About Samantha Bollen
I have lived in Skipton for nearly 30 years and love the town and surrounding Dales. Having worked as a nurse and midwife I gave up the profession to raise our 3 boys William, Edward and George. In 2008 after a long planning struggle I opened the Victorian wash house which is situated in our back garden , as an antique shop. Having traded for 9 good years I decided it was time for a change. Recognising that people love to stay in the town I decided to convert the building into a holiday let.
Samantha Bollen purchased this Cottage in 2008
Why Samantha Bollen chose Skipton
The property is unique within the town centre as it is unusually large for a Victorian terrace wash house. It has had a varied social history since 1855 and exudes charm with its flagged floor and trussed roof. I have tried to enhance these features in a quirky traditional way while providing the modern home comforts
What makes this Cottage unique
Its greatest benefit is its location right in the town centre in a mixed friendly terrace. As we live in the main property, we are on hand should you require us.

Great stay at the Wash House
This is a lovely house, ideal for 2 people visiting the area. The house is very clean and comfortable. On arrival there was milk, bread, butter and biscuits waiting for us. The house is very central and a very short walk from the town centre. You do not need a car to explore the area unless you want to go further afield. We caught buses and trains to Leeds, Ilkley and Bradford without problem. There is a small garden at the back which would be lovely in the summertime. A really good point to note is that there is a small step between the bedroom and kitchen. At night a small light comes on in the dark so that you can see where you are going. There are many lovely things to do and see in Skipton especially if you have not been before. There is the canal, castle and woods, market, museum to name but a few ( the museum was shut on this visit as it is being extended) Do not miss out on a Stanforth pork pie traditionally eaten by the canal side, weather permitting. There are also many lovely pubs in the area. We did not meet Samantha during our stay but would like to thank her for our wonderful stay at this house. You only have to read the guest book to see that we were not the only ones to enjoy her house! Thank you
Home away from Home
The experience of staying at the Wash House was even better than I had imagined from the website. The care and beauty that the owner put into this place is something dreams are made of. We could only stay three nights; this would be a great place for a longer stay.
The Wash House
We have never stayed in such a quaint quirky holiday abode it was scrupulously clean and the bed was soooooo comfortable the owners Samantha and John are lovely and helpful it's so near to the hub of things in the town in fact cant think of any cons at all
Special place to stay in Skipton
The Wash House is a lovely place to stay that has been decorated to a high standard and imaginative design.
A cosy place to stay with all the amenities close by.
Highly recommend. Will certainly pay another visit!
Perfect location and good property.
Ideal for two persons. Cosy and comfortable.
Beautiful, quirky and fabulous place to stay
The accommodation itself is marvellous with lovely furnishings and attention to detail. With original features but all modern conveniences it's a perfect place to stay in this delightful town. It's so peaceful but convenient being so close to the High Street with its individual shops and lovely places to eat. The owners were very helpful and it was lovely to receive a welcome pack on arrival. We stayed for a week using it as a centre for a walking holiday and had one of our best holidays ever!
