About Marcia Lawrence
We enjoy the outdoor life especially walking, cycling and exploring historic sights. The surrounding area has these activities. We have also made some good friends locally and we do our best to catch up with them when we are there.
Marcia Lawrence purchased this Cottage in 2003
Why Marcia Lawrence chose La Livinière
We as a family enjoy the outdoor life. The area is not only steeped in Cathar history but there are many outdoor activities within the area. It is a great place to get away from the stresses of every day life to support this there is no wifi, and telephone. Mobile reception is OK. It is within one hours drive of the nearest airport (Carcassonne) and approximately one hour to the Mediterranean sea.
What makes this Cottage unique
We have a fabulous rural view from our terrace with the Pyreness in the background. Most areas are typically French and its lovely to enjoy their way of life. There are tourists spots nearby Canal du Midi, Homps, Carcassonne Castle.

Great place to stay
Fabulous views over the Corbieres and Pyrenees. Lovely pool. Friendly horses. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
The perfect holiday home for two young families
Our party consisted of two families with children aged nine, nine, six and six. The house is very secluded and provides wonderful privacy.
As a base for exploring the area, it could not be better.
The house is lovely, with Its greatest assets being the swimming pool and outside dining area.
Younger families may struggle with unenclosed swimming pool and steep staircases, but for our children it worked perfectly.
We could not recommend this house more highly. We were particularly grateful for the very comfortable beds, lovely dining area and a super living room.
The house is surrounded by breath taking views with historic towns nearby. Minerve for example is one of the top ten villages to see in France. It's a great place to explore for the day. The town is perched over the meeting of two rivers and these rivers tunnel through deep gorges.
For excellent dining eat at Michelin rated Restaurant Relais Chantovent, reserve for a table on the new wide terrace with lovely views over the river gorge.
17 grand rue, Minerve. 04 68 91 14 18.
Carcassonne Castle is a great day out. We strongly advised to arrive as soon as it opens to enjoy the 'Cite' before the tourist buses arrive.
Lastours are castle ruins which are fun to explore. The history of the Cathar crusades roughly in the 13 Century is rife in the Languedoc area.
Another great place to explore is Gorge d'Heric. The path at the bottom of the Héric Canyon leads to a landscape featuring rock formations where there are great picnic spots, swimming and just watch the world go by. We were amazed by the track which is concreted and can take a buggy. The last part of the track is harder with a buggy but it's very worthwhile. One can buy a drink if you wish at the top.
These stunning gorges form part of the Massif du Caroux and are highly-prized by hardened rock-climbers. Its 600 equipped routes could have been made with rock climbers in mind. The area is dotted with waterfalls and chasms overlooked by cliffs that can reach 600 metres, and in the height of summer, their naturally cool temperature is very welcoming. Hiking and fishing enthusiasts will enjoy the beauty of these landscapes.
We recommend a beach called St Pierre-sur-Mer. It is a long sandy beach where the locals go to. It is located just north of Narbonne-Plage and will take just over an hour to get there. There is also evening entertainment for teenagers to go to whilst parents can enjoy restaurants close by.
There are countless places to explore including Canal du Midi. We like to go to Homps to enjoy a drink and a bite to eat. Although a small tourist spot, it is very scenic with the Canal running though the town. Bikes can be hired to ride along the canal.
There are many vineyards nearby and we are lucky to have an organic 'Cave' just across the road from the house - Domaine Monts et Morveilles. ENJOY!
