A quiet country stay
We enjoyed our two plus weeks at this lovely typical Quinta in the heart of the orange tree, olive tree countryside above Tavira. The two foot thick stone walls meant that the house was always quiet and cool. We had daily visits from two of the neighbour's five dogs! It was lovely to pick a fresh lemon for our drinks! Most of the beautiful sites around the Faro/Tavira area were a short drive away. We also enjoyed walks around the countryside. Lots of choices for groceries and supplies were easy to drive to. The house was well equipped and spacious…..three bedrooms and two large bathrooms, with a nice large living area and best of all, a wood burning stove which was most welcome as the weather during our stay was unseasonably wet! I would recommend to the hosts that a sign on the gate of the Quinta , or to let guest know the security number on the gate would have made it a bit easier to find. Our hosts were very easy to deal with and responded quickly to any questions we had! Overall, a great stay in a beautiful part of the world!

A Terribly Misleading Property Description
The listing stated that the property had a heating system as well as a fireplace. In fact, it only had a fireplace (to heat the living room) and a small electric heater, which barely heated the master bedroom. There was NO heating in the other two bedrooms, or the two bathrooms, and they were all miserably cold. To heat the living room, logs were provided, but we were told to gather our own kindling outside, cleaning up the fallen wood from the host's estate. Another major deception in the listing was the clear claim that the house contained a clothes dryer. This claim was presented with a pictogram depicting a clothes drying machine. There was no such machine on the premises. When we asked the owner where the drying machine was, he said it was the clothesline hanging outside in the yard. In addition, we found the property cluttered in virtually every room with the host's private clothing, shoes, and other items. For example, a large number of shoes had been shoved under the bed in the master bedroom. The chests of drawers also contained a great deal of host property. We were supposed to stay the entire month of February. We left after three days. We do wish to note that, in the end, VRBO was very helpful in refunding our money. Before we got our refund, however, we had to argue our way past the initial customer service contact.

The best of 2 worlds
Our stay was exactly what we were expecting - a beautiful farm house in a quiet place with lots of space and everything we need in the house to have a wonderful holiday time. First of all I have to say that Mark is super friendly and helpful in every way. Answering fast to any message and giving lots of little tips to improve stay, regarding the house itself and what to visit or see near and around. He keeps a little handwritten book in the table draw with lots of helpful information that he and previous guests discover and help. Then about the house – when I search for a house like this I am not asking or searching for an hotel or villa with perfect green areas and fancy gardens and all shining and sparkling. This is a rural farm house with a huge area with lots of trees in the outside with a lovely huge umbrella and wooden seats and tables where you can have dinner at night and chat and have a drink with your family and friends and absolutely no sound of cars or people, only dogs barking far or other far voices from other rural houses in the area. A lovely backspace with a huge charcoal grill and seats to take you night gin or beer looking at the thousands of stars you can see because the low light pollution. Kitchen has literally everything and more you need to cook what you might think off. House decoration has that touch of a real house where real people live that makes you feel comfortable and cozy. Only think I can think off that some might feel the need in hotter nights is air conditioner, but with the thick and well isolated walls and open windows with insect protections and indoor fans its easy to get use to Algarve temperature at night. So if you are looking for this kind of experience you will be in the right place, if you want all inclusive luxury and feel then you should be going to an resort or hotel. I will surely repeat next year if I go to Algarve. Thank you Mark for allowing us to share your beautiful home.

We are retired teachers with a love of Portugal spanning forty years and have lovingly restored this old farmhouse over the last few years. We hope you will be come and visit and able to enjoy a little bit of paradise in the Algarvian sunshine!
This is a family home and is well stocked, comfortable, cosy and welcoming for families or couples.
The area and coastal towns are essentially Portuguese by nature and we would suggest you hire vehicle to do justice to this stunning area.

Why they chose this property

We love how unspoilt and characterful Eastern Algarve is and find local people very friendly and charming. The house is peaceful yet accessible to all of the wonderful sights of the Algarve - beaches a plenty and lots of fantastic traditional restaurants to enjoy fresh seafood etc.

Local people are very friendly and the bars and shop in the village are very handy as is nearby Tavira, a very historical and charming seaside town, with lots of things to do and see. Tavira is considered to be " the jewel of the Algarve" by many travel guides

What makes this property unique

If you are looking for relaxation and a rural hideaway this is your best bet! A short walk from local village bars and a well-stocked shop and a few minutes from St Estevao - try 'O Forno' or 'Luis dos Prego' restaurants nearby for delicious authentic Portuguese cuisine. Ideal for cycling in the National Park Rio Formosa and local rural lanes and tracks, marvellous setting for birdwatching/ nature
Not over looked and secluded and fully fenced with own bore hole
