, with comfortable sleeping arrangements for 8 people, however the dining table seats 6 and the living room seats 4. We were a group of 9 and this place is too small for that many people.
The views are spectacular, the pool is wonderful, and the house is quite well-equipped. Raj was very responsive and the local property manager who met us was friendly and helpful.
We booked this place needing 5 bedrooms, and the 5th bedroom was unusable. It is downstairs, accessible by a separate entrance. When the property manager opened the door to the bedroom, we were hit with an overwhelming smell of must and mould as if it had been a storage area for a long time and had just been opened up. There is no window in the room, however there is an attached bathroom which has a very small window.
For the first few days, we left the bathroom window open and the outside door open all day, hoping that the room would air out. It did not. In addition, the mattress of the bed (actually a futon sofa) smells very musty / mouldy even after we put it in direct sunlight during the day for several days.
We were 9 people and really needed the 5th bedroom so we asked Raj to come up with a solution. We had 1 person sleeping on an air mattress on the floor, which we hoped was temporary, until the room aired out, but it never did.
Raj was friendly, and initially said he would bring in another twin bed into the main house, but that didn't pan out. Then he asked us to bring the futon upstairs. There isn't room for it anywhere but the mattress still smelled very bad. After that he stopped trying to help us. He said things like "don't let this ruin your holiday" -- of course it didn't, but this place should not be advertised as 5 bedrooms. It is a wonderful 4 bedroom villa.
Also it should be noted that it does not have a working washing machine.
Thanks Madeline your points have been noted , we have had up to 12 people stay at the villa when they are a bit more flexible. No complaints from anyone so far. The 5th bedroom has been improved .
Beautiful peaceful villa with amazing views
We have just spent a lovely family week in the villa with our 2 young children (aged 4 and 1). The villa was perfect for us, clean and tidy with plenty of space and everything we needed (apart from a highchair but that was our fault for not checking beforehand). Both the owner and local manager were very helpful before and during our stay.
The views from the villa are outstanding and can be appreciated from inside the villa, sitting on the cool veranda or from the pool. We used the pool everyday in the morning and late afternoons and can imagine you could spend all day there with older children or a group of adults.
The location is perfect for exploring the western Algarve and both the south and western coasts. We also ate in some fantastic restaurants in the local area.
Overall it was an amazing holiday and I'd thoroughly recommend the villa.
Stunning villa with fantastic views
Having arrived late at night, Raj organised a local friend to meet us to ensure we found the villa and were fine. Very sweet of him. We woke up fresh and admired the stunning views from outside in the pool area. The villa is very comfortable, accommodates very well and has everything you need. We relaxed daily by the pool sunbathing and enjoyed some local walks nearby. The local restaurants are fabulous and very cheap which we were pleased about. We did also pick up local produce to BBQ with in the evening as the villa accommodates very well for this with that view to dine over. We absolutely loved the villa!! A very memorable stay and we most certainly want to return. You couldn't ask for more, stunning villa, fantastic pool, beautiful views, lovely sunshine together with good food and wine. Rui and Sandra too were very helpful. Knowing you have someone to call if you need any advice on anything is reassuring. Thank you so much, a perfect stay for us!!! 👌🏽🙌🏼😄
Wonderful Villa - Can't wait to return!
This villa is amazing and offers the most spectacular views that simply take your breath away. The tranquillity helps you to truly unwind and relax. The pool was inviting and the pool heater meant that even in May the children could swim happily all day.
Having access to English TV was a pleasant surprise too, this kept the children happy and meant we could all chill out in the evening after our long al fresco BBQ's. Being quite rural, it is wise to have a car and there are good places to eat out nearby. As other reviews have stated, the local food is great and the value unbelievable! We met friends, who were holidaying further away in Vilamoura, and they were paying double, if not treble, the amount that we were in restaurants. It adds to the happiness of the holiday when you can eat out without breaking the bank! A fantastic and truly relaxing holiday, the villa and views made it very special and the owner was helpful from the outset. We can't wait to return.
Beautiful five bedroom villa with stunning views.
This was our first visit to Portugal it certainly will not be our last. This villa made our stay perfect in every way views that take your breath away, tranquil location. Very pretty villa spotlessly clean. The heated pool and bar-be-cue area was everything you would want. The children spent all day in the pool and were often too tired to go out in the evening so we bar-be-cued two or three times a week enjoying the fresh produce and wine from the local shops.Other nights were spent at the local restaurants where we were made very welcome with prices very reasonable.
Rui and Sandra were on hand for any problems I am pleased to say there were none.Raj the owner had briefed us on directions, restaurants etc. and very generously told us to treat the villa as our home.
We will definitely return to this lovely villa sometime in the future.
Special interest holidays:

Well situated to prove a quiet and relaxing break. Plenty of walking and sight seeing all around. For when you want a change from your private pool, the beaches are all 30 / 45 mins drive including the famous Al-jezur, Meia Praia, Praia da Rocha, Praia da Luz, Praia do Burgau, Praia do Martinhal and Praia da Bordeira.
Villa is approximately 1 hour 15 mins away from Faro airport. Numerous car hire companies are available within the airport complex.
2 min drive to local village shops / cafes and bank. The picturesque town of Monchique is only 15 mins away with endless shops and restaurants.
There are numerous small restaurants within walking distance. Monchique Town has a daily covered market and a small supermarket. A network of walks and bike trails are present from the villa. A small zoo mainly for breeding threatened species is close by (10Km).
