About James and Beverly Cole
We both grew up in the central part of Michigan, and still live in the area. My husband, just recently retired, and handy with construction, did all of the remodeling in this home, with the help of me and our family. When it came to painting and decorating, I did most of it. We wanted to keep the cottage feel and decorated with that in mind. Being a lover of antiques, reusing, and repurposing, much of the decorating was done with "found items", refinished and up scaled! We still plan to use our place for our "Up North Getaway" on occasion and have blocked some weeks for our family.
James and Beverly Cole purchased this House in 2015
Why James and Beverly Cole chose Honor
We have camped in the Sleeping Bear area for almost 40 years. We loved all that the area has to offer from the time we started coming up here in the late 1970s, and on through the years when we brought our children and now grandchildren up. We had dreamed of someday owning a place in our favorite place in Michigan. Last year we contacted a realtor and began checking out places in the area. When we found this place, it had sat empty for almost 3 years. It was in disrepair and in bad need of some TLC! We have always loved a project, having built our own home and remodeling 2 others. This home drew us in as it offered room for our entire growing family! We knew we could put our own stamp on it to make it ours! We worked on it for about 9months, and added a game room in the pole barn with a pool table, darts and other fun things to do. This home sits right in the middle of an area rich in outdoor activities!
What makes this House unique
The fact that we can do the things we love in the area with our family and have room for them all to stay, have cozy gatherings around the fireplace, and drinks on the deck with friends has made this such an enjoyable place for us to spend time. All of the hard work and time we put into making it into the cozy, comfortable place it is now was more than worth it!

Comfortable and Kid Friendly
Our third summer vacation in this lovely home was our best yet. The owners are very welcoming and kind, and have done a wonderful job making the house and yard perfect for our three generations. The grandkids loved the swingset, and just running and playing in the yard. We enjoyed a fun outdoor meal, playing cornhole, and of course roasting marshmallows. We also had a beautiful day at the beach where the Platte River meets Lake Michigan. Our four year-old grandson said at breakfast on our last day, "I love the summer house!"
That’s great!! Happy your whole family enjoys it! We are thankful for our awesome return renters! Thanks for the nice review! Bev and Jim
Great up-north family vacation!
We had a great time again this year! Our family was easily accommodated in the multiple bedrooms and even had parking for a pop-up camper for our family from out of Michigan. We love coming up to the Frankfort, Empire, Traverse City area, and this home in Honor close to everything we love doing. Thanks again for sharing your wonderful home with us!
Happy we could accommodate your family! We appreciate your good review and yearly visits! Thanks! Bev and Jim
Such a great place to stay. Clean and comfortable and loved the game area and playground. We had a great time.
Fantastic family cottage
Our second stay for our extended family at this home. It is beautiful and very well kept up and clean. It has everything you would ever need for a great getaway to Michigan! The swing set, fire pit, barn with the pool table and old records, and the bags equipment are enough to keep you entertained without ever leaving the property. All of the outdoor activities of the Sleeping Bear National Park and this area are easily accessible. This is the best place we have stayed at in our eight years of coming to this area.
Thanks for the great review! We are happy to hear that you had a fun visit to Michigan and we would welcome you back again! Bev and Jim
This was our 3rd year in this cottage and we can't wait to return next year. A great place with lots of room and activities.....Everything you need is here!
The owners are very helpful and have done a great job in making their place comfortable. Thank you Bev!
This is our second time staying at Jim and Bev's oasis and it was just as amazing as the first. Everything was spotless and just as accommodating as we remember. They both respond so quickly to any questions and are so friendly and easy to work with! I can't wait until next time!
