71 Acre Nature Preserve with Cabin and Teahouse and Sauna

About Roger Heaton
After being in advertising in Chicago for 29 years, I am now fully focusing on land and habitat restoration on the 96 acre property. I love the look and feel of hand made that includes the cabin and gardens. No, i didn't build the cabin but it looks totally different from the cinderblock garage that we found 26 years ago. Every year I learn something new about the plants and animals that live there and that inspires me to help support them better. How and when I mow the fields to eradicating invasive plants keep me busy outside and on the move. After 26 years, I now love to have like minded guests experience the sights, sounds and smells of our retreat.
Why Roger Heaton chose Grand Junction
Being in Commercial Photography in Chicago for 29 years made it almost impossible to take a long having a retreat close by was the answer to preserve my sanity. There really is positive effect of being surrounded by nature. It takes about 24 hours but then you feel it and you realize how wound up you've been. We thought it was in the middle of nowhere but that was our ignorance of being in a rural setting. We purchased the 24 acre farm field next door to insure that progress is kept at bay.
What makes this Cabin unique
Ponds, Gardens, Walking Trails and a completely furnished Cabin to easily step into the natural setting you've dreamed of. The Teahouse Treehouse is a get away from the cabin so you can read or nap in the swinging beds alone. The Barrel Sauna and Glass Room turned out so much better than we even imagined. Our local builder found the huge glass panels and took our vision to the next level. Yet another great place to hang out in or get away from your fellow travelers.

Rustic Getaway in Paradise
The property and wildlife at this property are incredible and a rare treat. I never have seen so many birds and butterflies in such a short time as I did during my time here. Roger was a great host and you could tell he is passionate about the property and that he put a lot of TLC in creating a beautiful sacred place to connect with nature.
Relaxing and private
We stayed for two nights after a multi-city road trip and immediately felt relaxed. The property oozes charm as only a place that has been lived in can do. There are so many spaces and places to chill out. The owner puts a lot of effort into personal touches to make you feel comfortable immediately. Our child is in a wheelchair and we appreciated and were surprised by the level of accessibility in the house. We loved it and we'll be back.
I loved working with Verena. She was open and clear and direct and she has a great sense of humor.
I knew that they were on a multi city road trip and needed a spot to rest. It was truly amazing was that the house was left in perfect order. I hope they do come back This way again. I’d love to meet the family. Great people!!
We had a great time at the property! The nature and flowers are beautiful. The cabin is rustic and innovative. We loved the tree house. So relaxing. The sauna structure was very beautiful. No need for a sauna as we went on a very hot weekend. I would love to come back in the fall or winter. The property owner went above and beyond by installing an ac window unit. It was an unusually hot and humid weekend (95-100F) and the ac was very much appreciated. We were also allowed to check in around midnight. All around great experience for our family. We would love to come again.
We gave the property the name Quirky House before we arrived because we knew from the online description that it would be totally different from any previous rental...and it was. Very primitive, but we loved the solitude...no neighbors, just Jays, Cardinals, Orioles and a raccoon. We also loved the Teahouse and the Sauna Room. We especially liked the outdoor shower by the Sauna Room and used it instead of the house shower. Future visitors need to come prepared for the deer flies, which were horrible (but to be expected when you are on a nature preserve). We would like to visit again, but during cold weather when the sauna will be even more appreciated.
Beautiful and serene oasis
We had a great stay over Labor Day weekend. The property is very peaceful and private. We especially loved the “treehouse” and the sauna structure and spending time wandering around the outdoors. Easy access to the Kal-Haven bike trail and smalll inland lakes as well South Haven a bit farrher, all of which we took advantage of. The highlight was hanging out at our own private nature preserve, however. We will be back!
Great experience surrounded by nature and great accommodations!. Highly recommended.
This is a great place to relax and enjoy the beauty of acres of walking paths with wild flowers everywhere, birds that sing and a facility that includes adult treehouse and sauna! Also, conveniently located near beaches, restaurants and boating. We try to find a unique place each July. The six of us all agree that it was the best.
This is the Blueberry capital of the world. Festivals in South Haven, Bloomingdale, Fennville, Kalamazoo and Saugatuck.
