If you're looking for a home from home this cottage is for you.
With an amazing view from the lounge, The Old Wash Kitchen nestles in the heart of the village of Hinchliffe Mill. The cottage is the lower half of a pair of cosy, quirky weavers cottages with original beams, exposed stonework and vaulted ceilings. It's surrounded by rolling green hills, made famous in the comedy series The Last of the Summer Wine, open countryside, overlooking the river Holme, which can be heard babbling by, and the mill pond - a haven to birds and wildlife. You're spoiled for choice for walks and cycle rides!
Located at the foot of Holme Moss the Cote De Holme Moss Grand Depart of the Tour De france 2014 is only metres from your door. There's a fishing spot only a 2 minute walk away and with numerous reservoirs, woodland, moorland and riverside walks, this cottage has all you need for a Yorkshire countryside break!
Not only that, all your needs are at your doorstep with 2 pubs, one with it's own restaurant, a village store, tea room and Holmfirth vineyard which offers vineyard tours and serves breakfast, english wines, afternoon teas and an la carte menu, all within a 5 minute walk and as it's such perfect dog walking country, and the centre of the market town of Holmfirth with an array of amenities, shops, restaurants, cafes, bars, pubs and the live music venue The Picturedrome offer a surprisingly good night out is a short, flat, 1 mile walk away or 3 minute drive away. Most businesses welcome your furry friends too.
There is a small, secluded, stone flagged area to the front with seating for 2 where you can enjoy a morning coffee or a glass of wine (or 3!) in the evening and it's enclosed by a tall metal gate so no need to worry about your (medium/large) furry friend escaping!
There's a selection of DVD's and board games if you prefer a quiet night in and some xbox games to keep the kids happy. There is also a picnic basket, picnic blanket and ice packs available for you to dine out 'al fresco' in the beautiful surrounding countryside.
The centre of Holmfirth is a short, flat 1 mile stroll away or, if you prefer, the bus stop to Holmfirth, outlying villages and Huddersfield to connect with train services, is less than 100 yds away. The local minibus stops on the lane at the rear of the cottage to take you to Holmfirth centre and local villages, and local taxis are competitively priced and readily available.
The close proximity to Holmfirth town centre and it's transport links makes this an ideal base for guests wishing to visit events at the Picturedrome, The Holmfirth Festival of Folk, Holmfirth Food Festival, The Art Festival, Film Festival and other local events.

A fireguard and high chair is available by arrangement.
Please mention if you'd like to make use of the fishing permit.

Quirky Cottage
The Old Wash Kitchen is a lovely Quirky Cottage with exposed beams and Yorkshire stone. It’s an upside down house with the living quarters on the first floor and the bedrooms on the ground. Full of character down to the bathroom which I assume was the coal cellar, you need to be careful of the door which is hobbit sized but the kids will love it. A good size for a small family holiday. Lovely comfortable beds and well equipped kitchen. And above all a gorgeous view from the lounge window of the Yorkshire countryside. The property is in a pretty village in a quiet lane overlooking a stream with enough shops close by for anything you may have forgotten to take.

About the host

Host profile image
I have lived in Holmfirth most of my life and grew up in our family home in the cottage above. This cottage has been in the family too since then but I decided to let it out as a holiday home after I found myself staring out of the windows at the view every time I went up there. It's too beautiful to not share!
I live a couple of miles away in Holmfirth with my husband Darrell and have 3 sons and we aim to make your stay as comfortable and relaxing as possible and look forward to welcoming you to our cosy cottage.

Why they chose this property

The views from the lounge are simply stunning and it's location on the riverside, and it being surrounded by similar, yet all different, Yorkshire stone character cottages make this the perfect place to enjoy the peace, tranquillity, history and beauty of the Holmfirth countryside whilst being in walking distance of the thriving centre of the market town and it's bustling and varied night life with something for everyone.

What makes this property unique

Besides the stunning views the cottage has original beams, exposed stonework and vaulted ceilings in the cellars, one of which houses the bathroom. The bedrooms are located on the ground floor so that the lounge upstairs benefits from the glorious views.
