About Mary Kraft
Settlers Mountain was created to share the wonderful Great Smoky Mountains with friends and family. What started as a personal retreat turned into a family enterprise. Bert and Mildred Kraft loved the mountains and its local people so they settled in Bryson City and built Settlers Mountain (circa 1959). Bert, being a very industrious person with the love of architecture, built the homes on the mountain and refurbished a hand-hewn chestnut log cabin built in the 1840's, one of only five left in the area. Settlers Mountain is owned and operated by the Kraft Family and is enjoyed by five generations of Kraft’s. We welcome you to make Settlers Mountain your retreat and create a lifetime of memories. The Kraft Family

Why Mary Kraft chose Bryson City
This property has 200 acres and yet near to town on paved roads. Very well maintained grounds that is wooded and quiet, close to all the action the area has to offer or just sit back and relax.
What makes this House unique
Named for the beautiful sunsets that can be seen right from the front porch, this secluded, private home was built for the matriarch of the Kraft Family, Florence Kraft, who was married to Husband Al for 65 years! It was said that just staying here will extend your marriage or maybe your family.

Tracie was wonderful! She greeted us when we arrived, escorted us to our cabin, and went over the minimal and easy house rules. She lives on the property so she was just a short call away if we needed anything - which we didn't; everything we needed was already provided!
Quiet getaway in a beautiful location; both the immediate area of the cabin and the region around Bryson City are absolutely stunning.
If you're in the area, make sure you make it to Deep Creek Nature Park just outside of downtown Bryson City; there are three lovely waterfalls that are easily accessible in this beautiful park.
We will be back.
Meh, the floor was a little dirty. My baby looked like a dirty mop after crawling around for 3 minutes. Other than that, no complaints. We enjoyed the quiet nature and overall experience.
Hi Tony, We pride ourselves in having a clean home for our guest. I am so sorry that there was resisudale on the floor. With our wood floors even though we vacuum and mop the floor between all guests a grim gets in the cracks. We have a machine that picks up the ground-in stuff on the wood floor. We needed to run that machine more often. Thanks for the heads up, we have already fixed the problem and ran the machine at the other homes as well. Glad you had a great stay.
If there ever were a plug and play vacation rental, this is it. Just add people and food and your good to go. Clean and well kept, can't think of a thing we would change. Lots to do in the area. Mark & Tracie ( the Caretakers) we called them another right hand, were ready, willing, and able anytime we needed them. We plan on returning.
Thanks for the nice review. We like sunset house a lot too. Mark and Tracie are a gem too.
This is our 3rd time to the property. It's always a pleasant stay!
Glad to have repeat customers. Hope to see you soon again.
This property is really what you want in a VRBO rental. Check in was effortless with a personal touch. The property managers were active in making sure our needs were met and that we knew they were accessible. I felt they respected that our vacation time was valuable and they let us know they were there for us without interrupting our trip. The location is excellent. I used the propane grill at the pavilion twice, it worked well and adequate grill tools were supplied. There was a charcoal grill at the cable too but I didn't use that. The value was great, there was even a library of VHS and DVDs that you could check out, which we did after our long days of intense physical activity. The kitchen was well supplied, and they were thoughtful enough to include a discount card to the local grocery store. We at breakfast at the cabin every morning, as well as some lunches and some dinners depending on our schedule. Its very convenient to Bryson City where we went tubing and trout pond fishing, and not too far from the Nantahala Outdoor center where we went zip lining. We hiked portions of the appalachian trail while we were there. The air conditioning was comfortable and the cabin was able to be colder than we wanted. The water for the shower was almost too hot, but, with teenagers you need a bit of hot water so I didn't mind. The community washer and dryer worked well and detergent was included. My son and I played with some of the yard games while we waited for our clothes to dry. Very comfortable, safe, super dark at night. We even saw fireflies. Would definitely recommend.
Carl you wrote a great review.. Thanks for taking the time and I can see you really enjoyed your stay. It's fun when you have perfect guests.
Relaxing and Fun
“Sunset” cabin was an easy process to rent. Also, easy access up the mountain. Not too steep. Cabin was awesome. Home away from home. It was clean, fully equipped, mattresses comfortable and nature at it’s best. Hummingbirds, cardinals, etc. we’re so much fun to watch on the front porch. Relaxing to rock and enjoy the beautiful views and nature at it’s best. We also enjoyed in Bryson City shopping, waterfalls, fishing, white water rafting and a beautiful 1st class train ride through the countryside with dinner, ride through the National Park with scenic views and visit Cherokee, Gatlinburg, and Pigeon Forge easily. So much to do.
Great, awesome review. So glad you had such a wonderful stay and hope you come back soon.
