A designer barge with four bedrooms, excellently situated for central Paris

I work from home most of the time, so it's really important to me to be in a pleasant and tranquil environment. About 25 years ago, I discovered the ideal way of achieving this while still having all the advantages of being in the big city is to live on the river. Having made the move to living on a boat, I've never once wanted to go back to living on the land.
Owner purchased this Boat in 2010
Why Owner chose Meudon
Devolu offers us the chance to live somewhere that combines all the pleasures of being in Paris with an extraordinary quality of life. Don't be misguided by the fact that the map shows us as being 'outside' Paris - most people don't realise that Paris, unlike other capital cities, has officially not changed size or shape for a couple of hundred years now and the city's borders have stayed exactly the same as in the 19th century! Meudon, where the boat is moored, is an area about one kilometre outside that 19th century city border, so in most capitals it would be considered pretty central - in London, for instance, we'd be talking about the distance from Notting Hill to Piccadilly Circus. We go everywhere around the city by bicycle and leaving from here I count 20 minutes to be at the Eiffel Tower in 20 minutes - having done the whole journey on bicycle lanes along the riverbank, which is pretty nice! Meudon is an area that has always been popular with artists and well-off Parisians - the sculptor Rodin lived here, and his house can be visited up the hill from where the boat is moored. The main street up the hill from us has a very quiet, villagey feel to it and there are good transport links all around the city.
What makes this Boat unique
On Devolu, you have all the advantages of being near the centre, but in a calm and green environment. And there's really nothing that compares with being on the water - as soon as people step on board a boat they feel as if they've entered a different world, leaving the city behind. It's a feeling I still get even after spending half my life living on boats and something we hear from a lot of the people who rent Devolu over the summer is that they enjoy life on board so much that they definitely don't want to spend all their time visiting sites! In terms of questions, the first thing people ask is 'Does it move a lot?'. The answer is no - it's a very big, heavy boat, so while it rocks a little when something goes by very fast, the motion is mild and not bothersome at all. Also, we don't get disturbed by the tour boats because we're outside their zone - they're a problem for barges further into the centre because they have huge banks of spotlights to light up the riverbank, including the interior of the barges!

Beautiful boat, relaxing holiday.
We had a wonderful two weeks aboard Devolu.
Faultless property; clean, very well-maintained and excellently located. Very much within Paris and close enough to easily get into the city centre on the tram/metro, but peaceful enough to enjoy the surroundings and life on the river. Thankyou!
Would Stay Again
Staying on the Devolu was lovely. Once we were clear about metro and tram and where to find groceries, it is very well located.
Thank you Reuben for providing a lovely place to call ‘home’ while we were in Paris at Easter. Devolu was beautiful and comfortable, spacious, bright and clean. We were a family of five including three generations, so having the space for everyone to enjoy private sleep space and multiple bathroom was a necessity. We found Devolu to be a quiet, peaceful getaway from the city. The tram was a few minutes walk away and connected us to the metro easily. We used the metro app to determine our routes which made navigating the system easy. The grocery was a short walk as well as a post box and Velib bike rental station...all of which we used. G7 taxi also had an app which worked perfectly for our pick up back to the airport. Everything about our trip and our stay on Devolu was amazing! We definitely recommend the unique experience of this houseboat rental and are telling our friends if they’re ever in Paris they must stay here!
Luxurious space in suburb of Paris
Devolu is a lovely houseboat, with plenty of room for all 6 of us. The owners left a Christmas tree for us, and plenty of directions and information about the area. The rooms were comfortable, and the master bedroom and bath were a wonderful retreat at the end of the day. The large kitchen and living room made it easy for us to work together on meals, including Christmas dinner with extended family. Grocery stores were close by, and the houseboat even had a grocery cart on wheels for us. The pictures don’t do justice to the gorgeous decor. We enjoyed being able to gather in the large living room at the end of the day to compare notes. The metro system is close, although it can take up to an hour to get to the sights in central Paris. That was not a problem for most of us, and well worth the trade-off to be able to stay in such a spacious and lovely place. Devolu definitely will be at the top of our list for a return visit the next time we come to Paris.
Just to clarify a point about geographical location in Deborah’s review because it may give some people the wrong impression, Devolu is located in an area called Meudon, bordering Paris’ 15th Arrondissement, with the Bois de Boulogne just across the river. The Eiffel Tower is precisely 6 miles (9.6 km) from it and, given that we go everywhere using the city’s excellent bike lanes, this translates to a little over 20 minutes door to door for us. By public transport it’s usually not much longer. Paris being very much smaller than most capital cities, every possible location in it is within an hour’s travel from us.
Truly an amazing experience!
Truly Luxury...Truly well prepared...Truly eclectic style!
We were a family party of 6. We stayed for 8 nights.
We could have comfortably brought more people, and we could have stayed another week.
We fixed most of our meals in the kitchen which was stocked phenomenally well. The beds are comfortable. The showers had sufficient pressure.
I honestly can't think of anything that we wanted in a place to stay that wasn't available.
I even got to do some fishing from the deck in the morning wile I had my coffee.
TRULY A AUNIQUE AND AMAZING STAY!!!
Beautiful and unique - staying on a houseboat just outside of Paris on the Seine
We absolutely loved staying on this beautifully decorated and spacious barge docked about twenty minutes from Paris on the Seine. After an exhausting day of sightseeing it was lovely to return to this little oasis, sit on the deck and drink wine and watch the boats go by. Beautiful walking/biking path right outside the door and easy access to the tram and metro. Rupert was a fantastic host with lots of helpful and detailed tips for navigating the local area. The boat was fully stocked with everything imaginable in the kitchen and the bedrooms were very spacious and beautifully decorated. We loved everything about this experience- certainly a lot more fun than a typical Paris apartment or hotel-
One small clarification to Linda”s very kind review - when she says ‘20 minutes from Paris” she means from the center, not from the city! The boat is situated just beside the town’s 15th Arrondissement.
Devolu offers two holidays in one - all the pleasures of Paris combined with life on board a truly exceptional houseboat with a mooring spot beside Ile St Germain, a highly sought-after island in the Seine just beside Paris' 15th Arrondissement. This exclusive island offers residents a calm, green stretch of the river just outside the centre of town, meaning everything is easily accessible but you can relax at the end of the day with a glass of wine and barbeque on deck (but none of the tour boats going by that are the bane of life on the Seine otherwise). It is also excellently placed both for heading out to attractions such as the Chateau de Versailles and Giverny, and its immediate vicinity offers a full range of shops, restaurants and other amenities. Parking is plentiful and reasonably priced in the immediate vicinity if you are travelling by car.
