Why Carolyn Coe chose Pahoa
I'm from Alaska. I love both Alaska and Hawaii. What could be more interesting than the 49th and 50th states. They share beautiful scenery. Awesome bodies of water (Pacific Ocean, Prince William Sound, Cook Inlet, rivers). Alaska is a bit colder and I wanted a place to vacation and eventually live that is free of snow and ice. So I may snowbird. This house is beautiful, restful, and the ocean is awesome no matter the weather.
What makes this House unique
Travelers will enjoy the quiet residential area. The lanai is my favorite feature of the house. There is outdoor furniture for enjoying meals, beverages and a place to read. It's fun taking photos from the lanai as you try to catch just the right wave! The view of the ocean is unobstructed. We have sunny days and rainy days. We have calm oceans and rougher oceans. Travelers will enjoy them all. The sunset is awesome. The clouds glide across the ski almost like a slow moving carousel. When it's dark, and on a clear night, the stars in the sky are awesome as well as the moon. The sunrise is not to be missed.

An amazing trip to Pahoa, Hawaii! The home was even better than the photos show online! We will definitely miss sitting out on the porch listening to the sound of the waves crashing.
Perfect oceanfront home.
Beautiful and comfortable home. The property manager greeted us, showed the house and reviewed the area and things to do. Great location. Everything we needed.
Beautiful waterfront near to many sights
The house was located in a quiet neighborhood overlooking the enchanting ocean. The furnishings were comfortable and the house very clean. It was well equipped with cooking needs, and had many extra supplies such as spices, cooking oil, plastic wrap, coolers, etc.
Upon our arrival, Melissa greeted us and went over the house etiquette. She provided us with maps and local insight about the area, sights to see, and how to access various points of interest. One of the best insights she provided was about the new local trail over the recent lava flows. We would never have known it was there, and the hike turned out to be one of the highlights of our!
The location of the house was near many restaurants and stores, including a grocery store. It was very peaceful to hear the ocean waves crashing over the rocks. Games and other amenities (beach chairs, umbrellas, etc. were provided for our enjoyment?
This house was a great place and did not disappoint us!
Great place to stay!
We had a great time at this property. Views are incredible and the house is top notch.
The property was clean and nicely appointed. Views of the ocean and coast were extraordinary. This is a wonderful location on the northeast coast. One negative, it is a little hot and humid this time of year, so without air conditioning the upstairs bedrooms were a bit uncomfortable in the evening and at night until they could cool off toward the morning. Otherwise, the perfect house for a Hawaiian Island stay.
Local experience, unbelievable views
We really enjoyed the Pahoa oceanfront house as a balance to our trip after spending 6 days in Kona. It was great to be in a more local area of the island - we found multiple very interesting hikes, many with small quaint beaches as part of them in the area using our “All trails” app. Kaleo’s local restaurant is fine dining in a small town. The house is beautiful and very well maintained, can’t get closer to the ocean and in a quaint neighborhood. There is a small grocery store in Pahoa 8 miles away. Close to Volcano National Park. Melissa is a wealth of knowledge and Carolyn provides you with an itinerary she uses with her friends and family for sightseeing in the area. Very positive experience.
There are many fun and interesting things to do on the Big Island. There is not enough space allocated here to list them all but here is a starter list:
Volcano National Park
Community pool (free)
Waterfalls (Akaka, Rainbow, Boiling Pots)
Hawaiian Vanilla Company (tour with or without lunch) Must reserve lunch. It's not a drop in place.
Hawaiian Mamaki Tea Farm
Flumin' Kohaha (kayak through irrigation ditches from closed sugar plantation).
Lyman Museum and Historic House
Onekahakaha Beach Park
Onomea Tea Company
There are many other fun and interesting things to do. Check out the travel guides online.
