Jan Miller purchased this Cottage in 2001
Why Jan Miller chose Lyme Regis
After very enjoyable holidays in Lyme Regis with our children when they were small, we were lucky enough to buy Valentine Cottage, instantly falling in love with its quirky charm. We used it as our main family holiday destination for many years, and it's a real delight to see our children, now young adults, regularly stay in the cottages and enjoy them as much as we have always done. We still stay whenever we can, to enjoy Lyme Regis and the coastline. But also to check first-hand that the cottages are remaining up to the standards that we ourselves expect. The story behind the cottages is interesting, and there is an historic Indenture framed and hung in Silver Cottage which describes some of it. Both cottages have a transcription of this document in their Visitors Packs. The transcript was produced by John Fowles during his time as Curator at the Lyme Regis Museum. He was clearly interested in the history of the cottages enough to take the time to work on the document, and we're very grateful to have this historic manuscript. Valentine Cottage and Silver Cottage were once one much larger property until the 1920s when the owner decided to divide them into two separate properties, with Silver Cottage ending up with 3 bedrooms, and Valentine Cottage having 2. If you stay in Valentine Cottage, you'll see that what it lacks in size (compared with the larger Silver Cottage), it makes up for in charm and inventiveness to utilise all available space, as well as being a very competitive priced holiday rental option.
What makes this Cottage unique
We like to think that the cottages are unique because they're next door to each other, which makes them a great option for larger family groups. They're also both close to the seafront, and exclusively for Valentine Cottage, for any new enquiries from 18th March 2019 onwards, you will have free access to our Beach Hut on the seafront as part of your new booking. The Beach Hut is equipped with beach furniture, picnic-ware, and beach toys.

The cottage is a beautiful little building, very well contained and for its very old age it is very well maintained and decorated.
It is located, a literal, stones throw from two "express" supermarkets and the main town centre and a 5 minute downhill walk to the beach front. There is an amazing independent coffee shop right next door to it but with this central location comes quite a lot of evening noise from night time revellers and their way back home or to the Indian restaurant just a few doors up the hill..
There is also a lot of light pollution (keeping our young kids awake through the curtains) from the buildings opposite and the street lights but this was solved very easily by putting the provided blankets up ovr the curtains using pegs, or if you have them take a blackout blind.
The cottage has all the mod-cons you would hope for and is very warm. a good selection of books and dvds on hand for the kids (and adults) should you have wet days/evenings like we did.
Overall I would recommend this property whole heartedly.. a great October half-term break!
I'm so pleased to get your lovely review Adam. I'll definitely have blackout linings in place ready for the 2020 season. They're on the 'to-do' list.
Tiny but great
Overall excellent - instructions for using the bath would be helpful
Life’s a beach hut!
Good, well equipped little cottage. It is snug but that was expected given the details on the listing. It was a bit of a pain having to take own bed linen and towels. For us, it was all about the beach hut which was fabulous and did not disappoint in any way. Lyme Regis itself was beautiful and great for the children. We had a lovely few days there.
I'm so pleased you loved your time in Lyme and to hear you agreed with us that the cottage is well equipped.
The beach hut certainly adds something special to everyone's stay no matter what kind of holiday or time of year and indeed weather. I'm sure your children will be bugging you to return soon. Even out of season!
We've got some lovely bedlinen and towels to co-ordinate with the cottage decor which are available to hire for a separate modest charge if booked in advance. They're currently not a standard part of the hire fee, so that guests preferring to bring their own and keep their costs down, have that standard option also.
Valentine cottage was lovely - there were 4 of us and we had plenty room. It was clean and had some lovely finishing touches. The beach hut was a great addition to our holiday. We’ll stay again.
Cute, cosy and clean!
Right in the centre of Lyme Regis. Would have given five stars if it weren't for some drastic plumbing problems at the end of our stay. With problems sorted as I'm sure they will be we'd be happy to stay there again.
Very pleasant stay had good weather. Accomodation was very charming the house was clean throughout. Cottage is in an excellent position just off the high street easy walk to shops and beach.
Valentine and Silver Cottages are situated a quick 5 minute walk to the Marine Parade beach, and a 10 minutes walk from the famous Cobb harbour and its sandy beach. The beaches can be accessed through Langmoor Gardens for a gentle walk with views of the Cobb and seascape.
If you intend to be on the beach for extended time, then you might want to consider hiring our Beach Hut for hire which can be a great base on the sea front, fully equipped with deck chairs, table, picnic essentials and beach toys.
