About Alec Welham
We moved to Long Marston in late spring 2014 to pursue a self-sufficient lifestyle in the country. As avid gardeners we grow as much fruit and veg' as we can fit on the land. We have won many awards for our vegetables including the National Vegetable Society Championships at Harrogate in September 2015 and 2016. We also have hand- reared ducks, chickens and turkeys in our garden.

Why Alec Welham chose York
The Cottage is set in beautiful rural surroundings in the heart of North Yorkshire just 6 miles from the City of York. Built on the historic site of the Battle of Marston Moor with rolling countryside in every direction. The main cottage originally dates back to 1644 and maintains the original charm of this period. Although the self-contained apartment was built as part of an extension centuries later, its features sympathetically reflect the style of the house.
What makes this Apartment unique
The property is ideally situated in the small village of Long Marston, 5 miles from the A1 M and the historic market town of Wetherby. Myself & my husband had a fantastic time visiting our daughter for the weekend. Alec & Christine were very friendly and explained the area history very well. The accommodation itself was perfect for us and our springer spaniel! So peaceful after busy days out & about. Will definitely be using again when we visit our daughter. Thanks both for a perfect trip.
We are pleased you enjoyed your stay. The flat is so handy for York and yet so peaceful. Hope to see you back soon with your spaniel soon.
We would definitely rent this property again when we come to York. It was cosy and comfortable with a great shower! Quiet, yet only seven miles from York. Lovely views over farmland. Owners warm, friendly and helpful. Would certainly recommend a stay here!
Lovely little flat on the edge of Marston Moor
The location is excellent. On a very quiet lane, overlooking farmland on Marston Moor - the Civil War battlefield, a very historic place. The well appointed accommodation is cosy and attractive and has everything needed for a comfortable stay. The owners live next door and are very friendly and helpful.
Long Marston is a small village with only a pub, the Sun Inn, but it is a good pub. Friendly, decorated with Civil War pictures and memorabilia. It serves good quality food at a very reasonable price. We ate there several times in the few days we stayed and we very pleased with it.
If you are looking for accomodation in the area, and like the peace and quiet of a friendly village, we recommend it highly
A short stay in york
We had a lovely 2 night stay - Alec and Christine were very friendly and even allowed my 2 children to visit their chickens!
Couldn't fault the flat - plenty of room, fantastic shower, good cooking facilities. We took our dog Bella along and found a dog cage, bedding and towel for her.
Would happily return again.
Very pleased with the accommodation, good space for us as we are a family of 5, we found it very clean and tidy, it was all the little extra that they thought of that made it very welcoming, would definitely recommend 😊.
Christine and Alex were very welcoming and helpful after a long drive. Fresh eggs available from Christine were a real treat at breakfast time! Property had everything we needed as a family of 3. Christine kindly brought some teddy bear friends and a little wooden chair for our son to play with. The bears were a big hit! We visited the local pub, only a 2 minutes walk away for Sunday dinner when we arrived and sat out in their large garden which was great for our little boy to run around in. The property is located well for exploring York, Harrogate, Scarborough and beyond. We had lots more to see and do but sadly we couldn’t squeeze it all in! We will hopefully be back again soon to explore the area more.
A good time for all. Hope to see you back soon.
