About this property

A taste of Scandinavia in the Scottish West Highlands

Dalriada Lodge is a cosy Nordic eco-friendly log house which is the perfect location for a relaxing or action-packed break at any time of year.

Even boasting a traditional Norwegian grass roof and Scandinavian sauna, the house is incredibly comfortable and well equipped, and surrounded by some of the most stunning scenery in Scotland. Learn the true meaning of Hygge as you share the cosy atmosphere with loved ones - play board games, read books, watch movies, go for scenic walks, play table tennis, relax in the sauna or by the fire. Dalriada is not part of a holiday complex, but sits on its own in an acre of enclosed garden and woodland, including a charming stream. Located just a few hundred metres from the water, it has lovely views across Loch Awe and the magnificent mountain, Ben Cruachan. The vaulted ceiling and large open-plan living and dining room gives a lovely sense of light and space, as you gaze out at the views or enjoy the blazing log fire. Dalriada has been called "quirky - in a really good way", which we take as a great complement.

All on one level, it is ideal for people with mobility problems.

The area offers something for everyone – wonderful wildlife, walking, fishing, shooting, horse riding and sightseeing. Boat-hire and launch facilities are 10 minutes away.

Perfect Property
The lodge was perfect for an outdoor family like us with dogs. Location is quite remote but that's what we like. We'd advise going stocked up with food and drink before going. there is a pub within walking distance with pub food and a great pool table. Meals were after 6pm. The lodge was very comfortable with everything you need. Having the sauna was fantastic especially after a long day out. There is a lot do do around the area but do expect to drive here and there. Check in and communication was really easy. Kristine the host is very helpful. Whether you like going out on walks, canoeing, wild swimming of just staying in by the wood burner with a good film, this lodge will cater for you. We would definitely go back and recommend to others.

Perfect Christmas get away
Fantastic lodge close to Loch Awe, stayed for Christmas week, and it was wet and cold outside but warm and cosy inside. Loads of eating, drinking, reading and playing board games by the log burner. Very well equipped lodge, properly supplied with the little things like dishwasher tablets and toilet roll! Kids (adult kids) enjoyed the sauna. We even had a 24 hour power outage due to storm Gerrit, but it didn’t matter as we were warm by the fire and had plenty of candles, plus the Christmas dinner leftovers! Perfect stay. Would definitely return and recommend to others.

Fantastic Retreat
Love Love Love this place. This was our second visit here. If you want to get away from it all, relax, do some walks and see fantastic scenery than this is the place. Thos time we had lots of beautiful wildlife in the garden including a big halk, red squirrel, Pine Marten oh and a heard of sheep lol. Recommend Inveraray for sites and little town with pubs and cafes(11 miles away). Oban bugger town is about 30 mikes away, again very nice. There is a hotel down the road tou can get some beer and food, alittle basic but nice and cosy. Kris the host is brilliant, communication is perfect. Highly recommend this perfect little retreat. Definitely will be staying again. Dave

Dalriada Lodge
We had a great week at Dalriada Lodge and were very satisfied. Even when we had some rainy days we enjoyed the entire environment, had different trips by foot, car and boat / ferry and visited some spectacular places. And we loved it to stay and relax at the cozy lodge. All in all a great week, thank you Kris!

About the host

Host profile image
Kristine Cunningham is half Norwegian and spent her childhood there, with many holidays in lodges just like Dalriada. The chance to buy a property like this for the family to use, complete with grass roof and water and mountain views, was just too tempting. Since it was first rented out for holidays at the beginning of 2012, the many lovely families, groups and couples who have stayed there seem to agree that it has a unique, cosy and comfortable atmosphere. A real home from home.
