About Catherine Stanley
Cedar Grove was purchased by Sidney and Catherine Stanley in 2015. Catherine is an interior designer and realtor, while Sid owns a home improvement business. They both live less than five minutes from Cedar Grove and have always loved the house. When it went on the market, they followed their impulse and bought it with the intention of restoring and outfitting it specifically for a vacation rental. Catherine currently manages two other properties in New Kent as vacation rentals. As New Kent is a great destination for travelers visiting Williamsburg, she saw the potential that Cedar Grove offered for vacationers and visitors to the area. She utilized her design talents to create a comfortable and relaxing retreat which offers many historical references in the character of an 18th C. Virginia Tidewater style home. Sid was the craftsman that performed the renovations. His craftsmanship is noticed throughout the house, from the lovely wood finishes and carpentry. The house was originally built in a primitive manner with crude joinery and simplistic details. Sid and Catherine purposefully preserved those details in order to celebrate it's original state, while only improving the areas that needed to be for safety and code reasons. Our guests will find enjoyment in seeing the dog paw prints in a couple of the original hand made 18th C. bricks of the hearths in the English basement and living room. Sid and Catherine are pleased to welcome our guests and provide genuine Virginia hospitality to ensure you are comfortable and all of your needs are met in order to ensure the best stay possible.

Why Catherine Stanley chose Lanexa
As New Kent natives, both with a passion for history and 18th C homes, Sid and Catherine simply could not pass on this home. The charm was undeniable and the proximity to Williamsburg made it a logical choice for a vacation rental. They wanted as many people as possible to be able to enjoy the charm of this darling colonial cottage as much as they enjoy the rare property.
What makes this Cottage unique
The most intriguing details of Cedar Grove is the quaint cottage size, authentic colonial architecture, rich handcrafted detail, and charming rural setting. It is truly like stepping back into the 18th C. while enjoying all of the conveniences of the 21st C. For the wine lover, Cedar Grove is just minutes away from Saude' Creek Winery, New Kent Winery, and Gauthier Winery. Williamsburg Winery and James River Wineries are less than 30 minutes away. If there is a golf fanatic in the family, there are five beautiful courses each less than 10 or 15 minutes away from the cottage. Royal New Kent, Brickshire, Viniterra, Brookwood, and Stonehouse are all public courses and each one is beautiful and challenging.

Quiet retreat with lots of room
The cottage had 2 common areas and 3 bedrooms and 3 baths which was great for the 5 of us. It is a good 25 minute drive to Williamsburg. But we also visited 2 nearby wineries. If you are attending an event at either winery this is the perfect place to stay. We had been in the Outer Banks and had to find another place to stay and we lucked out with this cottage.
Catherine was kind enough to let us stay here for our wedding weekend since we got married right up the road. The house was very clean and cozy, we felt right at home! The rooms are great size and the bathrooms are clean and up to date! I highly recommend staying here.
Thank you so much! I am so pleased that Cedar Grove was a part of your special day! I hope you made many special memories as you started your life as husband and wife.
Lovely vacation home. Everything was clean and spotless. Very relaxing environment and a short drive to Williamsburg and all the sights.
We rented the property to be closer to the church and reception venue for my daughter’s wedding. It was a great decision for us. The house was just like it was advertised and we loved it! Thank you!
The most perfect house!
If you are looking for a quaint spot with beautifully thought out touches, convenient to several great areas but still in a quiet setting, this is it! We happened upon this cottage while looking for a weekend location close to Cousiac Manor where my daughter's wedding was being held. The basement kitchen is fantastic, lots of space to chill out and chat while fixing a meal. The bedrooms and bathrooms are all well appointed and comfortable. Could not recommend this more heartily!
Perfect in every way!
This home exceeded our expectations in every way. It was clean, comfortable, well stocked with quality linens, paper products, modern televisions and appliances and kitchen supplies. The house is beautifully decorated and is full of authentic charm. The location is ideal because it is half way between Richmond and Williamsburg, which we frequented both during our stay. We even made it to Charlottesville and DC in a short time. The owners were great to work with also. Very easy to communicate with. Perfect stay and getaway of a lifetime!
Cedar Grove Cottage is located in Historic New Kent County, which is a bedroom community to Williamsburg and Richmond. New Kent is known for it's rural beauty, wineries, and golf. There are 3 award winning wineries, all within 10-15 minutes. There are five golf courses, the furthest only 15 minutes away. There are hiking and walking trails near by as well as two beautiful rivers that offer boating, kayaking, fishing, canoeing, and nature watching. The best feature of New Kent is it's quiet and rural natural beauty, yet it's proximity and convenience to Williamsburg, Yorktown, Jamestown, and Richmond, Charlottesville and Washington DC.
